Synopsis:

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

Our Review of Overruled HERE

Lindy's Thoughts:

Emma Chase continues The Legal Briefs Series with a bang!  I don't know how she does it, but she manages to make me laugh, cry, smile, and swoon when reading her books.  In my opinion, Ms. Chase always brings her "A" game by delivering the very best that the romance genre has to offer.

Sustained is the second book in The Legal Briefs.  In the first book, Overruled, we met co-workers, best friends, and defense lawyers, Stanton Shaw, Sofia Santos, Jake Becker, and Brent Mason.  We got Stanton and Sofia's story first, and now we get Jake's story.

Jake Becker is career driven.  His goal is to make partner one day, and he never wants to be tied down to a woman or children.  His life consists of hard work as a successful defense attorney, quality time with his best friends, Stanton, Sofia, and Brent, and a revolving door of women that he uses strictly for his sexual needs.

Circumstances bring Chelsea McQuaid, and her six nieces and nephews in to his life.  Chelsea's brother and sister-in-law recently died in a car accident, and she is in over her head as the sole family member and guardian to their six children, ranging from six months old to fourteen years old.  Before Jake realizes it, he is falling for Chelsea and the six children.  His life becomes deeply entangled with the McQuaid's, and he has a difficult decision to make; become a family man, or let Chelsea and the children go.

Sustained was a story that spoke to my heart.  I felt so horrible for the pain, suffering, and loss that Chelsea and her nieces and nephews had to endure.  Chelsea was such a sweetheart.  She was loving, devoted, and selfless.  The kids each had their unique personalities, and won me over as well.  I couldn't help but love each and every one of them.  I laughed at some of their antics, and things that they said.  The cast of characters was so much fun, as well as endearing, and very likable.

It was wonderful watching Jake's transformation from womanizer to family man.  I like the person that Chelsea and the kids brought out in him.  He was fiercely protective, devoted, doting, and made me laugh with some of his advice.  Sustained had so many layers to it.  We get deep friendships, swoony and sensual romance, humor, and sentimentality.  This is a story that I highly recommend, and have added to my favorite's shelf.

Rating:

I give, Sustained, by Emma Chase, 5 Adorable, Heart-Melting, Heated, and Enchanting Stars!  If you are looking for a top-notch romance full of love, humor, and feeling, pick Sustained up and give it a read!  You will not want to put it down!

Mikki's Review:

Be still my beating heart!!! There is a new prince charming in town!!! Prepare to meet your next book boyfriend in Emma Chase's  new book in The Legal Briefs series. Emma Chase once again delivers a story filled with memorable moments that will leave a smile on your face and warm your heart.

Sustained is the story of Jake Becker and Chelsea McQuaid. Jake is loving is life. He's a successful defense attorney, he's surrounded by 3 amazing best friends and the ladies love him. When Chelsea McQuaid walks into his life, his world his turned upside down. The more time he spends with Chelsea and her family, the more he wants to be a part of their life.  Changing diapers, showing up at the principal's office and singing One Direction songs were never part of the plan and neither was falling in love with Chelsea. As days go by, Jake and Chelsea grow closer together, but will he be able to let go and give his relationship with Chelsea a chance?

I loved every single moment of my reading journey! Sustained was everything I expected it to be and more! Emma Chase's writing style is absolutely AMAZING!!! Her stories are always fun, romantic and heart-warming. If you are looking for books written with a male POV that will keep you turning the pages Emma Chase's books are exactly what you are looking for!

Tangled was the first book I read from Emma Chase. Ever since the moment I read it, I have been a fan. How can you resist Drew Evans? You can't!!! I have loved every single book that this author has written, but I did not think anybody would come close to stealing my heart like Drew did. Wrong!!!!!!!!! Oh.my.world!!!!! Jake Becker is in da house and Drew Evans has some serious competition.  If you are a fan of Drew, you will absolutely fall head over heels in love with Jake!

Chelsea and Jake were simply irresistible!! Their chemistry was instant and I loved how their love grew with each moment that they shared. Jake is not a relationship kind of guy, but the time he spent around Chelsea made him want more. I loved that Jake was not perfect. He had his insecurities about love and a long-term relationship. He did not know if he was ready to take that big step in his life, but every single moment that he shared with Chelsea and the kids made him realized that next to them was exactly where he was meant to be.

Chelsea was a fantastic heroine that I loved to cheer for! She was sweet, confident and strong. Her world turned upside down when her brother and sister-in-law passed away. She was left alone to take care of her six nieces and nephews. It's been far from easy, but she would not trade her place for anything in the world. She was easy to relate to and I loved how she handled her relationship with Jake. She made him see that not everything in life is planned and that you have to really fight for what will bring happiness in your life.

This book was filled with amazing banter, steamy moments that will leave you fanning yourself and a cast of characters that will forever have a place in your hearts. The McQuaid clan had a big part in this story and every single one of the children had a moment with Chelsea and Jake. I loved Chelsea and Jake's story a lot, but the McQuaid kids totally stole my heart! They're an entertaining bunch that will keep a smile on your face! It was amazing to see Stanton, Sofia and Brent again. I love catching up with characters from the previous books. Brent will be getting his book next. I'm so excited to read his story! He's a really fun character! :)

By day, Emma Chase is a devoted wife and mother who resides in a small town in New Jersey. By night she is a keyboard crusader, toiling away the hours to bring her colorful characters and their endless antics to life. She has a long standing love/hate relationship with caffeine.
