GR's Summary:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured readers hearts in Fallen Too Far

When Harlow Manning's rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan's room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He'd known about Nan's reputation, but still he couldn't resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister—even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow's eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?

Rosemary Beach Series:

My Thoughts:

Ever since I read my first Abbi Gline's book, Breathe (Seabreeze #1), I was addicted.  Her stories have a way of completely pulling me in and consuming my every thought.  I become so involved in her stories, that I tend to forget everything else around me.  She writes three-dimensional, and well developed characters.  Her story lines always come with plot twists, surprises, and an abundance of swoon.  The male characters she creates are some of my top, all time favorite book boyfriends, and her sense of setting is usually very prominent as well.

Take a Chance, by Abbi Glines, is the first book in the Chance Series, and the 6th story in the Rosemary Beach Series.  I am a huge fan of the Rosemary Beach Series, and was thrilled to be able to read and review this installment.  In Take a Chance, we get Grant, and Harlow's stories told from their dual perspectives.  I was introduced to Grant in Fallen too Far, and he became one of my favorite characters early on.  I loved how Grant was a very loyal, and caring person.  He was a significant part of Rush's support system, and eventually Blaire's also.  I loved what I knew about Grant.  However, I didn't really learn about Grant until this story.  He preferred to have a good time, and sleep around with a variety of women.  Grant didn't do attachments or commitment.  Growing up,he saw his father's dysfunctional love life, and this was a part of the reason that he shied away from relationships.  However, when he became friends with Harlow, he learned that there was so much more to her than her outer beauty.  She was special, and she made him feel things that he had never felt for another woman before.

Harlow was forced to live with her horrible, bitter, jealous, and angry half sister, Nan, while her father Kiro went on tour.  When she first met Grant she was very attracted to him, and found him charismatic and charming.  However, when she realized that he had been with her hateful half-sister, she didn't want anything to do with him.  Grant had never felt needed by anyone, and Nan made him feel that way.  Also, Grant was one of those guys that liked being the "knight in shinning armor," but eventually he wised up when he realized that Nan couldn't be saved.  Grant saw something special in Harlow, and he was determined to gain her trust and friendship.  Along the way, it was hard for Harlow to resist the sweet talker, but she had her own relationship demons to contend with, after seeing what a womanizer her rockstar father was, and how he had just used women for his own pleasure her whole life.

Take a Chance was a superb story.  I loved seeing what Harlow brought out in Grant.  He become vulnerable, protective, very sweet, attentive, and completely captivated by her.  He also showed more alpha male characteristics, as he became jealous, possessive, and staked his claim on Harlow.  I could feel the depth of his emotion, and passion throughout the story.  I really connected with and loved Harlow's character.  She was humble, unassuming, caring, conservative, and introverted.  She loved to read, and would lock herself in her room with her Kindle, when she wanted to be alone.  Grant brought out a very different side to her, that only he was privy to.  He made her feel sexy, attractive, and wanted.  He brought out a wild side in her when they were intimate, and it was like night and day compared to how others saw her.  These two had intense sexual chemistry, and coupled with their deep emotion and feeling for each other, this story became one very hot, sexy, and swoon-worthy adventure!

The plot was filled with twists, and secrets!  I grew attached to secondary characters, Mase, Harlow's brother, and my heart broke for Bethy, and Kiro in different scenes in the story.  I was thrilled to get plenty of Rush and Blaire in this segment, as well as, a little bit of Woods and Della.  Of course, Nan was back with a vengeance, and while I'm never happy to see her, she sure has a way of making things interesting.  I'm looking forward to continuing Grant and Harlow's story.  I am also hoping that Mase will get his own story.  Not only is he  a hot Texan Cowboy, but he is also a really great guy, that I would like to learn more about.

My Rating:

I give, Take a Chance, by Abbi Glines, 4.5 Sweet Talking, Heart Melting, Sexy Screaming, Swoon Worthy Stars!  Abbi Glines fans will be pleased with this installment!  Read this story for relatable, well rounded characters, and an interesting, fast paced, and unpredictable story plot, as well as scorching hot, swoon-worthy, and emotional love scenes!

My Favorite Quotes:

"Three kinds of women in this world.  The kind that sucks you dry and leave you with nothing.  The kind that only wants a good time.  And the kind that makes life worth a damn.  The last kind...the right woman's the one who gives as much as she takes, and you can't get enough.  She's the kind...if you lose her, you lose yourself."  (Pg. 6)

~Kiro

"Your date with Adam haunts me.  I can't stand the idea of him touching you, Grant's finger trailed down my bare arm.  I don't do possessive and crazy.  Never have.  But you...I want to wrap you up and run off with you so no one can touch you again.  Just me.  Always me."  (Pg. 119)

~Grant

"When I was inside you for the first time I realized I had found something I'd  never felt, and it was terrifying.  The pleasure wasn't shallow and I wasn't untouched.  Something inside me turned over and I became addicted.  To you.  I don't have any other explanation for you right now.  But never compare yourself to anyone else I've ever been with because you're all I want and all I see."  (Pg. 175-176)

  1. I love the sound of Harlow and Grant sounds like some great chemistry. I have never tried Glines, but I did pick up book one in the Rosemary Beach series. I didn't realize this was book 1 and six, I kind of like that. Great review Lindy!

  3. I have to admit that I've only read one of Abby's books so far. I might have to try this series next! I love the sounds of Grant, the fact that he can be vulnerable and show he's feeling, but also be a little alpha male sounds like the perfect mix! (let's face it, who doesn't like have their guy be a little jealous lol)
