Book Review: Appealed (The Legal Briefs #3) by Emma Chase
Appealed The Legal Briefs #3 By: Emma Chase Release Date: Jan. 19, 2016 Publisher: Gallery Books Add to Goodreads Source: eARC from publisher in exchange for a honest review GR's Summary: When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate - and prized - parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Christian Louboutins. Brent has never let the loss of his leg in a childhood accident affect his ability to lead a fulfilling life. He sets high goals–and then he reaches them. And now he has his sights set on Kennedy. ** When Kennedy looks at Brent Mason, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell. She’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore - she’s a DC prosecutor with a long winning streak behind her. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case and she thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own. But things aren’t exactly working out that way. Because every fiery exchange has her wondering if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. Each argument and objection only makes him want her more. In the end, Brent and Kennedy may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court. APPEALED is a sexy, humorous romance about first crushes, second chances and the final verdict of the heart.
The Legal Briefs: Our Review on Overruled Here Our Review on Sustained Here
Let me start off by saying I LOVE Emma Chase's talented writing style. It is unique. She is the master at writing the male point of view. It is realistic, flows easily and casually, and is so fun and entertaining to read. I just can't get enough of her books.
If you are ever in a book slump, just read a book by Emma Chase. It is the miracle cure for book slumps. All of Ms. Chase's books are auto-buys/auto-reads for me. You can't go wrong by reading one of her books! Trust me! Ms. Chase is an author I recommend to everyone! Her signature humor, ability to get readers to relate and care about her characters, and entertaining story plots are a unique gift, and to be treasured. I have all of her books in my personal library, because she is the perfect author if you are looking for a reread.
The Legal Briefs Series has been a blast! I love these charming, and strong-willed criminal defense attorneys. In Overruled, we got law partners Stanton and Sofia's story. In Sustained we got law partner Jake's story. Now in Appealed, we get the final partner, Brent Mason's story.
Brent Mason doesn't do serious relationships. He works hard, and plays even harder, enjoying his bachelorhood. Then one day at a large family gathering, he see's Kennedy Randolph. She's stunning, sexy and confident. When Brent goes to introduce himself to her, he realizes that she is his childhood best friend that he hasn't seen in years. She was the one girl that meant a lot to him and he never forgot.
Kennedy has changed dramatically in the last nine years. She is not the shy, easily trampled on girl, who was madly in love with Brent anymore. He destroyed her feelings for him in high school, and she is determined to keep him out of her heart. However, Brent doesn't know what he did to make Kennedy so angry. As he tries to win over her trust, they both discover an intense passion and depth of feeling that they've never experienced with another individual before. Will Kennedy take a chance, and open her heart to Brent again?
Appealed was a wonderful read. Brent was not the typical male lead, as he had a partial amputation to one of his legs from a childhood accident, and had to wear a prosthesis. Yet, he was confident in himself, charming, funny, loving, and loyal. He didn't let his amputation make him feel like less of a man, and I admired him for it. I have two amputated fingers, and have had to try to emotionally heal from my loss. I respected Brent and his positive attitude. I also related to his extreme nerve pain, and even though Brent was a male, I really identified with his character.
Kennedy was strong, independent, ambitious, dedicated to her career as a prosecutor, and extremely witty. I adored her. Watching Brent and Kennedy dialogue was one of my favorite things about the story. I couldn't help but smile and laugh. The chemistry between Brent and Kennedy was passionate and downright carnal. These two had a hunger for one another that continued to grow thoughout the story. Both epilogues in the story delivered warm fuzzes, and a dopey smile to my face. Appealed is another story in the win column for Ms. Chase, and I highly recommend it.
I give Appealed, by Emma Chase, 4.5 Passionate, Witty, Entertaining, and Heart-Warming Stars! I'm sad that this is the last book in the Legal Briefs Series, but am excited to see what Ms. Chase writes next! Read this series! It is superb!!!
I am so sad to see this series end!!! When I started reading The Legal Briefs Series, my expectations were pretty high since Emma Chase gave us the irresistible Drew Evans. I was expecting something different, but irrevocably captivating nonetheless. Emma Chase had done a fantastic job with The Legal Briefs Series. I have enjoyed every single one of these books and they are some of my favorite go-to books when I need to laugh and get lost in a story with awesome characters. Emma Chase delivers a wonderful last installment filled with funny, tender, sexy and emotional moments. Kennedy and Brent's story was another wonderful reading escape!
Kennedy Randolph and Brent Mason may be on opposite sides of the courtroom, but their attraction is causing fourth of July fireworks in the bedroom. It's been fourteen years since the last time Brent saw Kennedy. When she walks back into his life, she leaves him speechless and determined. He wants Kennedy back in his life and he will do whatever it takes to keep her by his side. Will Kennedy and Brent give their love a second chance?
Awww!!! I loved Kennedy and Brent to pieces!! Their chemistry was so hot and get ready for some major swoon attacks! Brent Mason will not only melt your panties, he will melt your heart as well!! It was interesting to see his feelings for Kennedy develop. He's been in love with her since forever, but only now that she's back in his life does he realize how much she means to him. He's protective of her and he will do whatever it takes to make her feel safe in his arms. He might not have been the perfect friend in the past, but he's determined to be the perfect man for her future.
Kennedy was such a lovely, independent, strong and intriguing heroine. I loved her from the very beginning of the story. My heart broke for her when I read about what happened to her in the past. Her trust towards Brent was broken and I understood why she was so cold with him. It took her no time to fall under Brent's charm though. Honesty, I can't blame her! He's absolutely irresistible. What I loved about Kennedy is that even though there was an instant attraction between her and Brent, she put her foot down when it came to divulging her feelings for him. She needed to make sure that her heart was not going to get broken again.
I absolutely loved my reading journey with Kennedy and Brent. It was everything I expected for the last installment to one of my favorite series. I had a blast reuniting with the whole cast of characters that have brought me so much happiness. It was amazing to see them all happy with the HEA that they all deserved. I have to admit that the little surprise that followed the Epilogue made me smile big time! I can't wait to see what Emma Chase will write next! I highly recommend The Legal Briefs series and any other book by Emma Chase. They are freakin' fantastic!
I give, Appealed, by Emma Chase, 4.5 hilarious, sexy, friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, charming, heartwarming, second chance at love stars!
