GR's Summary:

From the bestselling authors of Last Hit comes the next in the steamy series that explores the exquisite power of our darkest passions . . .

Regan: I never really knew what misery was until the day I was kidnapped and sold for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two months later, I’m at a brothel in Rio when I meet Daniel Hays. He says he’s here to save me, but can I trust him? All I know of him are his sarcastic retorts and his tendency to solve every dispute with his gun. He’s also the only safe thing in my world, and I know it’s wrong to fall in love with him, but I can’t seem to help myself. He says he’ll protect me until his last breath, but I don’t know if I should believe him or even if I can.

Daniel: For the last eighteen months, one goal has dictated every action I’ve taken. I’ve left the Army, turned paid hit man, and befriended criminals all across the globe to find my kidnapped sister. In every brothel I raid and every human trafficking truck I stop, I hope the next face I find is my sister’s. In a hidden brothel in Rio, I find Regan Porter, bruised but not broken, and still sane despite her weeks in captivity. I should leave her behind or send her home, because the last thing either of us needs right now is to get involved. But with every passing minute, I find I’m less able to let her go.

My Thoughts:

The Hitman Series by Dynamic Duo, Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick has been a thrill ride a minute! I love these action packed, suspenseful, dark, twisted, and erotic stories! These are stories that you can get completely lost in. They take you all over the world, and throw you in peril, as bullets fly, and the most dangerous of criminals surround you.

In the first book in the series, Last Hit, we got Russian Hit Man, Nicolai's story, and his innocent and naive love interest Daisy's story. In Last Breath, we get Nicolai's fellow Hit Man, Daniel's story, and Daisy's best friend Regan's story. Daniel use to work for the United Stated Armed Special Forces, as a Sniper, when he got a phone call that changed his life. His twenty-year old sister, Naomi, while vacationing in Cancun, had been kidnapped. Daniel left the service, and has been all over the world following leads, and trying to find his sister for the last eighteen months. Along the way, he makes his money by being a hired mercenary, and has connections with other assassins. He has rescued girls that were abducted and sold in to the slave trade along the way. When Nicolai asks Daniel to find and free Regan, (who was mistaken for Daisy, captured, and sold in to sexual slavery,) he agrees. He hopes that he may find Nicolai along the way.

Regan is living a horrifying nightmare. She has been beaten, raped, and held prisoner for the last few months. She hopes that someone will rescue her, and until that day comes, she fights for her survival. When Daniel arrives, and purchases her, she doesn't trust him. However, she soon learns that he wants to rescue and protect her from the bad guys. When Regan and Daniel are stuck with one another, and fighting for their lives until they can escape a powerful man obsessed with getting Regan back, they begin to develop feelings for one another. Daniel makes Regan feel safe, cared for, and helps keep her nightmares and fears at bay. Daniel admires Regan's strength, courage, and the way that she refuses to be broken. Will Daniel and Regan be able to survive the constant threats of death and danger? If so, do they have a future together?

Last Breath was such an excellent story. I could feel Regen's fear, desperation, anger, and pain emanating from every page. I too admired her strength, strong will to live, and not give up. Daniel was everything that Regen needed. He was compassionate, nurturing, patient, sympathetic, and caring. He used his humor to distract her from moments of danger, and overwhelming pain, and seemed to always know what she needed most at any given moment. The setting of Rio took on a life of it's own, and the author's made me feel like I had been there before. I could clearly see this country in my mind. Daniel and Regen's romance was slow-building, and the way the author's wrote it, made me completely believe in their love for one another. I loved the tender moments, and how this was a story about how love can heal even the worst of wounds.

My Rating:

I give, Last Breath, by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick, 4 Explosive, Adrenaline Pounding, Passionate, and Powerful Stars! Last Breath can be read as a stand-alone story, but I think readers will enjoy the opportunity to read this whole series, because it has great characters, and fascinating plot lines. If you like romance, eroticism, suspense, action, dark fiction, and crime stories, you must try out the Hitman Series!!!
