GR's Summary:

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

She is seeking escape.

Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

Together, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.

For it to work, both of them will need to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

My Thoughts:

Off Chance is the first book I've read by Sawyer Bennett.  I've been dying to read this series for quite a while.  For one thing the book covers are mega sexy!  Then on top of that, a few of my blogger buddies, have really enjoyed these books, and their excitement for this series completely sparked my interest.  Before I began reading, I had high expectations for Off Chance, and was worried that this book would not meet my extremely high expectations.  However, the moment I began this story, I started to fall for Flynn Caldwell.  Flynn has known great heartbreak and loss, when he suffered the loss of his first love, Marnie, to a tragic house fire.  He blamed himself for not being able to help her, decided to become a fireman, and do everything in his power to help as many people as possible.  Flynn had a hero complex, was known for taking dangerous risks in his professional life, and always going after women that needed to be "fixed" in his personal life.

One day when Flynn is on the job, he rescues an unconscious woman who was handcuffed to a bed during a house fire.  The woman, Rowen, was drugged and held prisoner by her ex-boyfriend, Juice, an infamous and dangerous drug dealer.  After the rescue, Rowen finds herself homeless, and with nothing.  She can't locate her dog, Capone, who she loves dearly.  Flynn offers to help her find her dog, and she accepts his help reluctantly.  After Capone is found, Flynn offers Rowen his guest bedroom, and some help so that she can get back on her feet.  He's an honorable, caring, and compassionate man.  However Rowen doesn't trust that his intentions are pure.  Rowen is hard around the edges, cynical, skeptical of people helping out of the goodness of their hearts, and doesn't trust anyone.  Flynn is drawn to Rowan, and just wants to help, yet he can tell how stubborn and distrusting she is.  He uses her dog, Capone's safety and comfort, as a way to get her to agree to stay in his guest bedroom.  She agree's to stay with Flynn on the condition that it's temporary, and while she stays there she will earn her keep.

Flynn was an extremely likable character.  He was the kind of guy that had the loyalty of good friends and a close family.  Everyone respected him, and worried that he would get taken advantage of, and get his heart broken, because he stuck his neck out repeatedly to help others.  I enjoyed learning a little bit of the back stories from such an interesting cast of secondary characters.  I am now eager to read Flynn's sister, Renner and Cillian's story, as well as the rest of Flynn's family and friend's stories.

I enjoyed seeing that the more time Flynn spent with Rowan, the more her hard edges started to disappear, and soften.  Rowan had a dysfunctional family background, and had felt rejected, and not loved by her parents.  The effects of this rejection played a pivotal role in her personal life.  She was so closed off and guarded that it took a man with patience, compassion, and sensitivity, to see past the outward facade she portrayed.  Flynn was the perfect man for the job!  I loved the way Flynn and Rowan built a strong foundation of friendship before they got involved.  The story played out beautifully, and realistically between these two.  Readers will appreciate the slow burn between Rowan and Flynn as they exchange a glance or accidentally touch with one another.  Their chemistry was intense and smoldering hot!  Rowan had a lot of baggage to contend with, and Flynn's past haunted him, but together, these two healed, and became better people for having one another in their lives.

My Rating:

I give Off Chance, by Sawyer Bennett, 4 Passionate, Intimate, Healing, and Learning What Real Love is Stars!  Off Chance was the perfect mixture of passion, intrigue, love, and romance!  Flynn and Rowen are memorable characters, and you will love their story.  You do not want to miss this book!  I went back and bought the rest of the Off Series, and can't wait to dive right in!!!

My Favorite Quotes:

"But this look she's giving me now?  It makes me want it all...badly.  It makes me ache with desire to just hold her, not in a friendly fashion but not in a sexual fashion.  I want to hold her intimately, and have her pour out all of her pain to me.  I want to take care of her, and covet her, and make everything in her life better.  Not because I think she's broken, but because she makes me a better person and I want to honor that."  (eARC, Loc. 1868)

~Flynn

"I hold Rowan's body in my hands, but more importantly I hold her heart.  She's guarded it fiercely and now she's opened the door to it and invited me in.  The responsibility is huge and while I have no clue what the future holds for us, I know I'll never intentionally hurt her."  (eARC, Loc. 2784)

~Flynn

"I reach my hand up and grab her hair, pulling back so her head raises up.  I look at her somberly.  You deserve the world, Rowan.  The entire fu*king world should belong to you." (eARC, Loc. 3090)

~Flynn
