GR's Summary:

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Driven series.

One Night. That's all it was supposed to be.

Reeling from the sudden loss of her sister, Haddie Montgomery has sworn off relationships. All she wanted from Beckett Daniels was a sexy distraction to help her escape her pain for just a little while....There weren’t supposed to be any strings attached—so why can’t she shake the memory of that unforgettable night from her thoughts? Or the taste of his kiss from her lips?

No matter how hard Haddie tries to forget about him, Becks relentlessly tries to prove that she should start living for today. But she is determined to avoid romantic commitment, and she can always use her ex-boyfriend’s reappearance to help snuff out the slow burn within her that Becks has sparked....

Or will fate force her to realize that this kind of connection doesn’t come along very often and a chance at love is worth the risk?

My Thoughts:

The Driven Series has been a whirlwind of passion, depth, memorable characters, and talented story telling. I have rapidly devoured each of these books, always anticipating, and wishing for the next one in the series. I would like to mention that Ms. Bromberg's writing style really stands out to me. She has an elegant and effortless way of telling a story. Her prose are poignant, and her characters are beautifully real. They stand out among the masses, and as a reader, you cannot help but love them, and relate to their humanity.

In Slow Burn, we get Haddie Montgomery and Beckett Daniels' story from their alternating view points. Beckett is Colton Donovan's best friend and Haddie is Rylee Thomas' best friend, who are the main characters from the previous books in the Driven Series.  In Slow Burn, Haddie and Beckett, move out of Colton and Rylee's shadow, and take center stage. From their story, readers experience a beautiful and emotional addition to an amazing series, that has surpassed my every hope and expectation.

Haddie and Beckett have known each other for over a year. However, Beckett is not Haddie's type. She usually goes for bad boys, and Beckett is the epitome of a southern gentlemen. He's good looking, has a great body, and is very charming, but she has never had anything more with him than a friendship. On the night that her best friend ties the knot, Haddie see's Beckett in a different light. She notices him as an attractive man, and she isn't sure what it is, but she is drawn to him. Beckett has always been attracted to Haddie, but has never acted on it. When Haddie and Beckett get intoxicated, their walls come down, and they give in to the temptation of a one night stand.

Haddie is dealing with the devastating death of her older sister, Lexi, and has a "no strings" policy when it comes to relationships. However, she cannot stop thinking and daydreaming about Beckett, and the amazing night that they spent together. Beckett wants to pursue a relationship with Haddie. As far as he's concerned she's the full package the "Macallan" of Scotch. Now, he just has to convince Haddie, that she is the one for him. Will he be able to destroy the walls she has erected around her heart, and get her to dismiss her "No Strings," policy?

Slow Burn was an emotional story. I cried, my heart broke, and my heart healed. I fell in love with Beckett, a man that was everything that any woman would be lucky to have.  Haddie was extremely selfless, and I admired her grit, gumption, and sassy attitude.  The passion and heat between Beckett and Haddie was palpable. The frenzy of their desire's blossomed in to a beautiful love, and a breathtaking story.

Colton and Rylee were prominent characters in this story, and were great friends to Beckett and Haddie. It was interesting watching the role reversal, and I loved the way they cherished their friendships, and were so loyal and supportive to those they cared about. The next story in the series, Sweet Ache, is going to be Colton's sister, Quinlan's story. She wasn't in Slow Burn, and I missed her. I can't wait to watch her get her happily ever after!

My Rating:

I give Slow Burn, by K. Bromberg, 5 Tantalizing, Toe Curling, Teary-Eyed, Emotion Filled Stars! Slow Burn can be read as a stand alone, although I would highly recommend reading the whole series! It is one of the best Adult Romance Series' that I have read, and stands proudly on my favorite's shelf, where I place the books that I treasure the most, and have strongly impacted my life.

My Favorite Quote:

"I'll pick you every time, Haddie. Scars, inability to have kids, bald, sick, emotional...you're beautiful to me. Every single way. I'll still pick you every goddamn time."

~Beckett

Author K. Bromberg is that reserved woman sitting in the corner, who has you all fooled about the wild child inside of her—the one she lets out every time her fingertips touch the computer keyboard. Her motto is ‘have lap-top, will travel’ because she writes around school drop offs, entertaining her four year old (who is still not in school full time), homework battles, and endless soccer practices. When she needs a break from the daily chaos of her life, you can most likely find her with her Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good, saucy book.
