Just when she thought things were going up… Two years after a devastating breakup, Brittni Mitchell has moved on from Justin Avery—or so she tells herself. But when she returns to Seattle for her best friend’s engagement party, Brittni finds herself the victim of a disastrously timed elevator breakdown. She’s trapped with the last person she wants to face, and forced to recount the past she desperately wants to forget. She’s going to have to look back… When Brittni left her podunk hometown for a big city college experience at the University of Washington, hooking up with a guy like Justin Avery was not part of her plan. Between Justin’s attention-grabbing tattoos, cigarette smoking, and bad boy attitude Brittni quickly chalked him up as "Mr. Wrong.” But his charm was unrelenting, and Brittni’s decision to give Justin a chance quickly turned into the worst choice she ever made. So that she might be able to move forward. Now she’s stuck with Justin—literally—and the complicated web of misunderstandings that tied up the truth for two years is about to unravel.

My Thoughts:

Last year, I read No Attachments, the first story in the Woodfalls Girls Series.  I fell in love with Ashton and Nathan's memorable story, and cried my eyes out.  I got to meet Ashton's two good friends, Tressa, and Brittni.  Tiffany King has a beautiful writing style, and to this day I would say that No Attachments is one of my favorite stories.

In Misunderstandings, the second book in the series, we get Brittni's story.  Brittni has only been in love once in her life.   She fell in love when she was at the University of Washington with Justin.  After things ended between her and Justin, she moved back to her small town in Woodfalls, Maine.  Now, her college room mate and good friend Melissa is getting married to her college sweetheart Rob, who happens to be Justin's best friend.  Brittni doesn't want to see Justin again, but eventually concedes to travel to Seattle for all of the wedding festivities for Melissa and Rob.

When she first lands, Rob asks her to meet him at his office to have lunch and discuss a surprise that he has planned for Melissa.  He also invites Justin to lunch with the hopes of getting Brittni and Justin to form a truce, unbeknownst to the both of them.  As Brittni enters an empty elevator, at the last minute someone else enters, and she is shocked when she see's it's Justin.  Animosity, tension, and anger roll of of these two in waves, and it is evident that they cannot stand to be in the same space as one another.  Unfortunately, the elevator gets stuck, and Briitni and Justin end up finding themselves trapped for over 5 hours.

As Britni and Justin are in the elevator, we get flashbacks from Brittni's point of view from how they first met, dated, and how their relationship came to end so badly.  In between the flashbacks, we get the present time as they both argue, bicker, reminisce, glare at each other, and finally clear up their misunderstanding from the  past.

I loved Misunderstandings!  I breezed through the whole book in a couple of hours, because I was dying to know what the misunderstanding was.  I loved how the flashbacks were told in a linear form, so that I got to experience Brittni and Justin's whole relationship right along with them.  When Brittni and Justin first met, I didn't think that I was going to like Brittni very much.  She came off as very judgmental, critical, aloof, and arrogant, whereas Justin came off as every woman's dream come true.  However, Brittni really grew on me.  She changed, and the more I got to really know her, the more I realized that she just had a hard outer shell, but inside, she had a big heart.  The misunderstanding between the two of them was pretty huge, and I would say that they both made large mistakes that contributed to it, although, Justin's were larger.  He really made me seething angry with they way he dealt with a few things!  Needless to say, I really got invested in the plot, and the characters.

Brittni and Justin never stopped loving each other, and since I am a hopeless romantic, I was rooting for the two of them to find their way beck to each other.  They had it all; a great friendship, laughter, passion, fun, and it was obvious that whist they once had was too precious to throw away.  I adored Justin's family, they cracked me up, and felt very genuine.  I also loved Tressa's loyalty and support of Brittni, and getting to know Melissa and Rob.  The pages of this story flew by.  I loved every moment in this story.  No matter if I was angry, sad, happy, or giddy, and smiling from ear to ear.  This is how every story should be.  It should completely suck you in to the point where you don't notice when hours pass by, and that's how Misunderstandings was for me!

My Rating:

I give Misunderstandings, by Tiffany King, 4 Regretful, Passionate, Romantic, Painful, "The One that Got Away" Filled Stars!  The Woodfalls Girls is a great series!  Both, No Attachments, and Misunderstandings were such great reads!  I can't wait to get Tressa's story in Contradictions, which releases in early December.  It's sure to be a great addition to an already amazing series, and I already feel like I know Tressa, since she played such a significant role in both Ashton, and Brittni's stories.

  1. I really enjoyed this one too! I LOVED No Attachments! The flashbacks were my favorite part. Like you, I loved experiencing their relationship, but I was also sad because they had gotten to such a bad point together. I had the same issue with liking Brittni at first, but she grew on me. :) Great review Lindy!
