My Thoughts:

Mine, by Katy Evans, was passionate, erotic, intense, sexual, and utterly consuming!  Wow!  I just loved the continuation of Remy and Brooke's addictive, raw, powerful, and passionate love story.  I was a little worried that this sequel would not be able to live up to Real.  I am relieved and excited to say, that it was an amazing sequel that I devoured in record time.  I just can't get enough of Remy.  Talk about a hot, powerful, sexual, and swoon-worthy alpha male!  Remy beautifully represents all of the reasons why Alpha Males are such a turn on!

Mine was told from Brooke's point of view, and continues right were Real left off.  Remy and Brooke are back together, and these two are hotter and heavier  than ever! However, being back together, they are facing many challenges.  For one, Remy is insecure that Brooke will leave him again, and Brooke is insecure that she is not enough for Remy.  She gets jealous of all his groupies constantly throwing themselves at him.  Remy is dedicated and determined to make his dream come true, of being the underground Fighting Champion.  He is working out harder then ever, eating right, and treating his body well.  Brooke is right beside him every day, cheering him on, and encouraging him.  These two have the most intense, passionate, erotic, and steamy love scenes.  Ms. Evans is the mistress of seduction when it comes to the written word.

Unfortunately, Scorpion is up to no good again, and trying to get into Remy's head.  Remy hires body guards to protect Brooke, and is out for blood when it comes to this psychotic fighter.  On top of that, unforeseen circumstances force Remy and Brooke to be apart.  Broke is a mess because she can't stand to be without Remy.  She feels insecure and worries a lot about Remy being without her.  Remy misses Brooke so much, and text messaging, skyping, and phone sex just seem to torture him more.  Remy and Brooke get tested time and time again.  These two couldn't seem to catch a break!  Whether it was other people (like Scorpian or Remy's parents causing problems,) dealing with Remy's bi-polarism, false assumptions, learning how to trust one another, trying to eliminate self-doubt and insecurity, or just the everyday reality's of life. However, these trials made Brooke and Remy's love for one another stronger.  There relationship solidified, and Remy got to learn what unconditional love felt like.  He also learned self worth, and that he deserved someone as amazing as Brooke, and the happiness that being with her gave him.

Mine was fresh and exciting the whole way through.  There were many plot twists that kept the story alive, and had me hooked!. It was wonderful to have all the fun and interesting secondary characters from Real, return in Mine.  We get Coach Lupe, Pete, Riley, Diane (Remy's chef and surrogate mother), Melanie (Brooke's best friend), Nora (Brooke's sister), and even Brooke's good friend's Kyle, and Pandora.  We also get to know Brooke's parents, and meet a new minor character, Jo, one of Brooke's bodyguards.  I loved how Remy and Brooke created their own family with the friends and loyal people they surrounded themselves with.  The ending of this story was absolutely beautiful and heartfelt.  I swooned, sighed, and my heart completely melted.  It was absolutely perfect, and I think fans of the Real Series will love it!

My Rating:

Riiiiiiiiiptide for the Win, and Mine for the knockout!!!  5 Sexy-Alpha-Male, Intense, Protective, Loyal, Sexually-Erotic, Madly-in-Love Stars!  Trust me ladies, you want more Remy!  Mine was just as amazing as Real was!  You will not be disappointed!  Mine will just wet your appetite for even more Remy!  Run, don't walk, to the nearest bookstore to get this little gem!  Once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down until you have finished it!  This is a series you want for your library, and trust me when I say you will love the continuation of Remy and Brooke's beautiful love story about unconditional love, tremendous passion, loyalty, family, and most of all the beauty of hope for a bright future!

My Favorite Quotes:

"I've been loved, and I have loved.  I'm in love, and I will be forever changed by this love, by this man."

~Brooke

"And I want him like my next breath.  I want him more than anyone of these screaming women wants him.  I want every fragmented part of him.  I want his body.  His mind.  His heart.  His beautiful soul."

~Brooke

"I promise, you have my heart, and you have me.  There's just no song on this earth, and no playlist big enough, to tell him that I truly love him.  I love him when his eyes are black, and when his eyes are blue, and although I know--deep down--that he doesn't believe I'm here to stay--one day, I swear one day I will make him believe me."

~Brooke

"I've been through hell, and I'm back in heaven, and suddenly I know that's the way my life will be:  after the dark, I will always, always find my light--which is him."

~Brooke

"Now I know that he is really mine.  These fingers have been mine from the moment they touched me.  This face.  These lips.  This huge, kind, protective, possessive, and forgiving heart.  He's been mine since I've been his, and knowing that makes me feel like I'm being pieced apart, then put back together new and whole and happy."

~Brooke

Book Review: The Heavens Rise by Christopher Rice

The Heavens Rise
By:  Christopher Rice
Published:  Oct. 15, 2013
By:  Gallery Books

GR's Summary:

New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice brilliantly conjures the shadowed terrors of the Louisiana bayou—where three friends confront a deadly, ancient evil rising to the surface—in this intense and atmospheric new supernatural thriller.

It’s been a decade since the Delongpre family vanished near Bayou Rabineaux, and still no one can explain the events of that dark and sweltering night. No one except Niquette Delongpre, the survivor who ran away from the mangled stretch of guardrail on Highway 22 where the impossible occurred…and kept on running. Who left behind her best friends, Ben and Anthem, to save them from her newfound capacity for destruction…and who alone knows the source of her very bizarre—and very deadly—abilities: an isolated strip of swampland called Elysium.

An accomplished surgeon, Niquette’s father dreamed of transforming the dense acreage surrounded by murky waters into a palatial compound befitting the name his beloved wife gave to it, Elysium: “the final resting place for the heroic and virtuous.” Then, ten years ago, construction workers dug into a long-hidden well, one that snaked down into the deep, black waters of the Louisiana swamp and stirred something that had been there for centuries—a microscopic parasite that perverts the mind and corrupts the body.

Niquette is living proof that things done can’t be undone. Nothing will put her family back together again. And nothing can save her. But as Niquette, Ben, and Anthem uncover the truth of a devastating parasite that has the potential to alter the future of humankind, Niquette grasps the most chilling truths of all: someone else has been infected too. And unlike her, this man is not content to live in the shadows. He is intent to use his newfound powers for one reason only: revenge.

A masterful coming-of-age novel…Rice’s characters are complex and real, his dialogue pitch-perfect, and his writing intelligent and strong.”

Publishers Weekly, Starred Review for THE HEAVENS RISE (Gallery Books; October 15, 2013; $26.00) by Christopher Rice

My Thoughts:

The Heavens Riseby Christopher Rice, was a good paranormal horror story.  The first thing that caught my eye was the way Mr. Rice described things.  His prose were very detailed, and lent themselves to very graphic visualizations in my head.  He has a very beautiful and prolific writing style.  As for the story plot, it was very intricate, complex, and at times a bit confusing.  There were a ton of characters, and view points.  Also, the story jumped back and forth between the past and present.

The Heavens Rise had a very interesting premise.  It was about a teenage girl, Niquette, as well as a her boyfriend, Anthem, their good friend Ben, and a scary and psychotic guy that is obsessed with Niquette, named Marshall.  When Niquette and Anthem break up, she starts dating Marshall.  One night, Niquette and Marshall go swimming in her new pool, (which has been filled from an old well,) and things get out of hand.  Marshall tries to force himself on Niquette, and when she runs away from him, she sees these scary looking white creature things that are crawling all over her.  Afterwards, a ton of bizarre events begin taking place.  Niquette and her family disappear.  At the same time animals and people start dying.  Little by little, the mystery and horror of what's taking place starts to unravel, and it's not pretty.

The Heavens Rise was not what I would refer to as easy reading.  When you read this book, you need to make sure that you have no distractions, and are able to really focus on the story.  At times, I found that there was a little too much description, and I needed more action to take place.  The pacing of the story was fairly slow, and I believe that was due to the complexity of the plot, as well as the amount of description, and multiple character view points.

Even though this story was not for me, I could still appreciate the creative and imaginative workings of Mr. Rice's mind, and the beauty of his writing.  I believe fans of Stephen King will love Mr. Rice's story telling!  As a matter of fact, I plan on giving this book to my cousin to read.  She is a huge Stephen King fan, and I believe that she will love this story.  I give The Heavens Rise, by Christopher Rice, 3 Imaginative, Intricate, Gory, and Disturbing Stars!  This story is a good choice if you are looking for a book to get you in to the spirit of Halloween, or you are in the mood for a creepy horror story.

My Favorite Quote:

"Marshall crouched down next to him and Danny looked into his eyes for the first time in his life.  He'd only seen them in photographs.  At first, their large size made them oddly welcoming, but then he saw they were utterly expressionless; staring into them felt like being invited to dive headfirst into an empty swimming pool."  (eARC, Loc.1542)

**Mature Content Warning** 17+ for language and sexual content.

Five years ago, twenty-three-year-old panther shifter Sera Czedar left her home and her newly mated groom in a humiliating position after a mating ceremony gone wrong. She built a new life for herself in Varselles, the City of Outcasts where shifters exiled from their clans in the Seven Kingdoms can go for sanctuary.

Five years ago, panther shifter Levian Grayson was abandoned on the bonding bed by his bride, Sera. After years of tracking her, he arrives in Varselles, intent on staking his claim on her once and for all, even if it means hauling her over his shoulder just to make sure that happens.

Sera has always known her homecoming would eventually catch up with her one day. The one thing she can’t bear to do is hurt Levian, which will happen as soon as he finds out the reason she left him. Is she ready to take that path? Most of all, will Levian still want her when the truth comes out?

The Way I See It

OH MY! What a wonderous read!! This world is so intricate and all of the characters personalities jump off the pages. Levian is brooding and dreamy. He will do what it takes to find his mate and once he does he will make sure she will never leave him again. This was a great entertaining read! Shifters, Humans, Viruses, New World oh MY!

H-
aunted, Sera has been gone for so long Levian wants his mate back and safe in her arms.
O-
wned, so long ago Levian claimed his mate while another let her go.
M-
ission, a few trusted and not-so-trusted warriors will go claim Sera and bring her home where she belongs.
E-
arn, Sera has had to fight. Respect and honor are not readily given in Varselles.
C-
harming, a wolf has been her guide and her partner. Sera is grateful but she loves another.
O-
bjects, so many years at work, so much training, all to collect artifacts that will win her fathers forgiveness.
M-
ate, once lanky and a boy... now Beta Levian and Sera are meant for each other no matter what comes their way.
I-
ndigo, the color of her panthers eyes. Sera has grown up and she will face her demons even if it breaks her heart.
N-
aked, the truth is out. Her soul is bare. Its all up to Levian now.
G-
esture, something so small a truth so obvious everyone will need time. Sera will return home but this is only the beginning.

The growth and the journey Sera had to take wasn’t easy but the best things usually aren’t. This was a quick glimpse into a new fab world. I am so curious about these journals... OMG, can Ms. Robert write a steamy scene!! Holy moly can-you-say HAWT! These twin brothers will steal your heart. Sera takes a bit of it too. ;)

My Rating

4.25 Panther, Roar, Fighter, Wolf, Journals, Father, True Mate, Tien, Ship, Reunion, Family, Soul Mate filled stars. For a steamy new fantasy in an amazing new world definitely check this gem out!!

Eeeep! We wanted to know about the inspiration behind the amazing world of Homecoming and a bit more about Sera!
So we asked ;)

When I started working on Homecoming, I was partly inspired by two things while creating Anndesia, the Cloaked Devices world. One of them was Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling world. I could read the  books in this series just for the world building alone--but then she has all those sexy Weres prowling across the pages. I'm a huge fan of her stories, as well novels that feature shifters in paranormal romance. The customs in Anndesia, for example the mating ceremony is something that I came up with. In our world, we have weddings to celebrate a man and woman's reunion. I wanted something similar yet different. Also, I didn't want to follow the usual 'fight or kill to acquire the Alpha title' route. In Anndesia, the current Alpha has the right to choose the next clan leader, and no one will oppose him--in the case of the duke choosing his reluctant daughter and training her to take over from him. In other shifter races in Anndesia, some Alphas nominate who they think would make a great leader for their clan and toss them in a ring to fight. Whoever wins, becomes the leader. Some of these practises are featured in later instalments of the Cloaked Devices series. Then we have Varselles. I had so much fun 'building' this city. It's so lively and dangerous and fascinating, a place anyone can hide and never be found. While creating a fictional world, I usually look at the world around me, decide what I can add to make a story more lively. That's how the carnival scene came about. Imagine tossing in something like a carnival in a city teeming with Outcasts, people who don't live by any rules!
The steam punk angle:  I've always been intrigued by the steam punk world for a while now and always wanted to write in this genre. Homecoming isn't heavy on the steam punk elements because Anndesia is still a developing world, readying itself for this era and integrating it with the powers some of the humans possess. Then there is the fantasy part of the story where the humans have elemental powers. This was partly inspired by the Nickelodeon television series Avatar: The Last Air bender. The first time I watched this on TV, I ordered the DVDs immediately on Amazon so I could watch them anytime, study how the creators of this show weaved in the story together with the world they created.  The world building is spectacular and so are the characters.

Sera's 3 favourite moves
There's one she really loves. The Choke. Sera is petite, so she has to figure out the fastest way to bring her fighting partner or attacker to their knees. This move works pretty well for her.
Her next move is 'duck, twist and punch' move down to pat, thanks to her size and being fast on her feet.
The last but not least, there is this one where she goes airborne and before her fight partner knows what hit him/her, Sera delivers two fast kicks on the person's face followed by the Choke. This also depends on how fast Sera or her opponent is on their feet.
Sera has a couple more up her sleeve, which will be showcased in the next book instalment.

Her choice of weapons
Daggers (one on her thigh and on her hip)
Various potions ranging from death-on-contact to sexual dysfunction that lasts up to forty-eight hours.
Her fists.
Claws are always good, when everything fails. :D
Thank you so much for having me here! :)

Eeeep! We are looking forward to MORE!!
Thank you Ms Robert!

"I refuse, I whisper in a fervent voice, to sit there and watch you getting hurt on purpose.  I refuse to let you push me away, he says with equal fervor, filling one large, soapy hand with the weight of my breast.  Shaking my head with a frown, I let my eyes drift shut when he tilts the showerhead to my face.  The spritz washes away my shampoo, and when he slides his hands down my hair to help the soap trickle down my body, I can barely keep it together.  Taking action before I lose it, I seize the soap and make lots of bubbles, then I reach out to the slick muscles of his chest and rub my soapy fingers over his hard, smooth flesh.  His chest jerks at my unexpected touch, and when my eyes flick up to his, my knees almost give.  All of my body clenches as I hold those starved blue eyes, my fingers rubbing wetly up his thick arm, down his chest, across his eight-pack.  My voice, thick with emotion, is barely heard above the trickling water.  Is this what you wanted?  When you were out there, recklessly letting yourself be hit?  Gently, he grips my face in one hand, his voice stern and passionate as he enunciates every word.  I want you.  I want you to touch me, to put your lips on mine--like before.  I want you to love me.  Stop fucking punishing me, Brooke.  I love you."

Synopsis:

She was meant to be his destruction…
A pawn played in a perilous game between
father and son…
Yet, her strength was more than either man could imagine.
As Maddy learns to save herself…
She becomes the one thing that could set the son free.

Madeleine Clark was raised to become a concert cellist. Sheltered and naïve, she remains hidden behind her music, a protection from the world around her. On the night of her first solo performance, Maddy accepts the admiration of a stranger and finds herself captive in a cruel and twisted power struggle between a sadistic father and his son, Aaron.

Seemingly, dangerous and uncaring, Aaron manages the business operations of his father’s estate. Wanting nothing to do with the slaves kept at the Estate, Aaron refuses to take part in the deeper depravities of his father. Despite his resistance, Aaron’s father ‘gifts’ him with a petite, brunette woman he can’t refuse.

A bond forged in conspiracy and deceit, Aaron struggles to save Maddy by teaching her to survive in the world in which he’d been raised. An unlikely union, Aaron soon learns that great strengths can exist within small packages, while Madeleine learns that love
and light can exist in the darkest of places.

Excerpt

Finding her voice, Maddy spoke out of turn, not thinking about the repercussions her words could elicit.  “I would prefer you call me by my name.”  She peaked up at him through her lashes.  “Maddy, I would prefer that you call me Maddy.”
Aaron stopped with his bare back turned to her, taking several minutes to finally respond, he asked, “What makes you think you are allowed to ask that?  If I wanted, I could call you slave…”  He turned to face her, the contours of chest perfectly shadowed, his strength unquestionable.  “…or whore.”  His swagger was slow as he approached her, a hunter skilled in pursuit.  “Would you prefer those names to ‘Mouse’?”
Sucking her bottom lip between her teeth, Maddy fidgeted with her hands, refusing to look Aaron in the eyes.  She could feel his gaze touching her skin, his perusal of the woman barely half his size.  The heat of his body rolled off of him as he circled her.  It was the feeling of a soft blanket and lustful threat wrapped around her at the same time.  When the deep resonation of his voice occurred again, she cringed, fearing he would strike out at her for the incorrect answer.  “Why do you dislike the name I have given you?”
Continuing to fidget, Maddy trained her eyes on her feet, not daring to look up into the endless green she knew stared down at her.  Gripping her under her chin, Aaron pulled her face up to look at him, his eyes searching hers for the answer to his question.  “You will speak when I tell you.”  Dropping his hand from her face, he took a step back placing distance between them.  “Now answer me.”
Her heart pounded against the walls of her chest, her throat constricted, making it difficult for her to breath.  Fear consumed her as she stood in the shadow of the man who’d taken at least two lives that day.  Barely a whisper, her voice squeaked out the answer to his question. “Because a mouse is a furry little rodent, something detested.”
Aaron stood thoughtful and silent above her.  When he didn’t respond, Maddy quietly added, “I guess it’s better than Xander’s name for me.”
Laughter bellowed out, causing the toned muscles of Aaron’s broad chest to flex and relax before her eyes.  The sound of his amusement so real, it caused her to want to smile in response to seeing a piece of his mask falling away, revealing parts of him not witnessed by many people.  Containing himself, Aaron’s eyes sparkled as he asked, “And what, exactly, is Xander’s name for you?”
A scowl creased the fine skin between her eyes, her mouth pulled into the pout of a sulking child.  “He calls me ‘cricket’…an insect.  It’s odd that you both refer to me as nothing more than a common household pest.”
Aaron’s smile faltered as he looked down upon the beautiful girl who didn’t fully understand her role.  “No, Madeleine, you are not a common household pest…”
Maddy looked up at him, anticipating what he would say next.
For a fleeting second, he looked genuinely amused, but his expression was quickly replaced with indifference and contempt as he stated, “you are lower than even a pest in your role as a slave.”

My Review:

Oh.my.God

O_o !!!!!!!!

Only minutes after reading the Prologue to this book, I was a MESS! I expected DARK, but never in a million years did I expect DARKNESS of this kind. I got heart palpitations, a sleepless night and a book hangover that I had to treat with a sweet fluffy read afterwards. This book completely INTOXICATED me! I usually don't read dark romance books, but I have to admit that since I reviewed my first one last month, I added a couple to my TBR list. From the moment I saw this book on my Goodreads feed, I knew that I wanted to read it. From the book cover to the blurb everything about this book was telling me to add it to my TBR list.

Madeleine is living a quiet existence and loves losing herself in her music. It's her way to escape reality. On a night that she will never forget she meets mysterious Aaron Carmichael who claims to be an admirer of hers. After their encounter, Madeleine never imagined seeing Aaron ever again. On her way home from the concert she is abducted by Joseph Carmichael, Aaron's father, and the man behind The Estate. He ''gifts'' Madeleine to his son for his birthday. Aaron is livid that his father would fall so low and he is obliged to take Madeleine as his slave for fear that far worse things could happen to her.

From the very beginning to the very end this book kept me on the edge of my seat! I actually had to put it down with two chapters to go. I'll admit it, I was freakin' scared of what would happen at the end. My stomach was in knots! The author did a PHENOMENAL job at bringing us a story that is so heavy, deep, raw, twisted, but most of all eye-opening. It was beautiful to see that even in the darkest place, there is always light. My favorite part of the book is the scene that you see on the book cover. This is where the story turns around.

Madeleine is a true WARRIOR. What she goes through from the moment she is abducted is horrible!!! Images of disturbing scenes are stuck in my head. I have never read anything this dark! I had a hard time with Aaron at the beginning. I still can't forgive him for some stuff he did to Madeleine. Aaron is an executioner and he's not afraid of getting blood on his hands. He knows that he's on the edge of darkness and he shows Madeleine his true colors. From every humilation she gets stronger, for every painful moment she endures her need for revenge is bigger. From a world of darkness emerges a woman with a determination that just blew me away! Aaron did end up winning my vote by the end of this book. Madeleine took over his heart and made him want more.

I have to give a special mention to Xander, Aaron's best friend, he is one intriguing character. I loved him from the beginning! Even if he did do some wrong things along the way, I always wanted to read more about him. Watch out for his story it's the next one in The Estate Series. I can't wait to read it :)

Joseph Carmichael is getting his own book. A story about how The Estate began. I don't know how I'm going to read that book, but I have to absolutely find out how he became this sick, twisted, disgusting human being!

My Rating:

I give Madeleine, Abducted by M.S. Willis 5 Huge, dark, phenomenal, raw, captivating, eye-opening, heart-stopping stars! I will NEVER forget this book! I am so happy that I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave this book a try!
