Book Summary:

Jay Crownover’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Marked Men series continues with the much anticipated story of southern charmer and certified criminal Asa Cross.

Starting over in Denver with a whole new circle of friends and family, Asa Cross struggles with being the man he knows everyone wants him to be and the man he knows he really is. A leopard doesn’t it change its spots and Asa has always been a predator. He doesn’t want to hurt those who love and rely on him, especially one luscious arresting cop who suddenly seems to be interested in him for far more than his penchant for breaking the law. But letting go of old habits is hard, and it’s easy to hit bottom when it’s the place you know best.

Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak.

A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . .
but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.

My Thoughts:

It's been a bittersweet experience watching one of my favorite series come to an end.  The Marked Men Series will always stand out to me.  Ms. Crownover is one of the original authors that made readers love the New Adult genre.  Rule, Shaw, Jet, Ayden, Rome, Cora, Nash, Saint, Rowdy, Salem, Asa, and Royal are all amazing and unforgettable characters.  Their authentic, relatable, and likeable personalities shine through, and make them some of the best characters in the New Adult Genre.

In Asa's story, readers are able to get inside of this ex-con artists head, as well as Royal's, the beautiful and sexy police officer.  Asa is reformed, but he struggles with his conscience on a daily basis.  When he thinks about all of the horrible things that he has done in his past, and all of the people that he's hurt, he is weighed down with a lot of darkness.

Royal blames herself for her partner and best friend, Dom, getting shot while on duty.  Her guilt also weighs her down, and as she begins to engage in reckless behavior, Asa is there for her when she needs someone the most.  He is the only one that can relate to her and make her feel better.

Asa and Royal have shared an intense attraction for quite a while, but how can a cop and a con have a happily ever after together?  While Royal actively pursues Asa, he continues to turn her advances down, because he believes that she deserves better than him.  However, when Royal really wants something, she doesn't give up, and she really wants Asa....

Asa was a story about redemption, healing, and new beginning's.  Asa and Royal both underwent a huge amount of character growth in this story, and were the catalyst for each other's change.  The romance and chemistry between Asa and Royal was delectable.  Asa was a dirty talker and Royal was a take charge, wild woman!  Their coupling made for a combustible explosion of passion, heat, and intensity.  The story went at a steady pace, had one major plot twist, and gave us all of our favorite Marked Men Characters from the previous books in the series.  The ending was beautiful, and even though I was very sad to say goodbye to these characters, Ms. Crownover left me very happy with how she wrapped everything up!

My Rating:

If you like Tattoo's, sexy bad boy's with big hearts, sexy leading ladies with dynamic personalities, and real characters with scars, read the Marked Men Series!  I give, Asa, by Jay Crownover, 4 Sexy Southern Charmer, Twinkling Whiskey Colored Eyes, Shiver Inducing, Healing, and Happily Ever After Filled Stars!!!

My Favorite Quotes:

" 'I like the way you look.'  He said it like it was obvious, and maybe it was.  But coming from him it made my insides flutter and tiny pieces of my heart want to burst out of my chest and put themselves in his very dangerous hands.  'But I like the things you do, the way you act, the things you say, and the way you are even more.  You could have mousy hair, acne, and crossed eyes and still be completely beautiful by just being you."  (eARC, Loc. 2279)

~Asa

"We all had marks, some physical, some emotional, some that would never leave us, and many of those marks were of our own making as we all tried to get to the place we were supposed to be.  Our marks defined us, separated us, and made us the men we were today."  (eARC, Loc. 4459)

~Asa

  4. My favorite Marked man is Rome. He is alpha to the max and I just could not get enough of him. As for your review, you are so dead on with what there is to love about this series. Great review. I am excited (and sad) to read Asa.

  8. OMG! What kind of question is that? How am I suppose to choose????? They are all so different but I fell for each as them as I read their book. If pressed I guess I would pick Rome with all his alpha intensity but you can't hold me to that. Rule, Jet, Nash, and Rowdy all have my heart and I'm pretty sure Asa is about to give them all some serious competition for my affections. :)
