Summary:

There are always two sides to every story . . .

His whole life, Jonah Whitecomb has strove to meet everyone’s expectations of him: the perfect student, dutiful son, loyal twin, accomplished surfer, and powerful Magical. But behind his carefully composed façade hides the truth of how his family has fallen apart, leaving Jonah more often than not feeling adrift. To complicate matters, he fell in love long ago with a girl in his dreams, one he’s never told anyone about, including his twin brother.

Just when life seems its bleakest, Jonah discovers that Chloe is real. Wanting to finally reach out and grab happiness for himself, he embarks on a journey to track down the girl of his dreams, only to find that happy endings aren’t always guaranteed, the best laid out plans can go horribly awry, and sometimes, you have to simply let yourself go along for the ride.

*Beyond Fate is Jonah’s point-of-view of the events of A Matter of Fate, and is a companion novella.

My Thoughts:

The Fate Series is my favorite New Adult Paranormal Romance Series!  I wish more people knew about these books, because they really are unique and special!  Heather Lyons is a polished writer who has come up with a unique concept.  Her world building skills are exceptional, and I can't get enough of the main characters in this series.  Chloe Lilywhite, and identical twins Jonah and Kellan Whitecomb are "Magicals."  It has been an adventure learning about their gifts, and the unique sub culture that they live in.  Along the way I have encountered a variety of interesting secondary characters that I have grown attached to.

In A Matter of Fate, the story begins to unfold and is told from Chloe's point of view.  Jonah and Chloe are "connected,"  in essence they are soul mates, as defined by "magical" society.  Even though the two of them have dreamt of one another since they were three years old, they didn't realize that the other person existed in real life.  When Jonah and Chloe aren't able to connect in each other's dreams any longer, they both are devastated.  A year later, Jonah discovers that Chloe really does exist, tracks down were she lives, and manipulates his father in to uprooting their family from Maine to California.  Even though Jonah shares everything with his twin Kellan, the one thing he never tells him or anyone else about is chloe.  Unfortunately, things become complicated when Jonah's twin falls in love with Chloe also.  Suddenly, there's a rift between the two brothers that were once inseparable, and Chloe is romantically torn between Jonah and Kellan.

Beyond Fate is the very beginning of the Fate Series, but told in Jonah's point of view.  I absolutely loved reading Jonah's perspective.  I had a lot of questions in, A Matter of Fate, such as why he never told anyone about Chloe's existence, how he felt about his first girlfriend Callie Lotus, and what thoughts were going through his mind when he was going through certain traumatic events.  In Beyond Fate, all of my questions were answered, and I learned more about Jonah and Kellan's upbringing, their twin connection, how they communicated with one another, and what some of their abilities were regarding being the most powerful "Emotionals" (the ability to influence other peoples emotions.).  I felt like I really got to know Jonah on a soul deep level in this story.  I got a better feel for his character, and learned that he keeps a lot of his thoughts and feelings inside.

If you are looking for an exceptional paranormal series, then you need to read, the Fate Series.  It has action, suspense, romance, a love triangle that makes sense, and a story that takes you to another place.  The world building is amazing!  The characters are intriguing.  You will be anticipating what will happen next, and become addicted to this series once you begin, A Matter Fate!

My Rating:

I give Beyond Fate 5 Fast Paced, Suspenseful, Soul Mate Searching Stars!  You will fall head over heels for Jonah Whitecomb, and be fascinated by his connection with Chloe!  You will feel the angst and turmoil that Jonah feels throughout his story.  If you are looking for a fresh series, that is creative, addicting, fast-paced, fun, and hasn't been overdone, the Fate Series is the perfect choice for a bookish escape!

My Favorite Quotes:

"WHAM.  It hits me.  All the things I'd been told about Connections finally coming together makes sense.  Something in me changes, shifts, and alters and electrifies and melts and suddenly the worlds make sense.  All of the doubts I'd had evaporate as I pull her closer.  Home.  I'm home.  I am finally, mercifully, home with the person I'm meant to be with.  Better yet, she loves me.  She.  Loves.  Me.  And I'll be damned if I ever let go of this again."  (eARC, Loc. 1639)

~Jonah

"She is my siren, calling me home.  I sink under her waves, not caring that I'm drowning in how so utterly lost and out-of-control I become when her tongue touches mine.  I love how she tastes, love the small, sexy sounds she makes as she loses control, too.  All I want to do is relearn this body that's haunted my dreams my entire life.  Under my hands, she's soft and warm and oh-so-addictive."  (eARC, Loc. 1672)

~Jonah

"Love can inspire such wonderful, blissful feelings, and then, once it's gone, the worst emotions possible.  Depression, hopelessness, pain...two sides of a coin.  And because love is so rare and precious, we risk this without question when any day the tides could turn."  (eARC, Loc. 1895)

~Jonah

  1. I am a huge fan of Kellan. I always like the somewhat bad boy and Kellan stole my heart. He is the Damon Salvatore of this series:)

    1. I love Kellan too :) My problem is that I love Jonah and Kellan so much, and this one one love triangle where I can't pick a favorite. I'm looking forward to Kellan's novella soon! Thanks for stopping by!
