Synopsis:

Luke Boone doesn't know exactly what his uncle Rust is involved in but he wants in on it-the cars, the money, the women. And it looks like he's finally getting his wish. When Rust hands him the managerial keys to the garage, they come with a second set-one that opens up the door to tons of cash and opportunity. Though it's not exactly legal, Luke's never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.

Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game-at only twenty-six years old, she's one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington D.C. major crime unit, and she's just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the west coast's most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she'll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle's footsteps.

As Clara drifts deeper into the luxurious lifestyle of Rain, and further into the arms of her very attractive and charming target, the lines between right and wrong start to blur, making her wonder if she'll be able to leave it all behind. Or if she'll even want to.

Our Reviews of Burying Water HERE

Lindy's Thoughts:

The Burying Water Series has been reminiscent of my favorite television show, Law and Order!  It's filled with crime, danger, malicious intent, suspense, plot-twists, and dramatic on the edge of your seat type story-telling!  This series is perfect for people that are interested in the underbelly of the crime world.  I think both of the books in this series would make excellent movies!

In Becoming Rain, we get Luke Boone and Clara Bertelli's story told from their dual perspectives.  Luke was a secondary character in Burying Water.  He was raised by his Uncle Rust, who was a mentor, role model, and surrogate father figure to Luke.  Unfortunately, Rust is a leader of one of the West Coast's largest auto theft rings.  He has business ties to the Russian Mafia, and is living large in a luxury filled lifestyle.  Luke wants the same lifestyle as his uncle.  He has been bidding his time, by following his uncle's orders to work in one of Rust's legitimate businesses, as a car mechanic.  When the time is right, Rust promises to bring him in to his business dealings.  Luke is excited when Rust informs him that he's finally ready to start getting Luke involved in his business empire.

Clara Bertelli is a young, ambitious, and hard-working police officer.  Her dream is to be accepted in to the FBI academy, but without the right connections, it's difficult to be chosen.  She is asked to go undercover, and get Luke's trust, so that she can help the FBI take down Rust and everyone involved in his auto theft business.  If she is successful in this job, she will get the referral that she needs to get in to the FBI academy.  However, what she couldn't imagine was the fact that she would fall in love with Luke Boone, the very man she is hired to betray.

Becoming Rain was a great story!  I loved learning about the day in and day out operations of undercover police work.  I found it highly fascinating.  Equally interesting was learning about the various criminals, their lifestyles, and how they did business.  The forbidden attraction and feelings that Clara "Rain" began to develop towards Luke, made for an entertaining and addicting storyline!  I found myself hoping that Luke would realize the error of his ways before it was too late, and hopeful that he would get to end up with Clara.

Becoming Rain had many complex layers to the plot.  We get Clara and Luke, who are both good-hearted, but make many mistakes; Clara as an undercover police officer, and Luke in his involvement with illegal activities.  We get a romance, with a lot of intense chemistry, and evolving feelings, as well as all of the characters and operations involved in both the FBI, and criminal undertakings.  All of these elements made for an extremely entertaining read!

My Rating:

I give, Becoming Rain, by K.A. Tucker, 4 Fascinating, Undercover Facade, Chemistry-Charged, Criminal Filled Stars!  I'm excited to continue this series, and see who and what the next story, Chasing River, will be about!

Mikki's Review:

I have been anxiously waiting for the release of Becoming Rain from the moment I knew that Luke was going to get his own book. I really loved the role he played in Burying Water. He was a very interesting supporting character in the story. I was curious to see where is decisions of wanting to be more involved in his uncle’s business would lead him. This second installment, in the Burying Water Series, was very different from the first one, but equally intense and packed with unexpected twists.

Becoming Rain is the story of Clara Bertelli and Luke Boone. Luke is finally getting the recognition he deserves at his uncle’s garage. He wants it all. The money, the cars and the power. What he never expected was for lies, secrets and betrayals to take over his life. Clara is an undercover cop who has the mission to bring down a powerful car theft ring. As an undercover cop, she has lived many different situations that have put her life in danger. When she meets Luke Boone she has no idea that not only her life will be in danger, but her heart as well. Luke turns out to be captivating and very different from the person she expected him to be. As days go by, Clara is getting closer to solving the biggest case of her career. Will she be able to walk away from Luke once her mission is accomplished without leaving a piece of her heart behind?

I really enjoyed reading Becoming Rain. It felt like I was reading a different series even if some characters from the previous book made an appearance. I loved seeing Alex and Jesse again! I love these two to pieces!!! This book could be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend both books. K.A. Tucker’s writing style is absolutely breathtaking! You feel everything single emotions that the characters feel. My heart was beating furiously when the time came for Clara and Luke to have ‘’The Confrontation’’. I had an idea that it was going to be very intense, but Oh my God!!! My heart completely broke for Luke! I just wanted to reach inside the book and give him a big hug and whisper words of comfort to him. That was something he never saw coming.

Clara had a very difficult role to play. She mixed business with pleasure and she got burned. She knew that getting close to Luke was dangerous. The more time passed, the more she fell for him. He really got under her skin. She got the chance to see who the real Luke was. That is who she fell in love with. I loved the slow building romance between Clara and Luke. My connection with both these characters was instant. I really felt like I knew these characters by the end of the book. Their life journey was very well explained and reading from both their POV’s was simply amazing! It’s such a wonderful gift to us readers to be able to know exactly how both characters are living their journey. This story was packed with little details and it kept me glued to my seat from beginning to end!

Becoming Rain was a memorable reading escape with amazing characters and it was beautifully written. I’m crossing my fingers that Warner will get his own book. I loved his role in Becoming Rain! He's such a fascinating character!

Rating:

I give, Becoming Rain, by K.A. Tucker, 4.5 suspenseful, page-turning, complicated, intriguing stars!
