GR's Summary:

I am different. I have always been different, but no one can know or my life will be in danger. So I hide in plain sight, wearing drab clothes and thick glasses and trying to be invisible. I’m so good at hiding, no one has ever noticed me. Until Ian…the mysterious and oh-so-cute boy I know I need to avoid.

Now I have been seen. And more terrifying still, I am wanted—by those who would protect me and those who would destroy everything and everyone I love. But if they’re all terrified about who I am, wait until they see what I can do…

My Thoughts:

Atlantis Rising was a magical story that came to life for me.  I loved the fact that this fantasy used the mythology of Atlantis as the premise.  I have never read a story like this one, and appreciated its uniqueness.  I love when a book can offer me a wonderful escape filled with imagination, entertainment, and the need to turn the pages quickly.

Altantis Rising is about the descendants of Atlantis.  These offspring blend in to human society, but live longer lives, age slower, have photographic memories, and exceptional abilities that deal with their mind and essence.  Alison was raised by a loving adoptive human family, but always knew that she was different.  She had the ability to place thoughts in to other people's minds.  When she was young, she was warned by another of her kind, that she must blend in with those around her, or she would bring danger to herself and her loved ones.

Her senior year she meets cousins, Ian and Brandy.  Even though she tries to avoid them, they are always in her path. They both inform her that they are part of the Dewing (Descendants of Atlantis).  Ian and Brandy take Alison under their wing and teach her both how to develop her abilities and defend herself.  The time has come for the three of them to try to take down a corrupt Dewing interested in taking control and enslaving human kind.

I enjoyed the romance between Alison and Ian, but would have liked that aspect of the story to be more fully explored and developed.  There was flirtation and chemistry between these two characters, but no follow through, which was disappointing.  Brandy was a fun, vibrant, loyal, and friendly character.  I could easily see her being my best friend.  I was intrigued by all of the different abilities the Dewing possessed.  There were thought makers, sensation makers, healers, futuretellers, thoughtseers, erasers, confidants, and many other amazing powers!  This story had the right amount of action, suspense, intrigue, mystery, and danger!  I look forward to seeing what book Ms. Craw writes next.

My Rating:

I give, Altlantis Rising, by Gloria Craw 3.5 Magical, Imaginative, Fun, and Suspense-Filled Stars.  If you are looking for a solid fantasy read that is unique, and a real page turner, read Atlantis Rising.

My Favorite Quote:

"There are two kinds of emotional pain.  The pain of loving and letting go, and the pain of never loving at all."  (eARC, Loc. 2891)

About Gloria Craw:

I grew up in the desert southwest, inspired everyday by the wide skies and rich colors around me. I attended the University of Utah where I majored and got a degree in anthropology. These days, I live in the burbs just outside of Seattle, Washington. I'm married and have four daughters. When I"m not running them to volleyball or swimming, I'm reading, writing or fangirling over some TV show. Fun fact...I always have my laptop with me. So, if you see some lady in the grocery store with a computer bag slung over her shoulder, it might be me.
