Goodreads Summary:

Cage brings his playboy prowess to the countryside as the Sea Breeze hookups continue, from self-published phenomenon Abbi Glines.

Low broke Cage’s heart by getting with Marcus in Because of Low. Cage went into a tailspin that ended in a DUI. In order to salvage his baseball scholarship—the one thing he truly valued besides Low—Cage must take a summer job. At a farm. Away from Sea Breeze. With lots of cows, but no hot girls. Maybe that’s what Cage needs to get back on track.

But wait—there’s that hostile daughter of the farm boss. She’s pretty and occasionally sweet, and there seems to be a lot of sadness and mystery behind her anger. Cage is dying to strip her down—physically and mentally—in the back of the barn. But is he prepared for what will happen afterward?

My Thoughts:

While It Lasts by Abbi Glines is the third story in the Sea Breeze series, and it was quite a roller coaster ride. We were introduced to Cage, in Because of Low, and learned that while he was a fiercely loyal friend, he was also a womanizer. He got easily bored with women, and enjoyed a variety of conquests. However, Cage meets his match when he is assigned to live, and work on a farm with his baseball coaches' brother, or lose his baseball scholarship after earning a DUI, and recieving a suspended driver's license for a year. When he arrives, he meets the farmer's daughter, Eva, a stunning beauty, who gives him the cold shoulder when he tries to use his sexy smile and player lines on her. She calls him on his game, and let's him know that she isn't interested in him. He's not use to this reaction from women, and Eva intrigues him. Sure, he thinks she's cold and stuck-up, but he can't help but fantasize about her. Eva lost her fiancĂ©, and the love of her life, 18 months ago to a bomb that killed him in Baghdad, while he was in the army. They grew up together since they were kids, and he was the only boy she has ever loved. Since then, she hasn't cracked a smile, picked up her guitar, or driven the brand new Jeep her father got her right before her fiancĂ© died. Everything reminds her of him, and she can't bring herself to move on. She still wears her engagement ring, and has no interest in ever being with another guy again. When she meets Cage, she pegs him as the charming womanizer he is, who is used to getting what he wants, and then tiring of it quickly.

What I loved about this story was that it had life lessons. It revealed how love can really transform a person. As Cage and Eva got to know one another, and their love developed, it transformed them. It gave Eva hope, laughter, lightness of heart, and she learned to see the good parts of Cage. However, Cage is the one who made the most stunning transformation of all. He learned to break down all his walls, learn that he was worthy of love, and not only that he could change, but he wanted to change, and become worthy of Eva. He stopped getting drunk and womanizing, and put his focus on hard work and getting to know the real Eva. He had to learn from his mistakes, and realized what he really wanted out of his life.

Another aspect I loved of, While it lasts, was the fact that there was more adult/mature content. Abbi Glines took more risks with this story. There were more drawn out, and detailed sexual situations.  As opposed to the first book in the story, that virtually skipped over those kinds of scenes.

This story was entertaining, and I recommend it to readers who enjoy the New Adult genre, and love stories. This story didn't suffer in any way from being the third book in the series, and I enjoyed seeing a different side of Cage. I also enjoyed connecting to the characters right away, and watching their relationship develop. I give, While It Lasts, 5 Beautifully Blooming Tropical Flowers!

  1. I couldn't agree more with what you've said! While It Lasts is, by far, my most favourite of the Sea Breeze series, 1) because I LOVE CAGE! and 2) because, like you said, the story is all about those important life lessons. I loved seeing Eva slowly get back to normal and seeing Cage go from having sex with any other girl to making love to one! Absolutely lovely review, Lindy! I'm SO glad you loved this one as well.
