Book Summary:

The Tech sisters don’t date in high school. Not because they’re not asked. Not because they’re not interested. Not even because no one can pronounce their long, Thai last name—hence the shortened, awkward moniker. But simply because they’re not allowed.

Until now.

In a move that other Asian American girls know all too well, six months after the older Tech twins got to college, their parents asked, “Why aren’t you engaged yet?” The sisters retaliated by vowing that they won’t marry for ten (maybe even twenty!) years, not until they’ve had lots of the dating practice that they didn’t get in high school.

In a shocking war on the status quo, her parents now insist that their youngest daughter, Orrawin (aka “Winnie”), must practice fake dating in high school. Under their watchful eyes, of course—and organized based on their favorite rom-coms. ’Cause that won’t end in disaster.

The first candidate? The son of their longtime friends, Mat Songsomboon—arrogant, infuriating, and way too good-looking. Winnie’s known him since they were toddlers throwing sticky rice balls at each other. And her parents love him.

If only he weren’t her sworn enemy.

My Thoughts:

Dating Makes Perfect was the first book I've read by Pintip Dunn, but it won't be my last!  This story was a colorful, fun, feel-good #OwnVoices romance, that delighted me from beginning to end.

There were so many things I loved about this story!  The descriptions of Taiwanese culture, as well as the customs, traditions, and cuisine were exquisite!  I loved reading about the various Thai dishes, and could see how food was such an integral aspect of the culture.  The cuisine sounded so delicious that I could picture everything, and wished I could hop through the pages and try the various foods.

The Tech sisters had an unnbreakable bond.  I loved the twins Ari and Bunny, and of course Winnie was absolutely wonderful.  These girls shared everything with each other, and always supported one another.  They were more than sisters; they were best friends. Anyone who reads this story will love this trio.  I enjoyed time spent with Winnie's parents as well.  They brought a lot of levity and humor to the story.

The romance between Matt and Winnie was a blast!  These two had so much fiery chemistry!  I loved their interactions and fake dates.  I was rooting for them from the start, and wanted to know what could have broken up such a strong friendship. Their journey from enemies to friends/crushes was a fun one filled with the passion and excitement of first love, humor, heartbreak, life lessons, and an abundance of feels!

In case you can't tell, I loved Dating Makes Perfect, and highly recommend it!

Book Synopsis:

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.

Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.

Which could spell death for us all.

Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally—as the bait.

My Thoughts:

Crave was a book that immediately pulled me in.  In a challenging time where reading, watching tv, or focusing on any other enjoyable activity feels impossible, this story was the escape that I desperately needed.

Grace has been forced to leave San Diego, after her parents were killed in a car accident.  Now she's moved to Alaska to attend Katmere Academy, where her Uncle Finn is the headmaster.  Things don't go so well when Grace arrives.  While she's impressed by the architecture of her boarding school, which resembles  an elaborate gothic castle, she gets severely ill with altitude sickness, isn't received well by most of the other students, and finds her life in danger too many times to count!

Her cousin Macy, also her new roommate, goes out of her way to try to make Grace feel welcome, but the rude, brooding, and gorgeous Jaxon Vega, comes off as cold, as he warns her that she needs to leave, because she isn't safe at Katmere. Then there's Flint, who is Jackson's opposite in every way, from his warmth, to his flirty and teasing manner.  He makes Macy comfortable, but doesn't make her heart beat or her stomach flutter the way Jackson does.  One thing is for certain, the students at Katmere Academy are very different from Grace...

Fans of the Twilight franchise, as well as the Lux franchise, are going to love this story.  We have Grace and Jaxon, two characters full of combustible chemistry, that will leave you giddy and spellbound at their every interaction. Crave is told exclusively through Grace's eyes, and I enjoyed her viewpoint.  We see Jaxon start off as a bit cold, but he still goes out of his way to protect Grace right from the very beginning of this story, and it was an Edward and Bella type of Twilight dynamic.

Ms. Wolff did a great job of entertaining me throughout the entire story.  The pacing was perfect!  For being a 592 page book, this story flew by!  The characters were fascinating, and I enjoyed the air of mystery that surrounded them all, as well as trying to guess at what kind of paranormal being they were. There was such a fun and eclectic variety too; with vampires, witches, and dragon and wolf shifters!

Crave was such a high energy read!  Bookworms are going to love the book and movie quote references, the romance, magic, danger, and lure of a book full of exciting magical paranormal creatures. If you are looking for light, entertaining, and exciting, then look no further for the perfect reading escape!

Crave reminds me of why I got in to young adult paranormal.  It makes me think of The Vampire Academy Series, and Bloodlines Series which are two of my favorite young adult paranormal series.' I Hate You, Fuller James by Kelly Anne Blout

I Hate You, James Fuller

Book Summary:

I hate you, Fuller James.

I hate your floppy hair and your lopsided grin and those laughing blue eyes that always seem to be laughing at me.

I hate that you’re the most popular guy in school and I’m still the girl who sneezed and spit out her retainer on someone at a middle school dance. It’s just such a cliché.

I hate that I’m being forced to tutor you in English and keep it a secret from everyone. Because otherwise it might put our basketball team’s chances at winning State in jeopardy, and even though I hate you, I love basketball.

I hate that it seems like you’re keeping a secret from me…and that the more time we spend together, the less I feel like I’m on solid ground. Because I’m starting to realize there’s so much more to you than meets the eye. Underneath it all, you’re real.

But what I hate most is that I really don’t hate you at all.

My Thoughts:

When I read the synopsis and saw the cute cover for I Hate You, Fuller James, I expected a fun, and cute story.  However, I got so much more!  I must admit that at the beginning of the story I didn't know if I would enjoy it, because James came across as immature for being a senior in high school, and it seemed like everything about him irritated Wren, even things that I thought weren't a big deal.  However, we quickly learn it's because these two have quite the history!

I'm happy to say, that the pages just flew by!  James was the captain of the basketball team and the most popular guy in his high school.  He was dating mean girl, Marissa, who was pretty, but extremely shallow, and a horrible bully!  Both of them consistently gave Wren a hard time at school.  James was more worried about his image and being popular than anything else.

I loved Wren.  She was sweet, intelligent, and dedicated to her family.  When James starts a food fight, Wren, who usually doesn't react to shenanigans, gets so angry that she throws food back.  As her punishment, she gets stuck tutoring James, because he is failing A.P. Literature, and needs to bring up his grade in order to play basketball.

As Wren and James are forced to spend more time together, they get to know each other on a deeper level.  I connected to both of these characters emotionally, and found myself in love with their story.

Wren was extremely close to her grandfather, who had moved in with her family, because he was suffering from Alzheimers.  My heart broke for her, and I smiled at all of the heartwarming scenes with her and her grandfather.  This was extremely difficult for me read, because I've always shared a special bond with my grandparents, and lost my Nana a couple of years ago, and my grandpa has been really sick.

James was very close to his little brother, Hudson, who had brittle bone disease.  I loved his little bro, and their relationship was super sweet.  James matured, and underwent a lot of character growth, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, because of an unfortunate mistake that James made at the beginning of the story.

I Hate You, Fuller James, was a super fast, light, cute, and fun read!  It balanced out heavy topics, with lightness, humor, friendship, and first love.  This was a story that sucked me right in, and gave me great characters, and a real, relatable, and emotional reading experience.

Book Synopsis:

When Avery Stone learns her dad will be fired if his high school team doesn’t make the playoffs, she has to get her head out of her day planner and do something—anything—to help him win. Even if it means secretly coaching the team’s newest player, who seems to have more game than skill.

Lucas Black just transferred to Hillside with a fake name and a big secret. The MVP of every team he’d played on since he was seven—not to mention the MVP of every post-game party—he can’t understand why since arriving at Hillside, he’s been unable to catch a single. Freaking. Ball.

Until…Avery. Amazing, kind, generous, and crazy-freaking-hot Avery.

As Lucas goes from zero back to hero and Avery struggles with just what Lucas means to her, she inadvertently sets them on a collision course with Lucas’s secret…a secret that could take down not only Lucas but her father too.

DISCLAIMER: This Entangled Teen Crush contains a football player hotter than the Texas sun, hotel cuddles, and a steamy makeout session in the rain

My Thoughts:

The Love Playbook was a sweet and fun read!  Lucas has transferred to Hillside High School.  Football is his passion, but after he got caught taking expensive gifts from a university, he is banned from ever playing again.  He decides to fly under the radar by playing for a small town football team where he won't get noticed.  However, all of a sudden, he can't seem to catch the ball!

Avery, the coaches' daughter, agrees to help Lucas improve his game.  She overheard a secret conversation that if the team doesn't make it to playoffs, her father will most likely lose his job.  Football is important to Avery's family, and after losing her mother to Cancer last year, she doesn't want them to lose anything more.

Both Lucas and Avery are struggling emotionally, and are going through very difficult times in their lives.  As they spend time together, they find a friend and ally in one another, but will their secrets catch up to them, and tear apart the relationship they've built?

I enjoyed reading about the struggles, friendship, and love of Lucas and Avery.  Both of them went through huge challenges, and were able to grow and mature from their experiences.  I loved the way they were always there for one another, supporting, encouraging, and guiding.  The Love Playbook was a fast-paced, light, sweet, fun, and feel good romance!  I enjoyed Lucas and Avery's story, and look forward to reading more books by Suze Winegardner!
