Summary:

After the only girl he ever loved told him he would never be enough, Rowdy St. James knocked the Texas dust off his boots and decided he was going to do everything in his power to live up to his nickname. Life was all about a good time, good friends and never taking much too seriously. Rowdy learned his lesson early on, when you care that much about anything it can destroy you, and he never wants to risk feeling like that again. Only now he has a new coworker, a ghost from the past who’s making him question every lesson he ever learned.

Salem Cruz grew up in a house with too many rules, too many regulations, and no fun allowed. That never worked for her so she left it all behind as soon as she could, but she never forgot the sweet, blue-eyed boy next door who’d been in love with her little sister. Fate and good intentions from an old friend have placed her right in Rowdy’s path and she’s determined to show him he picked the wrong sister all those years ago. A mission that is going along perfectly until the one person that ties them together shows up and could very well tear them back

Jet Interviewing Ayden:

Now that they’ve settled into this interview thing Jet starts to relax a little. He reaches out and taps the wedding ring he put on Ayden’s finger a couple of years ago.

Jet: What about you? What’s the best thing about being married to me, not just being married in general?

She scoffs at him: Really? That’s easy. Who else has a husband that sings them to sleep every night even when he’s a hundred miles away? You have the most beautiful soul of any person I have ever met Jet Keller. Being married to you makes me a better person, a softer person.

He shifts in his seat a little and narrows his eyes at her: Does that ever bother you, the fact that some people think you are cold, that you can come across as indifferent and insensitive?

She narrows her eyes back at him: Does it bother you?

Jet: No. I always knew there was more under that armor than you were letting on. A lot of people don’t take the time to really look closely at what a person is really about. She sighs a little and shifts so that she can rest her head on his shoulder: I can be cold…and bitchy but let’s be real, who can’t. I think when a woman is trying to make choices to protect her man it comes off as selfish and thoughtless and when a man does the same kind of thing it’s viewed as protective and self-sacrificing. It’s a stupid double standard but that’s just the way the world works I guess. I always try and make choices that are in the best interest of the people I love but that doesn’t mean I’m going to get it right every single time.

Jet: I like it when you’re cold. That means I get to warm you up. Do you regret any of those choices now? I know it’s cheating because you already asked me that but now I’m curious?

She reaches out and pushes some of his messy hair out of his face. It’s not only his soul that is beautiful it’s also the love he has for her shining out of his eyes.

Ayden: I wish I had been at court with you when you finally put your father away. That was important and I should have been there to support you. I really should have been there to shut your mom down when she tried to blame you for everything afterwards. I know you love her but sometimes you need a buffer. I’m your buffer and I let you down.

It’s still a hard memory for him so he doesn’t agree or disagree with her he just wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her even closer.

Jet: Family is hard. Look at everything Asa is mixed up in. Do you think he’ll turn it around?

Ayden: He’s always going to be Asa and that means he’s always going to be slippery and that you’re always going to have to think five steps ahead to keep up with him…but he finally found something-someone to really live for and that’s a huge incentive for him to be a better man.

Jet: The best incentive in the world if you ask me. Okay my last question is are you absolutely sure you aren’t ready to start making babies? Come on a dark haired little girl with whiskey colored eyes…doesn’t that sound like the best adventure we can go on together?

They both laugh a little and maybe, just maybe Ayden softens a little bit: All in good time. Everything that is supposed to happen eventually ends up happening…you just have to get to the end of the story…skipping ahead leaves all the good stuff out.

He grunts in response and stands up pulling her with him. Obviously it’s been long enough and it’s time for him to set about warming her up. Surely the closest bathroom will work just fine for whatever he has in mind :)

  3. I don't have a tattoo but if I was going to get one it'd be on the inside of my wrist - my friend passed away a couple of years ago so I think getting her initials would be a nice thing to do :)
