Summary
Morgan Abbey's life is about to change. Just weeks before the beginning of her senior year, a mysterious stranger approaches Morgan with information that turns her world on end: First, the psychic ability she believes she has just been pretending to have since middle school might actually be real. Second, her mother, who disappeared abruptly and completely almost a decade ago, might still be alive. Morgan finds herself drawn into a centuries-old struggle involving a shadowy group with incredible powers. The Veneret have quietly coexisted alongside the common people of the world for centuries. Now they believe it is time for them to reclaim their former positions of power-and that Morgan is the key to their victory. Every victory comes at a price-but is it one that Morgan will be willing to pay?

The Way I See It

Awaking was a fun and interesting read I was completely immersed in the story and could not wait to find out what was going to happen next. The first thing that drew me to this series is that GAW-JESS cover!! Wow just look at it! Its all like, mysterious and hiding something truly amazing. The concept of this story is unlike anything else I’ve ever read and now sadly, I’m hooked. My life will not be complete until I see where Morgan(our main girl) ends up.

A-wkward, Morgan has never quite fit in. Life has caused her an unbelievable amount of emotional pain. Being outcasted by those that are supposed to be your friends and family hurts more than a million cuts.
W-atched, unbeknownst to Morgan many have been keeping tabs on her. Some want to protect her others want to abuse the power she holds. Unaware of all the details no one knows who has set out to do what.
A-llies, Ris has been Morgan’s truest friend for as long as she can remember and has stood by her side regardless. Throughout this story Morgan will find friends she never knew she had.
K-indred, Morgan is introduced to a world where people like her are a plenty but they are in hiding. Morgan is the key to unite everyone and restore order to people who posses the powers she does. They have been waiting for her for a long time.
I-ndecisive, Morgan knows who her friends are but something deep within her keeps crying out to be with the one person who is forbidden. Not wanting to hurt anyone she ignores these feelings until a single careless act crumbles her resolve.
N-ews, Morgans mother has been missing for years, the person she is supposed to trust to guide her drops a bomb that can no longer be ignored. The shocking reality will cause a turmoil that will take interference to keep Morgan out of harms way.
G-ames, the lines have been drawn a war is coming. Morgan knows who she is but she is still unaware of how to fight and how to live up to the prophecy that has claimed her to be the one.

Exhilarating the ending was shocking and revealing. I guessed a few of the things that transpired but was completely floored by most. The writing had an easy flow and had me turning the pages quickly to find out what happens next. This almost falls into the mystery category because the reader is kept in the dark about so many things but when the light switch flips its like a tidal wave of reveals. Awaking contains all of the classic characteristics of YA down to the snark and self doubt. Like I mentioned earlier this story’s concept is something I’ve never heard of but enjoyed very much. The naturals are far and few between but with Morgan near she seems to have the ability to draw everyone out of their personal confines. I am definitely looking forward to finding out what happens in this wonderful world Freeman has created.

My Favs

Morgan

She has basically raised herself but she has a good head on her shoulders and is a hard worker. Struggling to overcome the handicaps that society has placed on her hasn’t been easy but she continues to flourish and be a good person. I LOVED the family dynamic she has with her dad this maybe the first YA novel I’ve read where the father has been amazing and has a loving relationship with his daughter. I’m used to reading about all the downfalls of the parents and how they don’t understand the protagonists plight. In Awaking Morgan has a light but very loving and understanding relationship with her father. It was a breath of fresh air for me and made me like Morgan even more. There are a lot of things I really liked about Morgan but perhaps my favorite is her willingness to do the right thing, not the easiest, but def the right thing to do. She fights tooth and nail against an injustice she feels very strongly about and I think that is the very reason she is the one. Morgan is my girl and I’ll be cheering for her throughout till the end!!

My Rating

3.5 House Party, Captivating Stranger, Daily Grind, Special Talent, Fedora, Unused Energy, The Common, Private Office, Masked Watchers, Unplanned Kiss, Battle drawn Stars!! I cant wait to see what becomes of these characters that are full of intrigue and mystery! For a fun and different fantasy YA pick up this Series!!!

  1. Paranormal is my first love. This one sounds like I might enjoy it. The way describe Morgan makes me think I'd like her. I also like the idea of her having a good relationship with her Dad. Not enough of that going around.
