GR's Summary:

Owen's story

New Adult bestselling author Monica Murphy winds up her sensational series with this sexy story of two college kids with nothing in common but a bunch of baggage and a burning attraction.

Over. That about sums up everything in my life. Suspended from my college football team and forced to cut back my hours at The District bar because of my crappy grades, I can’t keep turning to my sister, Fable, and her pro-football playing husband, Drew, to bail me out. I just can’t seem to find my own way. Weed and sex are irresistible temptations—and it’s messed up that I secretly hand over money to our junkie mom. A tutor is the last thing I want right now—until I get a look at her.

Chelsea is not my type at all. She’s smart and totally shy. I’m pretty sure she’s even a virgin. But when she gives me the once over with those piercing blue eyes, I’m really over. But in a different way. I won’t deny her ass is killer, but it’s her brain and the way she seems to crave love—like no one’s ever given her any—that make me want her more than any girl I’ve ever met. But what would someone as seemingly together as her ever see in a screwed up guy like me?

My Thoughts:

The One Week Girlfriend Series, by Monica Murphy, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I fell in love with the collective stories, characters, and Ms. Murphy's writing style after I read the first book in this series.  As I have continued reading about the lives of Fable, Drew, and Owen, I have grown completely invested in all of their lives.  When I was first introduced to Owen, he was just a misguided kid, with a smart mouth, and a big heart.  Him and Fable had a very special relationship, due to the fact that they both didn't have a father in their lives, and their mother was a selfish, pathetic excuse of a mother.  In Four Years Later, we get to read Owen's story, but now he is in college, and living on his own.

Owen has a lot of baggage from his childhood.  He is failing out of his college courses, and has been put on probation.  He cannot return to the college football team until he raises his grades.  Owen lives with his best friend Wade, and his good friend, Dez, a drug dealer, who crashes on his couch every night.  He spends his time drinking, partying, getting high, and sleeping around.  He works at, The District, the restaurant that Fable use to work at, because he wants to pay his way, and refuses to mooch off of his wealthy brother-in-law, professional Football star, Drew Callahan.  Unfortunately, his mother comes around, and uses him to score weed, and beg for money.  Owen hides this information from Fable, because he knows that she would be angry.  He loves his sister very much, as well as Drew, and his niece, Autumn.  They are all he has.  Then, Owen is called in to a meeting with his college counselor, and informed that he needs to commit to seeing a tutor, and bring his grades up, or he will lose his place on the football team.

Chelsea is Owen's new tutor.  She is only nineteen years old, but is already a junior in college.  She was taught from a young age that men are not to be trusted, they will just break your heart.  He father is in prison for embezzlement, and even though he has cheated on Chelsea's mother with many different women throughout the years, she always takes him back.  Chelsea's mother is a very weak, and codependent person, who has lectured her daughter about the importance of an education, financial independence, and staying away from guys.  With her mother's advice, and her father's behavior, Chelsea has never been attracted or tempted by a guy.  However, everything changes when Chelsea meets Owen.  She thinks he's gorgeous.  Chelsea is very attracted to Owen.  He has never met a girl like Chelsea.  He thinks she's really cute, and he is very sexually aware of her.  As the two of them start to spend more time together, a friendship grows, as does the attraction, mutual respect, admiration, and even love.  However, Owen needs to get his act together, or face losing Chelsea forever.

I loved, Four Years Later!  I really fell in love with Owen's character.  I got to see his vulnerability, and how once Chelsea had his heart, he would do anything for her, most importantly, better himself so that he was worthy of her.  Owen was such a great character.  He was very romantic and caring.  I loved his erotic poetry.  He was rough around the edges and liked to cuss a lot, but then again, he probably got it from his older sister, Fable.  He was very sexy, and I could easily see how Chelsea fell for him.  She was really good for him, because she made him more responsible, and motivated him to be a better person.  I loved Chelsea's character as well.  She was a dedicated and hard worker.  She was loyal to those she cared about, and had a big heart.  Owen helped her to relax, not be so uptight, and go with the flow more.  It was great seeing Fable in Owen's story!  I really missed her!  The plot kept me entertained, and held my attention the whole way through.  I read this story in one sitting, and in record time!  There weren't any dull moments, and Owen's story was everything that I had hoped it would be!

My Rating:

I give Four Years Later, by, Monica Murphy, 5 Sizzling Hot, Romantic, Poetic, and Hope-Filled Stars!  This was a great ending to an amazing series!  I am so sad to say goodbye to these characters that have come to mean so much to me, but they will always have a special place in my heart!

Book Excerpt:

Big mistake. Now I’m left waiting around for Owen Maguire for twenty-five minutes instead of fifteen. And considering how late he was yesterday, my wait will probably be longer.
Feeling like a first grader told to take a nap, I cross my arms on top of the table and rest my head on them, closing my eyes. Didn’t get much sleep last night so I’m super tired. I doubt I’ll sleep now, I rarely take naps or anything but what else am I going to do to pass the time? Pace the room? Wait out front for him to finally show?
Sounds like torture.
I let my mind float. I think of Mom and how she wants me to come home. She misses me. I’m her only child and she’s super lonely. Her friends don’t come around much now that she’s in Concord and Dad is in jail. She’s got no one. She likes to tell me that every time we talk. No one but me.
But I can’t afford to go visit her whenever she wants me to and I want to save up for Thanksgiving, when I have a week off. That makes more sense. Somehow, I need to convince her of that.
But how am I going to get a week off from my job at the diner? The tutoring comes to a stop because it’s university-related. My boss at the diner won’t be as understanding. I haven’t even dared ask for any time off yet which is dumb. I need to prepare early. I need to stop being such a chicken…
I need to stop thinking about boys with pretty green eyes who think I’m a joke. I saw the amusement in his gaze at the diner. He probably laughed about me with his friends when they left. They might’ve asked who I was and I bet he said she’s nobody.
Nobody.
I’ve always been nobody.
Why can’t I be someone’s somebody? I’m lying to myself when I say I’d rather be asexual or a lesbian or whatever other silly scheme I come up with. I want a boy with a sexy walk and glittering green eyes to like me. I want him to whisper sweet words in my ear that make me shiver. I want him to touch me. I want to know what it feels like to be cherished. Just once…
“Hey.”
I recognize him, recognize that one softly spoken word. Look at how he even haunts my dreams. His deep, rumbly voice moves through me, making me tingle and I let loose a soft sigh. A sigh that turns into a barely there whimper when he touches my hair, his fingers tangled in the strands.
“Wake up, sleepyhead.” His tone is tinged with amusement and I realize I’m not dreaming.

His voice is real. His fingers in my hair are…real.
