Excerpt:

I beeped the locks and had a hand to the handle when I heard, “Lookin’ for me?”

When that deep, coarse voice came at me through the dark, my body became paralyzed, my eyes glued to my hand on the handle.

Then it kept coming at me.

“Bitch, followed you the last forty-five minutes. Reb got in touch. Told me you hit Scruff’s.” On the next, the voice was nearer. “You’re lookin’ for me. So tell me what the fuck you want so you can quit lookin’ and I can quit lookin’ at you.”

Slowly, I turned, my head going back automatically because I felt him close and I knew what close to Logan meant.

I was five-seven.

He was six-one.

He towered over me, or at least that’s what it always felt like because he wasn’t only tall, he was also a big guy with a big presence.

And right then, it felt like that, especially since his big presence was an angry one.

His face was in shadows, I could barely see it.

But I could feel him.

And I could smell him.

God, I could smell him.

He didn’t wear cologne or aftershave. His scent was all his. And I remembered lying in our bed holding his pillow to me, my face shoved into the sheets, taking him in after I’d made him walk away.

His scent hadn’t changed. Not even a nuance.

Smelling it without warning felt like walking unsuspecting into the street and having a truck slam into you. And that feeling was so strong it was a wonder my body didn’t go careening through the trucks and bikes, slamming into them, shattering every bone.

He moved forward so he was in my space, the smell strengthened and my body tightened to guard against it.

“Woman, after all this time, whatever shit you gotta hand me, fuckin’ do it,” he ordered irately. “You got two seconds to spit it the fuck out. You don’t, you won’t get another chance, and you know I’ll make it that way. So this is your only shot. Take it or get in your fuckin’ car and get your ass outta my world.”

I stared into the shadows of his face, wishing with everything that I could see it.

Apparently, I did this for two seconds because Logan bit out, “Right. See nothin’s changed. Weak. Now get your ass . . .” he dipped his face to mine, “gone.”

And when he did, I got up on my toes and kissed him.

It was totally crazy.

But I also totally couldn’t help it.

He smelled so fucking good.

And he was Logan.

Close. Right there. His face in mine.

He jerked away, muttering a disgusted, “What the fuck?”

But the words or their tone didn’t penetrate.

I smelled him and I’d had a taste. I was gone.

I lifted both hands to either side of his head, yanked him down to me, and went back in, going for it, giving it my all. Even when his fingers clenched painfully into my hips pushing them back to set me away, I held on tighter and shoved my tongue between his lips.

It touched his, just that, just a touch, and then I cried out into his mouth when I found my back slammed into my SUV.

But it wasn’t his way to get me to let him go.

No.

His head slanted and he forced my tongue out of his mouth when his invaded mine.

And that was when I was gone.

I was already gone but right then there was nothing to me.

Nothing at all.

Except my hands on Logan’s head, his body pressing mine into my car, his smell all around us, his tongue plundering my mouth, all this exploding fire everywhere.

He drove a hand into my hair, twisting it, the pain bristling over my scalp and I cried out into his mouth again even as I arched deeper, pressed closer, willing, like it had always been, to give it all because he was Logan, he got it all.

But also because I knew I’d get it back a hundredfold.

He swayed us forward so his other arm could lock across my back and he kept at my mouth as I rolled way up on my toes, pushing deep, wrapping my arms around his neck, consumed by the kiss and not giving that first fuck.

I was ready to ride it out.

No, I needed to ride it out.

No matter where it went.

He broke away and that was when my hand went into his hair, fisting tight in protest.

“That what you want?” he growled, his voice lower, the abrasion physical, and I shivered with delight.

I wasn’t entirely certain of the question but I answered a breathy, “Yes.”

“That’s what you want,” he repeated, a statement this time, seeking confirmation.

“Yes, Logan.”

He let me go but took my hand, his skin rough against my fingers. The feel of it back after all these years washed through me and I fancied I remembered every time, in quick succession, from the first night we met to the night before I broke it off when he’d taken my hand and guided me somewhere.

Lost in it like I’d always been lost in it, I followed blindly.

Attached to Logan, I’d go anywhere.

Even if we were walking through fire.

My Thoughts:

Ms. Ashley always gives me just what I need; an amazing story that I can escape and get lost in.  I love motorcycle romance.  However, there are only two authors I've read that deliver the best in this sub-genre time and time again; Joanna Wylde and Kristen Ashley.  Ms. Ashley's books are some of the longest books I've read.  Yet, they fly by because they are stories that completely hook me and make me fall in love!

In Walk Through Fire, we get Logan "High" Judd and Millie Cross's love story.  The story alternate's between the present time, and twenty years ago when Logan and Millie first met and fell in love.  These two were soulmates from the very beginning.  They had passion, and an unbelievably unique emotional connection.  Yet, Millie broke things off.  Logan was devestated, and this loss hardened him.  Eventually, he entered a loveless marriage, because he got a woman pregnant, and they went on to have another child.  Now, Logan is divorced, amicable with his ex-wife, and his daughter's Cleo and Zadie are the lights of his life.  He is loyal to the Chaos MC Club, and is a very unhappy man.

To outsiders looking in, Millie appears to have everything.  She has her own successful business as an event planner, a beautiful house, and the nicest of material items.  Millie has loyal and close friends, as well as an older sister who she loves dearly, and a niece and nephew that she adores.  Unfortunately, Millie is very lonely.  When she goes to Chipotle, she see's Logan, and still has strong feelings for him.  She leaves making sure he doesn't see her.  After she regroups Millie has a plan to give Logan closure, and tell him the truth about why she left him.

Unfortunately, nothing goes according to Millie's plan.  Logan treat's her horribly, and they end up having heated revenge sex.  After the truth of why Millie left comes out, Logan decides that he needs a second chance with the only woman he's ever loved.  Yet, there are many obstacles in the way.  A crazy lunatic is out to hurt the Chaos MC, and Logan's youngest daughter, Zadie, does not want Millie in her father's life.

Walk Through Fire was an excellent second chance at love story.  It touched me deeply.  I cried, laughed, smiled, and swooned.  What Millie and Logan shared was what romance lovers dream about.  This is a story that I will never forget.  Ms. Ashley's characters were very real to me.  Their unique personalities made me feel like I knew them on a personal level.  I am highly anticipating the next story in this series.  Ms. Ashley has a way of making each of these stories fresh, unique, and addictive.  I love the plot twists and surprises that I get to encounter whenever reading one of her stories.  If you haven't read a Kristen Ashley book before, you are missing out.
My Rating:

I give, Walk Through Fire, by Kristen Ashley, 5 Breathtaking, Deeply Romantic, Sexy, and Heartfelt stars!  If you enjoy MC Club stories, then you must read the Chaos series!

About the Author:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Book Review : Pucked Up (Pucked, #2) by Helena Hunting

GR's Summary:

Miller “Buck” Butterson has been banging his way through life ever since a puck to the face fixed his messed up front teeth, and he was drafted into the NHL during his first year of college. After five years of deflecting goals on the ice and scoring them with puck bunnies across the Continental US and parts of Canada, Miller is ready for a girlfriend. A real girlfriend of the non-bunny variety. One he takes on dates and doesn’t jump into bed with after five seconds of conversation.

Miller thinks he’s found that woman in his teammate’s sister. Except, unlike Alex Waters, center, team captain and all round nice guy—who happens to be dating his step-sister—Miller’s manwhore reputation is well earned, and not blown out of proportion by the media. Beyond that minor detail, Miller doesn’t know the first thing about having a girlfriend. But he’s determined to make it happen.

What he doesn’t take into account is the amount of time and effort relationships require, or that constantly letting bunnies take selfies with him to post all over social media isn’t going to win him any points in the boyfriend department. Miller learns—not so quickly—that if he wants to make Sunshine “Sunny” Waters fall for him, he going to have to do a whole lot more than show her his stick skills in the bedroom.

Pucked Series on Goodreads:

Our Review of Pucked HERE

Lindy's Thoughts:

The Pucked series has been a lot of fun.  The author uses humor, and relatable and endearing characters to tell great love stories.  In Pucked, we got Alex Waters and Violet "Vi" Hall's story.  In Pucked Up, we get Alex's little sister, Sunshine "Sunny" Waters, and Vi's half-brother, Miller "Buck" Butterson's story.

Buck is known for being the ultimate playboy.  He has a list of "honeys" to call on whenever the urge strikes him, and there are never a shortage of "Puck Bunnies" throwing themselves at him.  Buck originally got to know Sunny, when he was angry that Alex was hooking up with his sister.  He thought turn around would be fair play.  However, something happened when Buck met Sunny.  She didn't throw herself all over him, and proved to have self-respect, a good heart, and the ability to intrigue him.

Buck decides that he is serious about Sunny, and wants to make her his girlfriend.  However, the way the media portrays Buck, and how manipulative puck bunnies twist things around on social media, proves to continuously challenge Buck and Sunny's relationship.  Added to this challenge is the fact that Alex (Sunny's brother) hates Buck, Lily (Sunny's best friend) doesn't trust him, and Sunny's ex-boyfriend is trying to push himself back in to her life.  Is Buck and Sunny's relationship doomed to fail?

Helena Hunting has a unique style of writing.  I enjoy her ribald sense of humor, and was excited to dive in to Pucked Up.  I loved getting to know Buck and all of his complex layers.  He had a difficult childhood, due to his mother's passing at a young age, being brought up by a single father, and trying to navigate his schoolwork while suffering from Dyslexia.  Buck has insecurities about his intelligence, and my heart went out to him.  He had such a big heart, but didn't boast or make other's aware of all that he did for charity.

Sunny was a sweet girl.  She came across as very young, innocent, and a bit naive.  I was frustrated for Buck and the fact that Sunny didn't trust him.  However, the truth of the matter was that with the way things were portrayed on social media, and having her best friend and brother constantly talking negatively about Buck, I could see where she was coming from.

Pucked Up was slow-moving for me in the first half, and went really fast, in the second half.  I enjoyed Buck and Sunny's story, and found myself grinning, and cackling throughout the story.  I really would love to read a story about Lily (Sunny's best friend) and Randy (Buck's best friend.)  These two were very entertaining, and in this story we get a preview of the fireworks between them.

My Rating:

I give, Pucked Up, by Helena Hunting, 3.5 Outrageously Comical, Bawdy, Sexy, and Sweet Cookie Eating, Yeti Filled Stars!  If you enjoy risqué humor, fun authentic characters, and an amusing plot, check out this series!

Mikki's Review:

When I found out that Pucked Up was going to be about Sunny and Buck, I was very excited! I really liked Buck in Pucked and I could not wait to see in what kind of hilarious trouble he was going to get himself to.

In Pucked Up we follow Sunshine ''Sunny'' Walters and Miller ''Buck'' Butterson.  Sunny is Alex's young sister and Buck is Vi's half brother. If you have not read Vi and Alex's story I highly recommend Pucked! When Buck meets Sunny, he knows he has found the woman he's been looking for. He's tired of the puck bunny scene and wants a woman he can talk to and have an amazing time with. Sunny loves everything about Buck, except for when he gets in trouble on social media. She has tried to look pass it, but the trouble keeps on pilling up and making her reconsider a serious relationship with Buck. Will Buck be ready to change his wild lifestyle to keep Sunny by his side?

I really enjoyed Pucked Up. It was a fun and sweet story with a good dose of sexiness. When I read Pucked, I had no difficulty connecting with Alex and Vi. Their chemistry was hot and I was cheering for them from beginning to end. With Pucked Up, it was a different story. Even though I really enjoyed Sunny and Buck's story, I had a difficult connecting with Sunny. There was a lot of drama because of Buck's media appearances. I understand why Sunny had a difficult time trusting Buck, but my heart broke for him when she kept on pushing him away. He really was working hard to keep her at his side.  I wish she would had made her own decisions in many occasions instead of listening to her brother and her best friend. They are not Buck's biggest fans and it was obvious.

Buck was a really great surprise. His POV was amazing and I loved the conversations he had with Vi. That brought a big smile on my face and you could feel the love he had for her. Even if she's always busting his chops ... lol!! She was great and her sister role was in full effect when it came to healing Buck's broken heart. Buck's friends were comical and always by his side. I'm not sure who's getting a book next, but I can't wait to read it! I highly recommend this series.

My Rating:

I give Pucked Up, by Helena Hunting, 3.5 fun, sexy, entertaining stars!

Book Summary:

I wanted to jump.

He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

Excerpt:

“You’re overdoing it, Lev. I know this job isn’t exactly nine-to-five, but it’s not twenty-four-seven, either. You have to stop being Levee Williams all the time and just be you.”

“I know,” I responded.

I didn’t though. I felt like a robot parading around in a lost woman’s body.

Smile.

Pose.

Turn.

Toss in the occasional song.

Repeat.

What little time I did manage to carve out for myself was spent at various children’s hospitals across the country.

Smile.

Pose.

Turn.

Watch a child die.

Repeat.

With every day that passed, the smile became less and less genuine, the pose more and more forced, and the turn took me further and further away from who I really was.

My career was soaring while, personally, I was plummeting. Every single day felt like a terrifying free fall in no particular direction. I was stuck in the middle with no way up—or down.

“You remember that girl, right?” Henry asked, tucking a hair behind my ear.

I nodded.

I did remember her. She was fun and carefree. She loved going out and dancing at nightclubs until the very last song played. She slept until noon if she could. Then, fueled by coffee alone, she’d spend the day with a guitar strapped around her neck and a notepad at her side. She had a huge heart, but she knew her limitations.

Oh, I remembered that girl. I just couldn’t figure out how to get back to her.

Review:

Oh.my.world.

The Fall Up, by Aly Martinez, was such a powerful, beautiful and romantic reading journey. I am a big fan of Aly Martinez and every single one of her books has a special place in my heart. Her stories are unique and her characters are intoxicating!!!  From the moment I saw the stunning cover of this book, I was in love. After I read the blurb, I knew that this was going to be an emotional and unforgettable story.

Two strangers.
One bridge.
An all-consuming love story that will leave you breathless.

Levee Williams has it all, but dreams about losing it all. The reason behind her visits to the bridge are still unclear to Levee. She is looking for that girl that she used to be and to be able to let go of the past. Sam Rivers is tired of the FINE in his life. He's looking for something GREAT. When he meets Levee Williams, he knows that she's the great that has been missing in his life. As days go by, their attraction grows and sparks fly. Sam will do whatever it takes to save Levee from her personal demons, but will she be able to let go and be ready to embark on a new journey with Sam?

Gah!!!!!! I absolutely fell in love with Levee and Sam! They are two of the most amazing and unique characters that I have ever read about. If you are a looking for a romance book that delivers all the feels, this book needs to be on your TBR list! You will laugh, swoon and cry with these amazing characters while reading their beautiful love story. They are such a fantastic couple! Be ready for a swoon fest. Be still my beating heart!!! There is a new prince charming in romance town and his name is Tattooed Stalker ... Teehee!

I was mesmerized by Levee and Sam from the very first chapter. Their chemistry is instant and the banter between them is simply irresistible! You will fall in love with Levee and Sam just like I did. They are both strong and lovable characters that complement each other to perfection. Both Levee and Sam are standing near that bridge for a reason. It broke my heart to learn the reasons behind those visits to the bridge. They both have demons to fight and with each other's help, they find the peace of mind they both have been looking for.

I don't want to say much more about their story because you need to read and FEEL every single moment of their journey. If you have not read a book by Aly Martinez yet, you are seriously missing out!!! This is the perfect book to get you hooked and it's a standalone. I have the biggest smile on my face. I can't wait to get my hands on my paperback copy of The Fall Up and fall in love all over again with Levee and Sam.

Rating:

I give The Fall Up, by Aly Martinez, 5 spectacular, romantic, swoony, heart-melting, page-turning, unforgettable stars!
