ABRAHAM DAVIS—Honest Abe to his friends—IS IN OVER HIS HEAD...

He’s a fixer and a do good-er. The all-knowing, resident "grandfather" on the wrestling team who everyone relies on to fix their problems. His teammates go to him for everything; advice, homework, or when they need a sober driver at three in the morning--whether he likes it or not.

Abe’s current mission is easy: mend his roommates broken heart by helping him find a girlfriend on the LoveU app--without getting caught in the lie...

SKYLAR GABRIEL. IS. OVER. IT.

Over her bad grades. Over her meddling older brother and his two best friends. And over dating douchebags. What she wants to know is: where have all the nice guys gone?

She longs for a handsome, sweet, and honest guy who can make her laugh. In one last ditch effort to prove that he exists—Skylar turns to LoveU.

On her worst day, Skylar has no filter (it’s a miracle she hasn’t been ditched mid-date). On her best, she’s as wholesome, and sweet, as pie. On Thursday? She matches with Abraham Davis’s roommate.

Skylar Gabriel is falling for the wrong guy—she just doesn’t realize it yet.

Review:

The How to Date a Douchebag Series is where it all started for me! The Studying Hours (HtDaD, #1) was my first book by Sara Ney and I never looked back! I have read every single one of her books and she's in my top five favorite authors. If you are looking for a fun, sexy and unputdownable read, look no further! Sara Ney always delivers the laughs, the sexiness and all the feels!

I was really excited to find out that one of my favorite series of all times was getting another book. I was really sad when I read the last words of The Coaching Hours (HtDaD, #4) thinking it was my last reading escape in this super fun world Sara Ney created. When I learned that the series was continuing, I was over the moon excited!!!

I really enjoyed The Lying Hours. From the fun texting between Skylar and Abe to the awesome supporting cast of characters, this was a reading escape that had me turning the pages from beginning to end! It was fun to see Skylar Gabriel and Abe Davies interact on the LoveU app. Skylark is so over dating douchebags. She wants to find a good guy and Abe Davies is exactly what she's looking for. The only problem is she thinks he's someone else. Abe is caught in a major lie when he tries to help his friend on the LoveU app. He meets Skylar and the last thing he wants is to see her go out on a date with his friend. Skylar Gabriel is falling for him. She just doesn't know it yet. What will happen when Abe's lie is revealed?

Skylar and Abe had an amazing chemistry and it was entertaining to see them get to know each other. Skylar was a fun heroine that knew exactly what she wanted. Abe was a sweetheart and I have to admit that he's one of my favorites in this series. I was super excited when my favourite douchebag of them all made an appearance in this book. I won't spoil it for fans of this series, but trust me that you will love every minute of his role in this story. I also really liked Hannah. She's Skylar's best friend and she's hilarious!!!! We all need a Hannah in our lives!

The Lying Hours was an awesome reading journey that left me with a smile on my face! I am so glad that this series is not over and I can't wait for my next reading journey with the DtDaD crew. If you have not read anything by Sara Ney yet, you are seriously missing out!

Synopsis:

He’s not a douchebag;
but that doesn’t stop his friends from
turning him into one.

MY FRIENDS WANT ME TO GET LAID.

So much so that they plastered my ugly mug all over campus, in bold printed letters:

Are you the lucky lady who’s going to break our roommate’s cherry? Him: socially awkward man with average-sized penis looking for willing sexual partner. You: must have pulse. Text him at: 555-254-5551

The morons can’t even spell. And the texts I’ve been receiving are what wet dreams are made of. But I’m not like these douchebags, no matter how hard they try to turn me into one.

THIS ISN’T THE KIND OF ATTENTION I WANT.

One text stands out from hundreds. One number I can’t bring myself to block. She seems different. Hotter, even in black and white.

However, after seeing her in person, I know she’s not the girl for me. But my friends won’t let up—they just don't get it. Douchebags or not, there's one thing they'll never understand: GIRLS DON’T WANT ME.

Especially her.

Excerpt:

He’s seated at a table in the far corner when I spot him from the door. He’s not hard to miss—not with his purple t-shirt in a sea of black and yellow, and wavy mussed hair.

He’s slouching, hunched over his table.

Defeated. Tired.

My stomach rolls with nerves, nerves that have me rooted to the spot in the doorway, watching him.

Just watching.

For the entire four minutes I stand here, he sits immobile, studying his laptop, eyes moving along the screen, completely transfixed by whatever he’s reading.

Learning.

“Just go over there,” I whisper to myself, blowing out a puff of pent-up air.

I put one foot in front of the other and begin toward him, spine ramrod straight, steeling myself, prepared for another argument.

Twenty feet.

Fifteen.

Eight.

Two.

“Hi.”

No reply.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” I lay my hand on the back of the wooden chair across from him, intending to pull it out.

He stiffens but doesn’t lift his head. “Yes I mind.”

“Would you mind if I sat at the table next to you?” I’m pushing his buttons, looking for a reaction, but he only spares me a brief glance.

Shrugs. “Free country.”

I bite my lip to hide a smile, glad he didn’t tell me to take a hike...

Book Review: Until Alex by J. Nathan

Until Alex

by
J. Nathan
Pub June 17th 2014
by Author Self Pub
ARC for Review

Summary

On the outside, Hayden is every girl's fantasy, brooding and devastatingly gorgeous. He spends his nights losing himself in alcohol and faceless girls, but it's all just a facade. An elaborate cover for the emotionless shell of a man he is. One who harbors too many secrets and destroys lives the way his was destroyed. It’s the reason he avoids relationships and keeps everyone at arm's length…

Until Alex

Alex’s life just shattered into a million pieces, leaving her with more grief than she knows what to do with and guilt so deep it’s destroyed the carefree girl she once was. Now she’s hundreds of miles from home, living with an aunt she doesn't know, finishing senior year at a college she’s never been to, and trying desperately to get through a single day without breaking down. She's never felt more alone in her life...

Until Hayden

The trouble with Hayden is who he wants to be and who he is are in constant flux. And though he’d die before letting Alex learn the truth about him, he can’t be sure he's strong enough to let her in…or push her away. She’s the one person who just might see the real him.

When Souls Are Destined They Will Not Be Denied

As far as contemporary new adult is concerned Finding Alex is super swell. I really enjoyed this read. The main characters Alex & Hayden have experienced some pretty earth shattering situations. I wasn’t sure whether I would like this title or not but I can honestly say I was delightfully surprised. Hayden and Alex’s personalities were to die for! They had me eating up everything they said! Nathan’s writing was very entertaining and engaging. Until Alex played like a movie reel in my head and I did not want to put the pages down. This is a standalone I believe but would not be surprised if down the line we see more of this power duo.

U-ncertainty, Hayden has been alone for most of his life taking care of himself but something about the new stranger in his life is pulling at his emotions.
N-otorious, Alex knows the guy next door isn’t the type of person she should affiliate with but being near him brings her a sense of peace like no other. Something about him affects her in a deep unexplainable way.
T-rust, as much as Hayden wants to change he knows he cannot let down Remy. These two have been friends a very long time and Hayden would never betray what he and Remy have.
I-llusion, Alex has seen so much of Hayden’s hot and cold act she can’t take it anymore. Just when she is ready to cut all ties with him a near tragic event will have these two colliding again.
L-oss, the thought of not having Alex in his life is enough to make Hayden re-think everything and he will fight for her and protect her.

A-lone, knowing how unpredictable life is and that at a moment’s notice everything could fall apart or end suddenly Hayden will do the unthinkable.
L-ove, somewhere along the way Hayden and Alex realized that they belong together. Something stronger than the both of them has made their paths and hearts unite. Knowing this they will fight and do what it takes to be together.
E-xchange, the person no one suspected became Alex’s greatest danger. Hayden knows where his heart lies and all of the fallacies of his past have come to light. Things have changed drastically and Hayden will surprise those closest to him for his one true love.
X-citing, lol x is a tough one cut me some slack ;) Alex and Hayden have endured so much pain throughout their lives but being together happy and in love ready to embark on a new adventure is all they can think about. Together these two are ready to face whatever comes their way.

The ending was full of action till the near last pages. Nathan closed this story nicely but not every t was crossed or every i dotted. Nothing that really took away from the story but some of the side events weren’t closed. Some of the characters just basically disappeared and I like to know what happens with everyone I read about. Like I said nothing crazy but I did experience a couple of hm I wonder what happens with so and so? Other than that I thought the end was solid. Over all this was an enjoyable read. Nathan provides a fresh and fun new voice that I could not get enough of, her characters were absolutely delightful. Did this puncture my heart into my inner core? No. It didn’t have to though because all throughout I was entertained.

My Rating

Summary
The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

Lindy's Thoughts

This is my first book written by K.A. Tucker.  My co-bloggers, Ria and Mikki, love her writing so much.  So when I got the opportunity to read and review, Burying Water; I snatched it up!  I was completely enthralled by Burying Water.  This story hooked me from the very beginning, and didn't let me go!  The story begins in the present, and flashes to the past every other chapter.

A young woman wakes up in the hospital completely broken. She has been beaten to within an inch of her life.  She is missing teeth, has broken body parts, a large scar down her face, and has been sexually assaulted.  She was pregnant, but lost her baby from the trauma to her body.  When she miraculously wakes up, she doesn't remember her name, her life history, how, why, or by whom she was beaten, or any minute detail of who she is.  She feels completely lost, and desperate to remember her life.  She is befriended and grows close to her surgeon, Meredith Welles, Meredith's husband Gabe, who is the town's Sheriff, and the Welles' daughter, Amber (who is her nurse.)  These three people become her substitute family, along with a crotchety and reclusive little old lady named Ginny, who is the Welles' neighbor.

When the hospital discharges the young woman, she is offered a place to stay with Ginny.  She grows to love the woman dearly, along with the Welles' very much.  Gabe helps her get her license after she chooses a new name for herself.  She decides to go by "Water," because she has a tattoo on her body with the symbol, and it feels significant to her.  The Welles' son Jesse, only comes home on the weekends and keeps his distance.  Yet, "Water" can't help but feel drawn to him.  Not only is she attracted to him, but he feels familiar to her somehow.  She draws comfort and security from his presence as well. Who tried to kill Water, and Why?  Is she still in danger?  Why is she blocking out her past?  What does she not want to remember?

Burying Water was a suspenseful thrill ride.  It started of slowly, then built momentum as we learned piece by piece what happened in her past, as well as present.  The characters were excellent.  They were memorable, beautifully developed, and touched my heat.  I grew to love Ginny.  She made "Water" feel safe, secure, and eventually loved.  Meredith was so sweet, nurturing, and supportive to Water, and Amber was a good friend.  Jesse of course, was my favorite character.  I can't telly you why without ruining the story, but suffice it to say that I fell in love with him while reading this story.  I was excited to read about the beautiful and romantic love story told as well; proving that the heart will always recognize and be drawn to it's true love, even if the mind cannot remember.

My Rating

I give Burying Water, by K.A. Tucker, 4.5 Enthralling, Thrilling, "Love Will Find A Way," Filled Stars!  Read this story!  You will be hooked from the first page to the very last!!!

My Favorite Quote

"If you wait long enough, the truth always finds its way.  Just like that stream.  Just like water."  (eARC, Loc. 4743)

~Jesse

Truth is Water and Water is Truth
I can’t I just can't right now. Talk about a mess! My heart…So.Many.Feels. I feel like I’m going to explode right now. Water and Jesse!

Gah!

Burying Water was phenomenal. Its no secret that I’m a huge fan of Ms. Tucker this book cements all of the feels. I can’t WAIT to see whats next in what promises to be an amazing new series. This book is nothing like the TTB series but still has all of the versatile and authentically real characters that I’ve come to expect from Ms Tucker. This is told in two POVs one past and one present…I loved it! Way to kick butt with this! It fit perfectly with the story and added to the mystery. Get ready for a tailspin of events that will have you up all night page, after page, on the edge of your seat. One-click this baby for sure I’m so pumped you have no idea.

B-leak, Jane Doe can’t remember who she is and that frightens her fiercely. All she knows is her mind is protecting her from the pain of her past.
U-ncertain, being in a hospital and surrounded by kind people seems to be Jane’s life. Though she hates the name it will have to do for now.
R-esolution, with no where to go after meeting the eccentric Ginny Fitzpatrick Jane is given the opportunity for a fresh start.
Y-esterday, fragments of nightmares from the past lay just at the edges of Jane’s memories.
I-ridescent, walking towards the lake is like finding a piece of herself. Jane knows in her heart Water should be her name. Like a piece falling into the puzzle she accepts the comfort it provides.
N-ews, the past is so scary and Water can’t understand why no one is looking for her but the friendships and bonds she is creating soothe her heart and bring her a sense of happiness.
G-inny, through several conversations Water begins to realize this is where she belongs and if her mind doesn’t yield to the past then so be it.

W-aking, like a geyser bursting part of the truth is not enough to hold back the mountains of lies accumulated.
A-lone, Water realizes that the bond she and Ginny have formed goes way beyond that of someone helping around the property.
T-rust, secrets are out and Water never would have imagined how dangerous and twisted things had gotten.
E-ntrust, Jesse has Water’s heart she gave it to him and though her mind blocked him out her heart stayed true.
R-epairs, Water would have never imagined being in a place like three sisters. Surrounded by people who love her with bits and pieces still missing. Though, now that she has come to a point where she can accept things as they are, her life is as it should be and she couldn’t have picked a better place.

Ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, sad tears, happy tears, some the size of my head. That happened several times towards the end of the book. My stomach was clenched and my heart inside my throat!

I tried really hard not to spoil anything so I apologize if my acrostic review is a little vague. Trust me when I say you will want to experience this read for yourself..Every.Shocking.Word. Did I love it YES!! Do I recommend it HECK YES!! Gah so many feels right now! Though the ending was sad it held a lot of joy as well. A chapter closed while new life began through a difficult road full of pain and darkness. Nothing could have stopped Water’s resilient spirit and I’m in awe! There where several secondary characters that captured my heart, some I was weary of, and one that I wanted to rip his throat out(preferably like Rick did to that one guy last season of Waking Dead). I cried for some, I jumped for joy at others, and some surprised me, ahem Boone but everything was as it should be. Bravo I love this new series to bits and can’t wait to see whats next.

My Favs
Water
As you will find out bit by bit things are not as they seem. Water was young and foolish by walking right into the lions den. Somehow throughout all of the pain she has kept her amazing spirit and capacity to love. My heart broke for her situation and was happy to see her embrace a new life. The way she was with people was endearing and the bonds she created were everlasting. I see why the name Water works, it truly is a powerful force and so is she.

Jesse
He is who he is, not shy to admit he’s a normal guy. Talented but happy with life until one night everything changes and sets him down a path of choices. Sure he made mistakes but when it came time to act he was there without a doubt. He risked everything for Water and would do it time and time again. These two absolutely belong together!

My Fav Quote
“The mind, it can be a deceitful thing. But it is no match for the heart.” ~Kindle(Loc 5029)

My Rating
4.5 Flat, Dress, Kiss, Club, Shop, Project, Restoration, Storm, Phone Call, Hotel Room, Mistakes, Exams, Felix, Felix, Felix, Felix, Ginny, White Oak, Red Barn, Green Mustang, A Love worth fighting and dying for filled stars! MUST READ!!! Do it!!

Review

I remember when I read my first K.A. Tucker book. The cover of Ten Tiny Breaths, the first installment of her Ten Tiny Breaths Series, was catching my attention every time I used to see it on my FB news feed or on a blog. It took me less than one chapter to get hooked on her writing style. It's PHENOMENAL!!!

''Water'' wakes up in a hospital as a ''Jane Doe''. She has no memory of her past life. The only thing that she knows is that the person who did this to her wanted her dead. But why? With the help of the Welles family, she finds a place to stay where she can begin her healing journey. With a new identity in hand, Water stars doing daily things that make her happy. When Jesse Welles enters her life, she can't help but feel a connection to him. As days go by, Jesse and Water grow closer, but memories from her past start to come back to her. Will she be ready to find out who she really is and what happened to her?

This is how I start all of my reading escapes with a book written by K.A. Tucker...

Here. You can take my heart and do whatever you want with it. I trust you! I know that every single time I open one of her books I am in for a roller coaster ride of emotions. Her characters feel so real and every chapter is bursting with details that brings the story to life. She's in my top favourite authors and since it's Thanksgiving day, here in Canada, I just want to take a moment to say that I'm so grateful to have discovered this amazing author!

Burying Water, which is the first installment in her brand new series, was absolutely breathtaking! When I read a book, I don't only want to read  the story, I want to feel it as well! Once again, K.A. Tucker has written a spectacular story. Water and Jesse's journey was captivating. I read it in one sitting because I simply could not put it down!

I connected with Water and Jesse right from the start. Their chemistry was unbelievable and all the little details that surround their relationship were heartwarming. Their love story is beautifully written. I smiled and I cried with them. My heart was beating fast and my stomach was in knots. I was cheering for them to find that HEA that they both deserved.

I really loved all the supporting characters in Burying Water. From the loving Welleses' family to the wickedly funny Ginny Fitzgerald, they all brought their touch of awesomeness to this story. The next installment, which will be Becoming Rain, comes out next year. I can't wait to read it! I really liked Jesse's friend, Luke, in Burying Water. I'm crossing my fingers that Amber, Jesse's sister, will get her own book. I really liked her character and the way she took care of Water.

Rating

I give, Burying Water, by K.A. Tucker 5 intense, memorable, intriguing, emotional, healing stars!

Jesse

Then

It’s a tentative kiss at first, her lips lightly sweeping across mine without committing entirely, but it gets my blood rushing all the same. I can’t say that I’ve ever kissed a woman without seeing her face first. It’s both unnerving and strangely liberating. If she looks anything like her lips feel, then I’m kissing a supermodel right now.
Finally she finds her place, her lips slightly parted as they gently work against mine, each one of her ragged breaths like an intoxicating spell as they slip into my mouth alongside her tongue. I don’t even care about the rain or the cold or getting home anymore, too busy fighting the urge to loose my hands on her. But I don’t know why the fuck she’s doing this and I’m a suspicious person by nature. So, I ball my fists and keep my arms to my sides while her mouth slowly teases mine and her hand grasps the side of my face.
Just when I’m ready to give up on my mistrust and pull her into me, she suddenly breaks free, her short, hard pants dispelling her calm. She steps back, taking the shield of her umbrella with her. The cold rain is a semi-effective douse to the heat coursing through my body.
“Thank you.”
I smile into the darkness. “No big deal. Tires take me no time.”
“I wasn’t talking about the tire.” She’s smiling too. I can hear it in her soft words.
With my mouth hanging open, I watch her silhouette round the car. In one fluid motion, she folds her umbrella up and slides into the driver’s seat.
And I’m left standing here, wondering what the hell just happened. She doesn’t know what I look like either. We could pass each other on the sidewalk and we’d never know.
Maybe that’s the point.
Shaking my head, I dart back to my car, my clothes soaked and my mind thoroughly mystified. She may be sweet but if she goes around kissing strange men on the side of the road, no wonder she has regrets. I hope regrets are the worst thing she ever has to deal with.
True to my word, I tail her for eight miles, my fingers testing my lips as I recall the feel of hers against them, until she signals toward one of Portland’s richer areas. A big part of me wants to turn off and follow her the rest of the way. Just so I know who she is.
I have my hand on the turn signal. But at the last minute, I pull back and keep heading straight. Regrets have a tendency to spread when you tie yourself to the wrong kind of person. I’ve learned that the hard way.
I hope she finds what she’s looking for.
