Synopsis:

Nestled in the sunny fields of Tennessee lies the McDaniel family’s Second Chance Ranch Animal Rescue. Two new arrivals are on their way, but only one is the four-legged kind.

Staff Sergeant Mike Kowalski wants only one thing after he gets home from Iraq: to sleep in a king-sized bed with clean sheets. But first, he has to hand off his fallen commander’s dog, Trooper, to his family without handing off his heart to Sierra…

Sierra McDaniel needs a break. Her family life is crazy, and when she’s not mucking out kennels, she’s slogging through grad school. Sierra certainly doesn’t want another dog, especially one that reminds her of her father. And she definitely doesn’t want to see Mike with that charming smile of his…

But Trooper has a mission of his own. Before too long Mike is moving to the ranch to lend a hand—and hoping for his own second chance with Sierra.

Review:

They always say not to judge a book by its cover, but I did and I am so happy my first impression of Shelter Me was right on! It was super sweet, and it left me with a huge smile on my face. This was my first time reading a book by author Catherine Mann, but it won't be my last. Her writing style is beautiful and her characters are so lovable!

A dog on a mission to save a family. A second chance at love for Mike and Sierra, and a healing journey for the members of the McDaniel family. Shelter Me will warm your heart and make you feel a rainbow of emotions!

This was a great reading escape! It was easy to relate to all the cast of characters that Catherine Mann created. Sierra and Mike gave their love a second chance when Mike returned from Iraq. It was obvious that these two were crazy for each other, but to start a journey together they had to work on what pulled them apart in the first place. They had a great chemistry and I loved how Mike took care of Sierra and her family. He's such an amazing person! Sierra's family life sure was crazy! She had her hands full with her mom, brother and grandfather. The more I read the story, the more I saw her grow. I was cheering for HEA, and I was so happy that the author gave them a sweet one.

I loved how this story was written in multiple POV's. My heart broke for the McDaniel's family. I wanted them to heal and be happy again. The family was falling apart slowly, but Mike and Trooper's arrival was like a breath of fresh air. When I read the Prologue I was shocked to find out it was from the Trooper's POV. I was like ... Wow! Ok, this is original and a bit weird. It was a dog telling me about his mission. I wasn't sure how the rest of the story was going to develop, but I was really happy with the rest of the story. It was unlike anything I have read before, and I really liked it.

The first installment of the Second Chance Ranch Series was awesome! I look forward to Rescue Me, which is the second installment in this series. I really liked Mary Hannah in Shelter Me and I'm curious to meet Detective AJ Parker. If you are looking for something fun, sweet and romantic, Shelter Me is exactly what you need!

Rating:

I give, Shelter Me, by Catherine Mann 3.5 sweet, enjoyable, heartwarming, Trooper-is-on-a-mission stars!

  2. I have read a couple of favorable reviews to this book. It sounds like a promising start to a series. I get on a streak every now and again when I read books with an animal theme, so I will have to give it a try.
