Yes, I most definitely judge a book by it's cover.  I know that I'm not suppose to... However, if I'm being honest, I'll admit that if the book cover doesn't attract my attention, I won't even read the synopsis!  I've also bought books just because I loved the cover so much, and wanted it for my library.  I have read books where I thought that the book cover was unattractive, but because a friend recommended it to me, I gave it a shot.  There are amazing book cover designers out there.  If I were self-publishing my book, I would make sure that I did my research before picking a cover designer.  I absolutely LOVE Okay Creations!  Their book covers are stunning and beautiful.  I've seen popular Indie Authors such as, Colleen Hoover, Abbi Glines, Jennifer Armentrout, and Courtney Cole use them to design their books.  I've purchased a lot of books designed by them because their book covers are so beautiful!  I think it's important for authors to realize how important the book cover design is to the success of selling their book. Remember, as a reader, our first impression is based off of the book cover, and it is immediate!  Then, we read the book, and decide whether we liked the story or not.  However, if your book cover doesn't attract readers, it doesn't matter how much you promote your book, or how amazing your story is, readers aren't going to have the desire to purchase, and read it!  Three of my favorite book covers are Insurgent by Veronica Roth, Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire, and Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare.  I love the collector's edition of Insurgent.  The cover is shiny, and the colors blend beautifully.  I love the tree, in the center of the cover.  Walking Disaster, has a very sexy, and alluring cover. I love the shading of the butterfly, and the tribal tattoo on his well-developed bicep. Who doesn't enjoy a cover with some eye-candy on it ladies?!  I think Clockwork Princess, is a stunning book cover. I enjoy the combination of the traditional with the modern. I think this book looks magical, and full of many secrets to be revealed.  It also has a Steampunk feel to it, and I tend to love book covers in this genre.

Absolutely!!  I will shout from the roof tops, “I totally judge a book by its cover!”  You know thee ol’ sayin, a picture is worth 1000 words?  Yep, I totally agree with that!   To me the cover of the book is the authors one opportunity to grab their new readers!  If there is SYMBOLISM involved?!!  Holy Balls!!  I’m floored...Little tidbit about me y’all may or may not know...I love pretty things, and I joke a lot, and I act silly almost all of the time! HOWEVER, I’m a pretty deep little thing. ;)  A beautiful sunrise can make me cry;)  Maybe not tears tears, but my heart smiles, A LOT.  I feel like the cover of a book is the window to its soul. This one image is a DIRECT look into the book before reading the words. Do what you will with that...Go ahead I challenge you!! ;)  If it's careless, and sloppy or just ugly, i’m like...Eww, I don’t want to read that!  Luckily for me I don’t solely base reading a book on its cover, especially with indie authors...Rest at ease!  I put in my due diligence before cracking a new book open. I’d be lying if I said a good looking cover doesn’t pull me in!  Oh, another thing...Lauren Oliver, author of the Delirium series says, she and lots of authors have very little to do with a cover of a book.  It's all marketing stuff, and attracting a specific target.  Having heard that, I was like well indie authors covers stock, just went up. ;) I must say I love lots of covers but here are a few recents that drew me into the story right away.

Entangled- I fell in LOVE right away.  I wanted to know more about this story based on its cover.  Once I read it, I was NOT disappointed.  From beginning to end this novel captivated me!!

Hyde- butterfly with a dark side blood, and a pretty good vs evil portrait.  I was drawn to it right away, and I wanted to know what this story was about.  Again, I loved the outcome, beautiful cover and an amazing story!

Surrender Your Love- I was like “hello” nice back! ;)  I was drawn to the muscles and the tattoo yes!  I love tattoo’s.  I bet this is a great read, and it sucked me right in!  From beginning to end I thoroughly enjoyed this nove!!

The Punchline:

I have never been drawn to a cover and regretted it!  I judge books by their cover, and will continue to do so.  It hasn’t failed me yet!

laters,
;)

I must admit that the cover plays an essential role when choosing a book!  It has to look esthetically pleasing to me, or I don't pick it up.  I love to see a beautiful cover on a book, or a great looking couple.  It makes it easier for me to picture, and place myself into my new journey.  I've been this way since I was a child.  Who doesn't love to look at a bookshelf filled with beautiful covers?  I'm very proud of my books, and love to display each and every one of them, and I think they look wonderful.  Three of my favorite covers are, The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden, Fallen, and Daughters of the moon.  The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden, makes me feel the chemistry between these two characters, with the rain pouring down on them.  I feel completely enthralled in the kiss, and the longing they have for each other.  This is one of my all time favorite couple covers.  Fallen, completely pulls me into the darkness of the shadows, the sadness, and sobbing, and loneliness of Luce.  I love this cover, and am compelled to pick it up every time I see it.  My heart breaks for her.  The third cover I picked was, Daughters of the Moon.  How beautiful to look at the light of the moon as it shines on the water.  The mystical entrancement of this picture puts me in the serene zone for the adventure I am about to take. I would also like to say that I love the Insurgent cover.  That cover makes me feel pulled into the cycle of life. A very spiritual journey. Tree's always remind me of my son, Michael.

  1. Ah, I'm totally guilty of judging a book by its cover too! It is what attracts me first towards the book and then I go ahead and read the synopsis. The cover at least has to be a little catchy. Some books like say, Slammed and Point Of Retreat could have better covers I think. I only read those books because I heard SO many recommendations. I would've never read them based on the covers.

    2. I agree! I wasn't too impressed with the covers of Slammed and P.O.R! I read them because everyone kept saying how great they were. Who knows? Maybe Colleen Hoover will get the covers redesigned.

  2. I think people want to say they don't judge a book by its cover. But no matter what we all do a little because the cover is the first thing we see, so it does make an impression on us. I will totally admit that if I see a pretty cover, I am most definitely clicking on that book (if on goodreads/amazon) to read the synopsis. I really like covers with couples kissing or holding each other. Most likely because I know its going to have romance in it (:
