GR's Summary:

An old flame rekindled...

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.

My Thoughts:

I LOVE the Colorado Mountain Series by Kristen Ashley!  Every time I receive one of these books, I get absolutely giddy with excitement.  If you are going through a reading slump, please do yourself a favor and read this series.  There isn't one bad book in the bunch.  Each of these stories have completely pulled me in and hooked me!  Amazing characters, fascinating plots, steamy and sexy love scenes, are all part of what make this series exceptional!

In Jagged, we return to the small Colorado Mountain Town of Gnaw Bone.  Zara has been madly in love with Graham "Ham" Reese for five years.  He's a tall, muscular, bear of a man, who is many years older than her.  Unfortunately, Zara is ready to settle down, get married, and create a family, and Ham isn't one for staying in one place, and laying down roots with one woman.  Zara ends her relationship with Ham and ends up getting married to Greg, a really sweet man, but he isn't the love of her life.

Three years later, Zara divorces Greg, and is in financial straits,  When she see's on the news that Ham nearly got killed by an axe murderer, she calls him.  When he finds out that Zara's divorced, he moves to Gnaw Bone, and is determined to win Zara over, and never let her go again.  He gets a job as a manager at the local bar, moves in to a nice apartment, and inserts himself back in to Zara's life.  He learned from the first time, that letting Zara go was a huge mistake, and he's not about to let her walk away from him again.  However, he needs to earn her trust again, because how can she be sure, he won't up and leave town, like he use to?

Zara was a great character.  She was very strong, independent, and courageous.  She had been abused by her father, and not protected by her mother.  Yet, she built a life for herself, and learned to stand up and not let others bully her.  Ham was a great character as well.  He had been thoroughly messed over by a woman, to the point where he lost hope and trust in the possibility of finding real love.  Zara made him believe again, and when he realized what he had, he became the most loyal, caring, doting, and loving partner towards her.

I enjoyed being reunited with many of the secondary characters that I have gotten to know from previous books, such as Max, Nina, Cotton, Becca, Mindy, Arlene, and I'm sure I'm missing a few.  I also loved getting to know Maybelline, Wanda, Nona, and Zander.

Another thing I must mention is that I love the way Kristen Ashley ends her books!  She always write's a happily ever after, ending with a lot of details.  She always gives us a glimpse or more in to the couple's future, and how life is for them down the road!  I wish more authors did that!!!

My Rating:

I give, Jagged, by Kristen Ashley 4.5 Sexy Bear of a man, showing versus telling, New Beginning, "Happily Ever After" filled Stars!  Jagged was a wonderful addition to an already amazing series!!!  I highly recommend Jagged, as well as the rest of this series!

Excerpt:

I moved to his bed. He was on his side, facing me. He had the blinds open and a hand shoved under his pillow. The covers were to his waist and he had nothing on up top. Not unusual. If it was cold, Ham would put on pajama bottoms but mostly he slept nude.

Even in the dark, he was hot.

I sat on the side of his bed and he jerked awake, sitting up, his hand flashing out and curling, hard and tight, around the back of my neck as I gasped.

He came fully awake. His hand didn’t leave me but it relaxed and he growled sleepily, “Jesus, fuck, you scared the fuckin’ shit outta me.”

And I would. I hadn’t thought about it but the last time someone snuck into his room while he was sleeping, they’d been wielding an ax.

“God, Ham, I’m sorry. I didn’t think,” I whispered, lifting a hand and putting it on his chest, feeling the crisp hair there, wanting to slide my fingers through so badly, my mouth watered with the need.

His hand slid to the side of my neck.

“You okay?” he asked.

“No,” I answered.

“You sick?” he asked.

“No,” I answered.

“What’s up, baby?”

Before I lost my courage, I blew on the dice and let fly.

In other words, I leaned into him, aiming fortunately accurately, and my mouth hit his.

His body stilled.

I touched my tongue to his lips.

His mouth opened.

My tongue slid inside.

Then I was on my back in his bed, his arms around me.

About Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Oh. My. God. Becky!
Look at Her Dress! It's Just so...Eighties!

In my new southern contemporary romance, Facing the Music, my rock star heroine Ivy Hudson returns to her hometown to help them rebuild after a tornado hit the high school. She shows up under the impression that she’s doing a charity concert, but the fundraiser committee has a whole lot more in store. In addition to the concert, they’ve planned a county fair and a dance.

And not just any dance — a second chance retro prom bringing back the glamour and gaudiness that was the 1980s. I’ll admit that I’m a huge fan of the 80s. The music was fun, the hair was big, and the clothes were bright. Not everyone looks good in neon and stone washed jeans, but we rocked it. Over the last few years, I’ve noticed some of the looks coming back in style. I chuckle at the kids who think they’re so original with their hot pink leggings and their fingerless lace gloves.

Since Ivy will be the honorary prom queen (and her ex, the honorary king) it was important that they have totally awesome outfits for the dance. For inspiration, I went to the internet in the hopes of finding the perfect choices. Jackpot.

Here’s the description from the book of Ivy’s thrift shop find –

“Oh my God!” Pepper exclaimed. “I. Have. Found. It!”

Ivy looked up to see what Pepper had uncovered this time. The strapless dress was made out of a metallic blue lamé that shifted between bright blue, midnight blue, and black in the light. It was gathered around the waist with a giant lamé rose at the left hip. It flowed down into two asymmetrical ruffled tiers that were edged in black lace. If that dress was in her size, it was so hers.

Her friend Pepper also finds a dress at the thrift store.

Ivy turned her attention back to the rack. She snatched out a short dress in dark green and held it up. “You need to wear this one,” Ivy said, hoping to change the subject. “It would look good with your red hair.”

Pepper inspected it with a shrug, letting the uncomfortable conversation drop. For now. “What about the huge bows? It has one on each shoulder and one very unfortunately placed near the crotch.”

“Your crotch is not that low.” Ivy passed the dress over to the other side of the rack. “I had issues with bows on the butt. This one is fine. Wear that.”

Even Ivy’s high school rival got in on the 80s fashion fun.

Lydia had on a tight, short, sequined black dress with a peplum that was hot pink on the underside. There was a big pink bow at her hip that would have made her look wide if she wasn’t so petite to begin with. Her hair was teased and sprayed into submission, making a golden halo around her head like a lion’s mane. She looked just like she’d strolled off the set of an eighties music video.

“Lydia. I’m sorry you missed the excitement this morning, but honestly, you wouldn’t have enjoyed yourself very much. We both know how much you hate it when I’m the center of attention instead of you. I think you’re the winner tonight, though. I see you got C. C. DeVille’s stylist to do your hair. No one will give me a second glance with that train wreck ingrained in their minds.”

We can’t forget about the boys, either. Prom King Blake and his brother Grant raided their father’s closet. He never throws anything away, so they found these gems...

“Where did you find that thing?”

“My dad was the best man in a formal wedding in 1984.” Blake held out his arms and did a little spin on Ivy’s front steps. “What do you think?”

“I think I’ve never seen you look like that before.” And she hadn’t. The tuxedo was a pale gray, almost silver. The jacket was cut high in the front, about at the waist, with tails in the back. It had a dark blue cummerbund and matching bow tie. “You even got matching accessories to go with my dress.”

“I rented that part from the formalwear store in Gadsden. I didn’t even know you could still get a cummerbund, but the lady had some in the back.”

“Nice touch.”

Blake had been right about his tuxedo. It was awful. It had black pants and a rust-colored jacket with black buttons and piping along the lapel and pockets. The ivory shirt underneath had ruffles down the center with matching rust thread on the edges.

I’ve shared my character’s embarrassing eighties fashions, but unfortunately, I don’t have any scanned pictures from my own prom I can share. I’ll tell you that one year involved a dress very similar to Pepper’s with teal satin and lace. It was...unfortunate. Instead, I’ll leave you with pictures from the retro 80s birthday party I had a couple years ago.

Excerpt:

Her lips are still curved when she turns her attention back to me. Something about the moment hits me like a punch to the gut. I think for a second that I could stand here and stare at her, just enjoy her smile and her happiness for hours. Days, maybe. But I can’t. We can’t. So, instead, I brush a clump of mud from the end of her nose. “Have fun?”

“I did. Thank you. This was so good for him.”

“And you.”

“And me,” she concedes.

“You can be the real you around me anytime. I won’t tell a soul.”

“So you prefer this?”

“Oh, hell yeah! I don’t need glamorous. Or proper.”

“I’m not proper.”

“You forget that I heard your…expressiveness that day on the side of the road. And it didn’t consist of ‘darn’ or ‘golly gee’. But I haven’t heard anything like that come out of your mouth since then.”

“Ladies aren’t supposed to talk that way, according to Lance.”

“I don’t want a lady. I want a woman. One who knows her own mind. One who wears what she’s comfortable in, one who says what she’s thinking.” I take a step closer. I can’t help myself. Her scent draws me in. Even covered in mud, she smells like sexy sunshine. “I want the woman who kisses like she’s on fire and makes me feel like I’m the only one who can put her out.”

“Sig,” she begins.

I break in to cut her off. I know her objections. And I know how much I don’t want to hear them. “I’m just being honest. I’m not even touching you.”

Her eyes are glued to mine, a damn near irresistible gravity pulling us together. “It’s not like you can anyway. I mean, we’re in public. With my little brother. What could you possibly touch?”

I reach down and smear my hand in mud. With her eyes locked on mine, I reach between us and flatten my palm on her chest, right over her heart. “This. I’d touch this.”

True Evil is Not Always in The Open For All Eyes to See
Oh my SH*T! that was phenomenal Le Carre brings her A game to the table for this one. This is part 5 of an intense series that started with a desperate girl and a man who had it all except the most important thing. Lana and Blake's love has been through so much pain but through it all they have always maintained their passion. I'm a huge fan of this series its always bitter sweet coming to the conclusion of a these two's story.

L-ost, Victoria was casted away her horrendous act has make Blake take action.

O-pen, Lana cannot get over how amazing Blake is their honeymoon is something she will never forget.

V-ictoria, the pain inflicted upon her can't hold a candle to what she has planned as her revenge.

E-ncounter, visiting with her mother will be the beginning of what Victoria plans to set in motion.

S-uspicious, while away a visit to Sorab from Blake's mother will prompt them to find out more about why she is taking an interest.

S-uperior, Blake's mother will never accept Lana in his life after a humiliating display Lana knows never to try again.

A-lone, playing into Victoria's game she will acquire the pawn she needs to set things in motion that will alter everyones lives forever.

C-areful, not sure of what may happen Lana and Blake take extra security measures.

R-evelations, part of Victoria's plan has been executing crushing Blake and Lana is only the beginning.

I-ncriminating, Blake knows who is behind his and Lana's torture he will do what it takes to restore their happiness.

F-ierce, Lana will not go down without a fight she is willing to give up everything in order to have what was taken from her back.

I-llusion, everything Blake knew to be true was false walking away is something he welcomes.

C-onfrontation, coming to terms with everything has been easier than expected. Blake will never be fully rid of his past he now knows where the power was hidden all these years.

E-ntrust, Lana saved Blake from the darkness he vows to keep Sorab safe and away from the evil that will always loom over their lives waiting for a chance to strike.

Omg so I've spoken before about Ms. Le Carre taking us through twists and turns, Love's Sacrifice is no different. So many shocking truths are revealed that they will have your jaw hitting the floor. I despise spoilers so I won't go into it just know that things aren't as they seem. The people we've met have motives that aren't revealed until this installment. The ending was perfect! There were a few shocking things that happened and evil's were dealt with accordingly. The most powerful of serpents makes a promise to Blake and he vows to make sure it never happens. Finally achieving the peace he has longed for will be the beginning of the rest of his and Lana's life. So I know this is the conclusion of Lana and Blake but the ending was left a bit open. Fast forward through time and I can totally see something being written about Sorab. This was a wonderful read I cannot recommend this series enough! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

My Fav’s

Lana & Blake
These two love each other fiercely there is nothing they wouldn’t do for each other. My heart broke for them when they were crushed by Victoria but they figured out a way to remain together through the pain and the finale was magnificent. This power couple will stay with me and the obstacles they've overcome. Lana & Blake have both suffered a great deal of loss in their lives seeing them together and the light they shine was epic!

My Rating
4.5 Honeymoon, Mother in Law, Tea, Servants, Brooch, Cell Phone, Opera, Test Results, Brother, Sister, Mother, Serpent, Always Watching, Limo, Good vs Evil Love Filled Stars! I'm so sad to see these characters go but their happiness was amazing to read about! I absolutely recommend it.

Georgia Le Carre lives in England, in an old 19th century romantic cottage surrounded by a magical garden filled with fruit and walnut trees.
