GR's Summary:

The men in Texas are hard to resist . .

Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole "'til death do us part" thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn't expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her "true love doesn't exist" theory all to hell.

And they always promise . . .

Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet's favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she's a handful of trouble he can't deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

Sweet Texas Series:

My Thoughts:

Something Sweeter, by Candis Terry, was a very warm, and sweet small town romance.  In this story, we get to meet the close-knit, and loyal Wilder Family.  This family has been through a lot of pain and tragedy.  Yet, they have managed to grow stronger, and more aware of treasuring the beautiful memories that they make with one another.

Jesse Wilder is the middle brother, in a family of 5 boys!  He lost his oldest brother, Jared, in Afghanistan, and his father of a broken heart a year later.  Before Jared died, he shared a secret with Jesse that has weighed heavily on his heart, and has been the catalyst for him taking it upon his shoulders, to make sure that his brothers and mother find happiness.  After they are happy, and settled, Jesse plans on finding a woman to start a life with.  Now that Jesse's brother's, Reno and Jackson are both happily engaged to be married, along with his mother, Jana, it is his goal to find happiness for his youngest brother, Jake.  However, when a sweet, sassy, and beautiful woman by the name of Allie, rolls in to town, it will take every bit of Jesse's self control not to snatch her up, and claim her as his forever.

Something Sweet was a very low angst read.  There wasn't a lot of drama, or crazy plot twists going on.  I would recommend this story for those readers that are looking for a very sweet, easy going, light, and romantic read.  I know for myself, sometimes I crave a book full of drama, angst, and plot twists, but sometimes, I need a break from it all, and just want to get lost in a sweet love story.

I adored the small town of Sweet and the Wilder Family.  I pictured Jesse's mother, Jana, looking like Dolly Parton.  She had very tall blond hair, a ready smile, and was always full of wisdom, with her words of care, comfort, and advice.  She was the matriarch of the Wilder family, and I loved her.  Jesse's brother's Jackson, Reno, and Jake, were always full of laughs and a good time.  You could tell they shared a special bond and were very close.  I felt a heaviness in my heart for their loss of their oldest brother, Jared, and their father.  I loved the brother's significant others as well.  Charli, Allie, and Jackson's ex-wife Fiona were all very sweet women, that I would love to get to know even better in the other installments of the Sweet Series.  Jackson and Fiona's three year old daughter Izzy was adorable, and added a little special something to the story.  I'm hoping that Annie, Abby's pregnant sister who was abandoned by the baby's father, will get her own story.  I'm thinking it might be interesting to see her end up with Jake.

Jesse and Allie were wonderful characters.  I loved how real they were, and how their fears, and challenges in life were very realistic.  Allie had watched her parents have an extremely dysfunctional marriage.  Her mother was manipulative, and didn't care about her two daughters.  This made Allie decide early on that she would never get married, and did not believe in love.  It is very sad, but I do believe that the relationships we are exposed to as children, such as that of our parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles, deeply affect us.  If we see positive and happy relationships, then we tend to have an optimistic outlook on marriage.  If we see constant fighting, dysfunction, and misery, we tend to have a negative outlook.  This was something Allie struggled with, and I like how it was portrayed realistically.  Jesse was a romantic at heart, and was determined to prove to Allie that real love did exist.  He was a true Southern Gentleman, and had a heart of gold.  While at first Jessie and Allie had a strong attraction and fun and sassy banter, they eventually got to know one another on a deep level, and developed a strong foundation for friendship, romance, and love.  I give, Something Sweeter, by Candis Terry, 4 "Wild Wilder Brothers," Romantic, Sweet Southern Love Filled Stars!

About Candis Terry:

Growing up in Southern California, I was too busy reading books, hanging out at the beach, or finding ways to have a good time that wouldn’t land me on restriction to even consider writing a book. Oddly enough, a college drama teacher (who politely discouraged my inept acting abilities) encouraged me to develop the A+ character bio I’d created into a complete story. Right. Years later, in the midst of a bleary-eyed all-nighter (rocking my newborn, that is), I picked up a romance novel and fell in love with more than just the infant in my arms.

The diversities in my life have enhanced (or twisted) my worldview. From working in a Hollywood recording studio to a graphic designer in marketing; from schmoozing with the likes of Charleton Heston and Motley Crüe to giving up my beach bum ways and making the move to an Idaho farm. I’ve designed costumes for 80’s heavy metal videos and scooped up road apples left on the parade route by my daughter’s rodeo queening horse.

Only one thing has remained constant: my passion for writing stories about relationships, the push and pull in the search for love, and the security one finds in their own happily ever after. Though my stories are set in small towns, my wish is to give each of my characters a great big memorable love story rich with quirky characters, tons of fun, and a happy ending.

I’m married to a wonderful man who takes out the trash without being asked and who puts up with all my crazy ideas. To find inspiration, my family and I often grab our trailer and ATV and venture out to discover the off-road splendor of the Idaho wilderness. And when I need a fun dose of reality, I call upon my daughter and her little Mini-Me or one of our 3 furry troublemakers.

Life is good down on the farm!
