Synopsis:

"I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she's scared. But I will."

Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, at first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Colin's job was to abduct Mia as part of a wild extortion plot and deliver her to his employers. But the plan takes an unexpected turn when Colin suddenly decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota, evading the police and his deadly superiors. Mia's mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them, but no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family's world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a compulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems….

Review:

OMG! This was not at all what I was expecting!!!

I can't believe that freakin' ending!!!! I was like .....
despicable me animated GIF

I can't believe this is Mary Kubica's first novel!!! Are you serious?!?!? The Good Girl was an intense, edge-of-your-seat kind of book. I have to admit that the blurb caught my attention right from the start! I could not wait to start reading it! I think that I have never read anything quite like it!

I usually do a little recap of the story in my reviews, but honestly speaking with The Good Girl I really don't want to say too much. When I read the twist that the author included in the story I was shocked!!! I could not believe what was happening!!! I'll just leave it at that because... Holy Crapola! I did not see that one coming AT ALL!!! This story was fast-paced, exciting and it kept me turning the pages until the early morning!

I loved how the author wrote this book from different POV's. Eve (Mia's mother), Gabe (Detective) and Colin (Kidnapper). I love when authors write from multiple POV's. It easier for me to connect with the characters when this happens. I really enjoyed the characters in this story.

Mia and Colin were great together. Their relationship grew slowly, but it kept on getting stronger and stronger. I loved reading from Colin's POV. My heart broke for him in many occasions. He had a really difficult life, and meeting Mia changed his life. Mia was a character that I connected with instantly even if the story was not told from her POV.

Eve and Gabe's POV's were very interesting. The Eve that I was introduced to at the beginning of the story is completely different by the end of this journey. I loved how she put her foot down in her home. Her husband was a real a**hole!!! I can't stand him!!!! I was cheering for Eve the whole time and I am so proud of what she accomplished. Gabe was very persistent in his mission to bring Mia home safe and sound. He was also a character that was really kind.

This book was like a big puzzle. I tried to start putting the pieces together, but at some point of the story I would change my mind about a certain piece. I was a bit confused with my puzzle pieces because the story kept on switching from before the kidnapping to during, and also after the kidnapping. I was missing the most important piece and then BAM!!!! The last piece falls into place and the mysterious puzzle is done!

Rating:

I give, The Good Girl, by Mary Kubica 4 suspensful, unique, heart-pumping, riveting stars!
