GR's Summary:
A new love will test the boundaries of passion between a privileged boy next door and the tattooed, blue-haired girl who helps him embrace his wild side...

Nate has developed quite a playboy reputation around campus. It's not that he doesn't respect or trust women; he doesn't trust himself. The men in Nate’s family are prone to abusive behavior—a dirty secret that Nate’s been running from his entire life—so Nate doesn't do relationships. But he can’t help himself around one girl…

Jessie is strong, independent, and works at a tattoo parlor. Nate can’t resist getting close to her, even if it’s strictly a friendship. But it doesn't take long for Nate to admit that what he wants with Jessie is more than just friendly.

With Jessie, he can be himself and explore what he’s always felt was a terrifying darkness inside him. Even when Nate begins to crave her in a way that both shocks and horrifies him, Jessie still wants to know every part of him. Testing their boundaries together will take a trust that could render them inseparable… or tear them apart.

My Thoughts:

I have enjoyed every book in the Between Breaths Series by Christina Lee.  I found the characters relatable and very likable.  I also appreciate the way Ms. Lee brings important issue's in to the spotlight in all of her books, making them meaningful, and more than just a good entertaining story.

In Promise Me This, we get Nate's story (Kai's cousin,) and Jessie's story.  To the outside world, it would appear that Nate has it all.  He's good looking, wealthy, and has a great personality.  However, lurking in the depths, is a painful childhood, in which Nate and his older brother endured, and watched their mother endure physical abuse.  This has given Nate traumatic emotional scars, and effected his relationships with others.  Nobody knows his secret.  Yet, it keeps him from having healthy relationships, and moving forward in his life.  He has kinky sexual interests, and feels guilty for his sexual fetishes.  He fears turning in to the monster that his father already is.

Jessie had a loving, happy, and healthy childhood.  She's strong, confident, and self-sufficient.  She has monetary problems, but has a hard time accepting help from others, and prefers to stand on her own two feet.  Nate and Jessie have been acquaintances for awhile and love to flirt and joke around with one another.  While Nate has always been attracted to Jessie, the feelings haven't been mutual.  Jessie likes lean guys with lots of tattoos and piercings.  She views Nate as a spoiled, pretty rich boy, who has an easy life.  However, one night when she catches him making out with another woman, she starts to view him differently.  All of a sudden an attraction begins to grow.  When Jessie ask's Nate to help her with her photography project, they begin to spend more time together.

Soon, Jessie realizes that there is a lot more to Nate than she ever realized.  Nate and Jessie's friendship grows and begins to turn in to more.  However, Nate doesn't do relationships.  Will he be able to overcome his traumatic past, or will he lose Jessie forever?
