Kiss My Cupcake
By: Helena Hunting
Release Date: August 11, 2020
Publisher: Forever Romance

Book Summary:
As two neighborhood shop owners battle for business, they prove opposites attract in this outrageously funny romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of Meet Cute.

Blaire Calloway has planned every Instagram-worthy moment of her cupcake and cocktails shop launch down to the tiniest detail. What she didn't plan on? Ronan Knight and his old-school sports bar next door opening on the very same day. He may be super swoony, but Blaire hasn't spent years obsessing over buttercream and bourbon to have him ruin her chance at success.

From axe throwing (his place) to frosting contests (hers), Blaire and Ronan are constantly trying to one-up each other in a battle to win new customers. But with every clash, there's also an undeniable chemistry. When an even bigger threat to their business comes to town, they're forced to call a temporary time-out on their own war and work together. And the more time Blaire spends getting to know the real Ronan, the more she wonders if it's possible to have her cupcake and eat it too.

Why I'm Eagerly Waiting:

I'm a fan of the enemies to lovers trope, and this sounds like a cute and fun story.  I've enjoyed books by Helena Hunting, and I really like this book cover as well.

Book Summary:

A laugh-out-loud romantic comedy debut about first impressions, second chances, and finding the love of your life in the most unexpected way.

Liya Thakkar is a successful biochemical engineer, takeout enthusiast, and happily single woman. The moment she realizes her parents' latest dinner party is a setup with the man they want her to marry, she's out the back door in a flash. Imagine her surprise when the same guy shows up at her office a week later -- the new lawyer hired to save her struggling company. What's not surprising: he's not too thrilled to see her either after that humiliating fiasco.

Jay Shah looks good on paper...and off. Especially if you like that whole gorgeous, charming lawyer-in-a-good-suit thing. He's also arrogant and infuriating. As their witty office banter turns into late night chats, Liya starts to think he might be the one man who truly accepts her. But falling for each other means exposing their painful pasts. Will Liya keep running, or will she finally give love a real chance?

My Thoughts:

I was really excited to begin reading, The Trouble with Hating You.  I love reading stories where I can learn about another culture.  This story was an easy read, and caught my attention right from the start.  I loved being immersed in the Indian culture.  I could easily visualize the exotic and extravagant food, colorful clothing, and traditional customs, as I was transported in to Liya and Jay's world.

One of my favorite book tropes is enemies to lovers.  Liya Thakkar is extremely close to her passive, submissive, and quiet mother, but cannot go a few minutes without arguing with her domineering, misogynistic, judgemental, callous, and cold father.  Nothing Liya does is good enough for him.  She is an independent and modern woman.  Liya has a masters degree in bioengineering, and just got promoted into management, yet her father continues to look down on her.

Her parents have been trying to match her up with a man, because they want her to settle down, get married, have children, and become a traditional Indian wife.  Even though Liya has repeatedly turned them down, they won't take "no" for an answer.  So when Liya's parents invite her to come eat dinner with them, she isn't too surprised that they invited a man and his mother to meet her, with the intention of getting to know each other, which could possibly lead to marriage.  Liya is angry, and runs out; knocking over Jay, a handsome lawyer, who is there just to please his mother.

A short while later Liya learns that Jay, will be working to represent her company; as they have a ton of lawsuits that they are currently dealing with.  Pretty soon Jay is turning up everywhere, and as much as Liya is determined to dislike him, he is such a warm, caring, and stand up man, that she finds herself falling for him.  Will Jay be able to tear down Liya's sky high walls?  Will Liya learn that you can be an independent and strong woman, and have the love of a good man too?

I loved how easily the writing in this story flowed.  It truly was effortless.  The author did a great job of weaving a story that held my attention.  Where I struggled most was with the way Liya treated Jay.  With enemies to lovers stories, you expect a certain amount of animosity.  However, I kept waiting for things to shift between Liya and Jay, and felt frustrated with how long it took for Liya to realize how wonderful Jay was.  It got to the point where I was questioning why
Jay would put up with her continued negativity, and rude treatment.

I loved Jay, his family, and Liya's close group of girl friends.  This secondary cast of characters came to life for me, and each of them was extremely likeable.  Liya's parents each left a lot to be desired.  Her father was horrible, and I kept waiting for her mother to stand up to him; if not for how he treated her, at least for how he treated their daughter.

Liya and Jay both had tragic events in their pasts that shaped them, and my heart hurt for what they had endured.  I was very satisfied with the ending, and am looking forward to trying out more books by this author.

Blacklisted
Loveless Texas #3
By: Jay Crownover
Publisher: Forever Romance
Release Date: October 27, 2020

Book Summary:

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series comes an irresistible and suspenseful romance between a doctor who plays by the rules and the outlaw who breaks them in order to protect her.

Dr. Presley Baskin has always lived a quiet, calm life. Unfortunately, nothing about her life in Loveless, Texas---especially not the wild, rowdy, and impossibly close-knit Lawton family who've claimed her---is quiet or calm. Which is how loner Presley finds herself roped into patching up local bad boy Shot Caldwell against her better judgment. Presley wants nothing to do with the dangerous, brooding leader of the local outlaw motorcycle club. But when someone starts stalking her, Shot is the only person she trusts to help. Plus he owes her one...

Palmer 'Shot' Caldwell has always known his life isn't made for relationships. At least until shy, secretive, Presley reluctantly pulled a bullet out of him. He's oddly protective of the pretty doctor, so when she comes to him for help, hard-hearted Shot suddenly realizes there's nothing he wouldn't do to keep her safe.

Why I'm Eagerly Waiting:

I read Unforgiven and really enjoyed it.  One of my favorite characters was Palmer "Shot" Caldwell.  I want to see how his love story plays out with the prim and proper Dr. Presley Baskin. Now that we know who the villain is, I'm excited for more suspense, thrills, and danger!

Book Review: All I Ask by Corinne Michaels

All I Ask

Fans of Christina Lauren, Colleen Hoover, and Jill Santopolo will love this breathtaking story about first love, second chances, and starting over from New York Times bestselling author Corinne Michaels.

Teagan Berkeley is trying her best. A single mom raising a precocious teen, she may have given up on her dreams, but she's accepted her life in her small beachside hometown. Now the one person who abandoned her when she needed him the most has returned, bringing back memories of what might have been.

Derek Hartz arrives in town with a teenage daughter-and he's full of guilt over his failed marriage and the way he ended his friendship with Teagan. He's determined to set things right with her, but first he needs to gain her trust, something he's not convinced he deserves.

As Teagan and Derek open up to each other-and confess their deepest secrets-it's impossible for them to deny what's always been between them. But just when their happily ever after is within reach, their complicated history surfaces again and threatens to keep them apart. Forever.

My Thoughts:

All I Ask by Corinne Michaels, is the kind of book that you want to get cozy and snuggle with.  It was such a romantic read, and packed an emotional punch that hit me straight in the heart.  I adored this story, and didn't want to put it down.  Written beautifully and seamlessly, this is a story I highly recommend; if you're a fan of the friends to lovers trope, and soul stirring prose.

We get the story of Teagan "Tea" Berkeley and Derek Hartz told from their dual perspectives in both the present, and flashbacks of the past.  These two were best friends in high school and college, although they weren't huge fans of one another at first. Tea was the stereotypical popular cheerleader who hung out with the mean girls on campus.  Derek kept to himself, had a huge passion for animals, and was a sensitive, selfless, and altruistic individual.

Tea and Derek were each other's "person." They shared everything together, connected on the deepest of levels and fell madly in love with one another.  However, fear, insecurity, and unfortunate decision making lead to the demise of their friendship.

Now several years later, both are single parents to teenage daughters and living a lonely life without love.  Derek, who is a veterinarian, has returned to town to help his father who is suffering from dementia, with his vet business.  Tea and Derek share a lot of painful emotions in regards to one another, but never stopped loving each other.  They are determined to avoid one another in town, but their daughters mutual altercations at school, will bring them back in to each others lives...

I can't sing this story enough praise!  I swooned, I sighed, and my heart hurt for all that Tea and Derek had been through; as well as losing their soulmate, when they lost each other.  All I Ask, also delivered hope, giddiness, and the excitement of that powerful and all consuming love that songs are and stories are created about! The passion and intimacy these two shared was a spark that turned in to an all consuming, blazing inferno; and as a reader, I was grateful and excited to be right smack dab in the middle of it all.

This book played out like a movie in my head, and I pictured Derek as Patrick Dempsey and Tea as a young Kim Bassinger.  If you need an escape that will immediately reel you in, hook you, and never let go, please pick up, All I Ask.

Book Review: Unforgiven (Loveless Texas #2) by Jay Crownover

Unforgiven

Book Summary:

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series comes an irresistible and suspenseful romance between a tough Texas Ranger and his first love--a woman in danger who insists she doesn't need his protection.

Hill Gamble is a model lawman: cool and collected, with a confident swagger to boot. Too bad all that Texas charm hasn't gotten him anywhere in his personal life, especially since the only girl he ever loved has always been off-limits.

But then Hill is assigned to investigate her father's mysterious death, and he's forced back to the town--and the woman--he left behind.

When Hill left Loveless, he broke Kody Lawton's already battered heart. And now that he's working on her father's case, avoiding him is impossible. She can handle Hill and her unwanted feelings--until he puts his life on the line to protect her. Suddenly, Kody realizes that Hill could be taken away from her...for good.

Includes the bonus novella Cowboy to the Rescue by A.J. Pine!

My Thoughts:

Unforgiven is the first book that I've read in the Loveless Texas Series.  It has a heartbreaking and spellbinding prologue that reels you in to Hill Gamble and Kody Lawton's story.

These two have quite the past!  Kody's first love was Hill's younger brother, Aaron, who was a troubled soul with severe mental health problems. Kody had been drawn to Hill first, but she dismissed the idea of them together, because Kody and Aaron, who started out as best friends, were a lot more alike.

Hill moved to get away from his dysfunctional family, but as he found himself getting closer to, and falling in love with Kody, he completely removed himself from her and his brother.  When tragedy struck, Kody never forgave Hill for what she construed as his abandonment of her and Aaron.

Now many years later, Hill is a Texas Ranger, and must deliver horrible news to the Lawton's; their father has been murdered.  Kody has always struggled with her emotions, and preferred to focus on her anger so that she can survive the tragedies that have occurred in her life.  However, with Hill in close proximity, and danger escalating as her father's killer is on the loose, walls will come down, and feelings will be revealed.  Will this be Kody and Hill's chance to have the love that they've secretly longed for from each other, or will the killer get to one of them first?

I loved Kody's sassy, spitfire, impulsive, and independent personality!  She was tough on the outside, but had a tender heart.  Hill was patient, kind, sexy, loyal, and gave everyone and everything his best.  I enjoyed getting both characters points of view.  I thought Kody was unfair to Hill at the beginning of the story, and it made me angry, but I understood it was a coping and defense mechanism.

The first half of the story was a bit slow, because both characters were in their heads a lot, and not a whole lot was happening.  The second half of the story took off, as the suspense ramped up, and more began happening between Kody and Hill, as well as with the killer.

I enjoyed Kody's brothers Case and Crew, as well as their significant others, and would like to go back and read their stories.  This book can easily be read as a standalone, but I would love to learn more about the secondary characters, as well as the Lawton's upbringing.  The secondary character that shone through and really sparked my interest was MC Club President, "Shot," and I can't wait to get his story.  He's my favorite type of alpha bad boy, and it would be nice to see him fall in love and get his happily ever after.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, with a sexy and swoon-worthy cowboy, a fun and sassy female lead, as well as a lovable cast of secondary characters, check out Unforgiven!

Passion and Fire Collide

I was hoping this book would come!! I knew there was more to Sofie and I knew Ryan could deliver. I have been following Kennedy Ryan’s books for a very long while and I can honestly say the Bennett series has been my favorite. The closing of a beloved series is always bitter sweet because you want to know what happens to everyone but it’s sad because it means the end. Ryan’s books always play out in my head like 4K ultra quality. She manages to take word and create crisp clear images in her readers mind but the magic doesn’t stop there…Ryan adds an element of emotion that bleeds through the pages.

The Story, we are following Sofie grade A jerky beautiful butt. Isn’t funny though often times the meanest people are the ones who need a hug the most? Sofie grew up with Walsh(My Favorite!) but her parents warped and manipulated her into believing her only task in life was to marry and continue the Bennett empire. King and Queen at the top but something happens to her that shakes her foundation and she takes on a different path. Fast forward to present day even though her family lacks kindness she tries to be dutiful. Meeting Trevor was unexpected but very welcome not shy Sofie takes to task. Suddenly the past crashes into her life and she ones again is thrown off kilter. Intrigued by something that he sees Trevor begins to unravel the puzzle that is Sofie Baston. I loved the chase and development of this installment I cannot say I’m surprised though because this is what I’ve come to expect from this all star author.

The Characters, as I mentioned before Sofie has a difficult situation growing up. Several events from her past have been catalysts that resulted in the person she became. The reader gets to see a very special part of Sofie that the rest of the world does not. She has always been labeled and regardless of the negativity she made her own way and succeeded. Trevor was swoon worthy! Giving and wanting to change the world he meshed well with Walsh and reminded me quite a bit of him as well. Trevor quite successful in his own right has always had a gift to see what a person is really about pretty quickly. He is a hard charger and does not give up easily. Every quality he posses is one Sofie truly needed in a person. We see some cameo’s from our favorite characters of books past. Some pretty great and some not so much but understandable given the situation.

The End, beautiful and sweet the epilogue was perfect and a culmination of all the things I wanted for Sofie and Trevor. I loved the HEA. Some things remained difficult but a difficult life doesn’t transform to perfection with a snap of the fingers. Trevor was perfect for Sofie and the growth he brought out of her was wonderful to see. As I mentioned earlier her past is full of pain and she let that pain rule and define her. Once she found her fire and confronted the monsters of the past she was able to soar above everything and everyone. I loved getting to know Sofie’s inner workings and seeing her fight and figure everything out was fabulous. Until I’m Yours can be read as a standalone but seriously do yourself a wonderful service! Pick up these books now.

My Rating

4.5 These books have been wonderful get away reads chalk full of love and romance that will stay with you filled stars!
