Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay...

My Thoughts:

Ms. Armentrout is a master writer. I can't get over how talented she is. She has this amazing ability to weave these stories that hook me, pull on my heart strings, have me hanging on every single word, and begging for more! How does she do this to me every single time?!!! I don't know, but I absolutely love her for it. Every single moment with a Jennifer L. Armentrout book is magical. I get lost in to whatever world that she pulls me in to, every single time.

Stone Cold Touch was another spectacular addition to The Dark Elements Series. This story had it all; suspenseful plot twists, great characters, steamin' hot chemistry between the characters, and of course, it kept me guessing what would happen next the whole way through. Stone Cold Touch left off where White Hot Kiss ended. Roth is temporarily out of the picture, and Zayne starts to express his deep rooted feelings to Layla once and for all. He asks her to take a chance with him and see where it will lead. Even though I'm in love with Roth, I was excited to learn more about Zayne and see how things would work between him and Layla. However, my impatience grew when things between Zayne and Layla didn't really click. I was expecting all of this hot chemistry and explosive attraction between the two of them to create fireworks. Instead, Layla acted uncomfortable with Zayne, and I felt like he was pursuing her, and she was hiding or acting awkward with him for the most part. The two of them are great characters separately, but together, it just felt forced.

Roth ends up showing back up, and things take an interesting turn in the story! He is back because a Lilin (a powerful demon created from Lilith) has been released in to the world, and he must find and destroy it. Roth proceeds to tell Layla that they cannot be together, because he doesn't have deep feelings for her. What they had was just a fling, and it won't happen again. Of course Layla is heartbroken, and turns to Zayne for comfort. Even though Layla plans on staying away from Roth, she just cannot avoid him. He's back at school, in her classes, sitting at her lunch table, and following her around. Layla and Roth partner up to find the Lilin, and the more time they spend together, the more that their is no denying the powerful chemistry and feelings that these two share for one another.

Ms. Armentrout writes the best endings in her stories! She is the queen of crazy cliffhangers! The ending in Stone Cold Touch had me crying my eyes out! I don't know how Ms. Armentrout does it, but she sucks me in every single time! I was completely flabbergasted by the ending, but in retrospect, should have figured it out. The clues were there from the very beginning. I'm 100% Team Roth! He loves Layla so much and is willing to do anything, and I mean sacrifice himself for her. That is true love right there!!!

My Rating:

Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout gets 5 Sultry, Steamin' Hot, Unpredictable, Crazy Cliffhanger, Rothalicious Stars!!! If you are a huge JLA fan, you will not be disappointed! If you haven't tried out any of her books, and enjoy young adult paranormal romance, try The Dark Elements Series, and welcome to your new addiction!

And don't forget!
The choice is yours...

Beginning today you’ll have 3 weeks to visit the series website, www.thedarkelementsseries.com, to take a poll and decide which guy Layla should ultimately choose in the final book in the trilogy, Every Last Breath.

At the end of 3 weeks, we will tally all the votes, and that’s when Jennifer L. Armentrout will start writing Every Last Breath. The guy who gets the most votes is the one Layla will pick.

To prevent early spoilers, we're not going to reveal who won the poll in advance…you’ll have to wait until Every Last Breath goes on sale on July 28th, 2015 to find out whether Zayne or Roth wins Layla in the end. We promise the book will be epic and definitely worth the wait!

Who do you want Layla to end up with? Go to www.thedarkelementsseries.com and vote for your choice!

EXCERPT:

I’d remained in bed after that, trying to sort through the odd tingling in my chest. There was a slight smile on my lips, because Zayne…well, he’d made my day, but then I’d remember what Roth had said to me the night before and the smile would wash away as if it had never been there.

I probably needed to get used to the whiplash mood swings.

It wasn’t until after dinner that I decided to scrub a day’s worth of gunk off myself. Gingerly, I peeled the bandage off, happy to find that the cut in my arm was healing as expected. I didn’t need to cover it anymore. The arm was still tender, but the Warden blood in me was quickly undoing the damage from the iron.

After changing into fresh pj’s, like a total hermit, I padded over to my desk, where I’d left my cell phone. It had been on silent all day and when I tapped the screen, I wasn’t surprised to see a slew of texts from Stacey.

Where r u?

R u skipping, u ho?

A minute later: Your locker misses u. Guess u sick with the herp?

Oh my God. I laughed out loud, grinning as I thumbed through her texts. Our bio sub is still hot. U r missing this.

Bio is lonely.

My boobs miss u. How weird is that?

That was notably weird and yet not surprising.

If I get my cell taken from me, it’s ur fault.

Holy shit, Layla, where r u?!?

Air punched out of my lungs as I read the next text and the several following them.

U have no idea who just walked into bio!!!

Roth is here!

Holy Canola oil, why aren’t u here to witness this?

Ok. He says he had mono. Srlsy? Do people still get mono? And who in the duck was he kissing? A second later—Duck? I didn’t mean duck. That’s SO not what I meant, autocorrect.

Another text had come in about fifteen minutes after the last one. He asked where u were. I told him u joined a cult. I laughed. He didn’t.

Finally, the last text was to call her if I wasn’t dead.

“What in the Hell?” I tossed my cell onto the bed, mouth hanging open.

  1. I haven't started this series yet though I have the prequel and the first book. I just skimmed your review just to get your impressions. Oh, good to know that there are some twisties. I love that about Jennifer's stories. Glad it was a big hit even after Layla and Zayne's merry little chase thing.
