GR's Summary:

You don’t know when…

You don’t get to choose if…

When it’s time to join… you’ll know.

You might think you want to be a member—but trust me this is one club you don’t want to join. It’s not a place where people go to live out their deepest, darkest sexual desires—there are no handcuffs or blindfolds.

The 27 Club only admits those who die young and tragically. My brother was recently bestowed membership and joined many of our ancestors before him. I know I’m next. This is my destiny, and I was ready to yield.

But then I met Nate. He awakened a sensuality in me that had never been explored, never satisfied. I knew then I could no longer accept my destiny. Nate’s presence controls me. I’m overwhelmed by his touch, his words; my every thought is consumed by desire. I believe he was brought into my life for a reason.

Nate doesn’t believe in destiny. But I do. And if there’s a way to cheat it—I must.

Lindy's Thoughts:

I am a huge Kim Karr fan!  Her Connections Series is one of my all-time favorite romances, and she is on my auto-buy list.  When I saw the sexy and alluring book cover for The 27 Club, and read the mysterious book summary, this book jumped to the top of my TBR.  The 27 Club has a unique storyline, full of mystery, eroticism, seduction, and anticipation.  Zoey and Nate were interesting characters, that I enjoyed learning about.

The 27 Club is Zoey's story.  Zoey and her older brother, Zack, were extremely close.  They were raised by their sickly grandmother, Mimi, and only had each other.  While Zoey took care of her grandmother, and worked as an associate professor in Psychology, Zack lived his life as an aspiring artist in Miami, Florida.  When Zack unexpectedly dies at the age of 27, Zoey is devestated.  She remembers talk of her family being cursed, by many of her maternal family members dying in tragic ways at the age of 27, including her mother.  She never gave this curse any credence.  However, with Zack's passing, she has come to accept her destiny, and believes that she too will die at the age of 27.

Zoey decides to travel from her home in New York to Miami to clean out her brother's belongings from his home.  When she get's to Miami, she meet's Zack's best friend, Nate in person.  She has been corresponding with Nate through email, but never could have anticipated the sizzling attraction and intense chemistry that sizzles between them.  While Zoey is in Miami, she starts to discover that she didn't know everything about Zack, like she thought she did.  In fact, she discovers that Zack led a secret life, one that even Nate was unaware of.

Zoey decides to dig deeper, and Nate agree's to help her uncover her brother's many secrets.  In the meantime, Zoey decides to live each day as if it was her last.  To Nate, she proposes an affair based soley on sex, where she can explore her passions.  While at first Nate tries to stay away from Zoey, he quickly realizes that he can't resist the temptation of being with her, and eventually asks her to extend her stay from one week to the whole summer.  Nate struggles with trust, because he has emotional scars from his mom abandoning him and his father at a young age.  Will Nate be able to trust again, and let Zoey into his heart, and if so, will Zoey live past her 27th birthday to be with the man that she is falling in love with?

The 27 Club was mysterious.  The prologue of the story was told from Zack's perspective, and it sparked my curiosity.  I loved the suspense behind Zack's secrets, and couldn't wait to find out what he was involved in.  I loved reading about Zoey's sexual awakening, and Nate's struggle as the depth of his feelings for Zoey grew.  I enjoyed the complexity of Nate's character.  At times, he could be shy, vulnerable, and unsure, while at other times he was cocky, confident, and would take charge.

My Rating:

I give The 27 Club, by Kim Karr, 4 Intriguing, Sexy, Savage Desire Filled Stars!  This is a story that explores the belief in destiny, learning how to take a chance on love, and exploring one's raw and erotic fantasies and desires!

My Favorite Quote:

"Stars are born, they live, and they die--just like people.  Some shine bright, some twinkle, some are faint specks you can barely see.  The lives of stars vary, their vibrancy does too--but once they burn out they extinguish, and then they fall from the sky.  Isn't that the way of life?" (eARC, Loc. 1417)

Mikki's Review:
I have been wanting to read a book written by Kim Karr for a long time. My co-bloggers, Lindy and Ria, love her books and they have been telling me to read her Connections Series, but it’s been sitting on my TBR list for far too long! I’ll make sure to take some time in the next few weeks to read them. I really loved the way The 27 Club was written. It was packed with steaminess, mystery and it was a page-turning reading journey!

What would you do if you knew that the from the day you turned twenty-seven your days were counted? Generations after generation of family members have died young and tragically in Zoey’s family. They are all a part of The 27 Club. From the moment she learned of her brother’s death, Zoey has been living in fear of what her destiny will be. When she visits the place her brother used to call home, Zoey is overwhelmed with what she finds. Zack has a mysterious past that she knew nothing about. What is more mysterious is the attraction that she feels toward Nate, Zack’s best friend. Whenever they are in the same room, she feels alive. The more time she spends with him, the less she thinks about the curse that is chasing after her. They start a passionate love affair that will make them feel more alive and hanging on to each day. Will Zoey be the next member of The 27 Club or will she be able to take control of her own destiny?

I really enjoyed The 27 Club. I did not know what to expect since it was my first time reading a book by Kim Karr. This book caught my attention from the first moment I saw it appearing on all social media platforms. I’m extremely happy with the way things turned out in this book. It always kept me guessing on what was going to happen next. It was intriguing to find out Zack’s secrets. What I had a difficult time with was Zoey and Nate’s relationship. It took me some time to connect with them as a couple. I would have liked to feel a bit more sexual tension between them. I know that it was supposed to be a no strings attached relationship, but it started off too fast for me. I did end up connecting with them once Zoey let go of her fears and Nate made her live all of her fantasies, which were pretty freakin’ hot!

This story is told from Zoey’s POV. In the epilogue we got Nate’s POV and I absolutely loved it. I wish that I could have been able to read about his thoughts more often. That epilogue that was written from his POV made me see another side of his personality. I really got a chance to discover how he really feels about Zoey. I’m really happy that the author included an epilogue with his POV.

Overall, I really enjoyed my first reading experience with a book written by Kim Karr. She kept my interest from beginning to end. The details included in the story allowed me to make my own conclusions on what happened to Zack, but I was pleasantly surprised that there were new twists and turns that kept coming my way. If you haven’t read a book by Kim Karr yet this standalone is a great place to start!

My Rating:
I give, The 27 Club, by Kim Karr, 4 erotic, mysterious, steamy, passionate, destiny filled stars!
