Synopsis:

Fate brings them together
Fame & lies keep them apart
One truth remains…

She’s become the Paly High girl with the most tragic story…

At 17, Tally Landon just wants to graduate and leave for New York to pursue ballet. Her best friend Marla convinces her to attend one last party—a college party—where she can be among strangers and evade the whisperings about her heartbreaking loss of her twin that follows her everywhere she goes. She meets Lincoln Presley, Stanford’s famous baseball wonder and has a little fun at his expense—when she lies about her age and who she really is—intent on being someone else for the night and escaping her tragic story.

His only focus is baseball, but he can’t forget the girl he saved on Valentine’s Day…

At 22, Lincoln Presley’s star is on the rise—about to finish at Stanford and expected to be taken early in Major League Baseball’s upcoming draft—his cousin’s party serves as a welcome distraction. But then, he sees the girl from Valentine’s Day that he saved from that horrific car accident and can’t quite hide his disappointment when she appears to look right through him and not remember him at all. He vows to learn her name at least before he leaves. What’s the harm in getting to know this girl? What’s the worst that can happen?

They share this incredible connection, but fate soon tests these star-crossed lovers in all kinds of ways…

And yet, despite the lies being told to protect the other, and the trappings of fame that continually separate them, and in lieu of the deception by those they’ve come to trust the most; one truth remains.

This much is true.

My Review:

Wow!!!

This Much is True by Katherine Owen was gut-wrenching!!!  When I read the blurb I did expect this book to be emotional, but I never expected to read such a heartbreaking story. It's my first time reading a book from Katherine Owen and it won't be my last! Her writing style is captivating, her characters intriguing and the storyline is very different from all the other NA books that I have read.

In This Much is True we follow Tally and Linc's emotional journey. Tally lives for ballet and Linc lives for baseball. Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate love, but for Tally and Linc it's the day that their paths cross and from that moment on they are forever changed. Tally has lost her twin sister, Holly, in a tragic accident. Any memory of that night leaves her breathless and in a state of panic. Since that night she is numb. Linc was a witness to the horrible accident that took the life of an innocent person. He got there in time to save Tally. Since that night he can't forget about her. She is in his thoughts every single day. Tally has had a long rehabilitation period. What she can't heal is her broken heart. Her sister's death has left an emptiness that nothing or nobody can fill until she meets Lincoln Presley. When Linc comes face-to-face with Tally he can't believe that she's standing in the same room as him. Instantly they are attracted to each other and share a passionate night that neither of them will ever forget. When reality checks in and they both have to go their separate ways to achieve their dreams, Tally and Linc leave each other with a heartbreaking goodbye, but even far away from each other the bond that they share is powerful and unbreakable. Their journey to finding each other is filled with curveballs they never saw coming.

Tally and Linc go through many difficult times. There was A LOT of angst in this book! I was an emotional mess after I finished the last page of their story. This book is over 400 pages. It's very hard to review this book without giving out spoilers. There is so much to take in! What I will say is that this is not your typical NA love story. After Tally and Linc meet they go their separate ways. I really liked the storyline, but I really wanted these two to have more time together has a couple. Weeks, months and even years pass before they see or speak to each other. This story is told from a dual POV, which is why it was easy for me to connect to both of them individually. They shared one passionate night together and that night marked them forever. This story is all about fate. No matter what obstacle life puts in their way they both had the strenght to overcome these obstacles. They have made wrong decisions and they lived with the consequences of those decisions. One thing is for sure, this book has a lot of twists and turns! I had no more nails left by the end of the book. I can't even imagine going through everything Tally has suffered. I'm really happy that she had a friend like Marla by her side. Some parts of the books were slow-paced and I found that the story had some up and some down moments. The ending was a bit rushed for me and I really would have liked an epilogue to wrap things up, but overhall I really liked their story.

My Rating:

I give, This Much is True, by Katherine Owen, 4 intense, intriguing, poignant stars! If you want to try a different kind of NA book, I highly recommend This Much is True.

This song made me think of Lincoln's Love for Tally:

About the Author

Dark. Edgy. Contemporary. Romantic. Were we describing me? Or my fiction? Sorry. I drink too much...coffee, not enough water. I swear too much for God and my mother, and I slip these into my fiction. Sorry. I'm impatient, a perfectionist, a wordsmith, a dreamer, which ends up being good and bad. I'm a workaholic; ask my fam-dam-ily. I've written four novels in as many years: SEEING JULIA, NOT TO US, & WHEN I SEE YOU, as well as my latest release THIS MUCH IS TRUE. If you love angsty, unpredictable love stories, I'm yours.
