The Second Chance Hero is the very first book that I've ever read by author Jeannie Moon. It was a very pleasant and warm romance. I haven't read the other books in this series, but I would strongly recommend reading them in order. There were a lot of secondary characters in this story, and at times I felt a little bit lost when it came to keeping track of who was whom, their significant others, kids, and who they were in relation to one another. However, having read, Second Chance Hero, and enjoying it, I would like to go back and begin reading this series in order.
In Second Chance Hero, we get Kim Torres and Marine Major Owen Kent's story. Kim grew up with her sweetheart, Tom, being her next door neighbor. He was the older brother of her best friend Jenna, which was perfect because she was so close to his whole family. Tom was a Marine fighting in the dangerous country of Afghanistan. Kim was a combat nurse, also stationed in Afghanistan. When Tom dies in Kim's arms she is devastated. To top things off, she is issued a double whammy that day. Kim realizes that she needs to get away from the war, and ends up taking a position as a Nanny, for Harper's cute little girl.
Hottie Marine, Major Owen Kent, will never forget the beautiful Ms. Torres when he was in Afghanistan. He met her once for a short period of time, and she made a lasting impression on him. When he returned to try to find her, she had already left Afghanistan. Owen believes luck is on his side when he runs in to Kim and realizes that she is his good friend's daughter's nanny. However, he quickly realizes that she doesn't remember him. To top it off, he's carrying a secret, that he knows he must tell her or they will have no chance for a real relationship. When Kim tells Owen she wants to leave the war and the past behind, he reluctantly agrees. However, when this secret comes out, will Kim ever be able to forgive him?
Owen Kent was a realistic and romantic male lead. He was compassionate, patient, loyal, fun, and humorous. I loved his cheesy pick-up lines, and could picture his affable manner. Kim Torres was strong, gutsy, and wounded. I loved watching her get her spark back! She deserved a beautiful love story, and Ms. Moon delivered. There were many secondary characters, but my favorite was Harper. She was always meddling and trying to get Owen and Kim together! She was good hearted, bossy, take charge, loyal, and a great friend!

I give, The Second Chance Hero, by Jeannie Moon, 3.5 Bad Pick Up Lines, Second Chances, Love Filled Stars! Read this for a sweet, fun, romantic read! Again, I would urge you to read this series in order.

I had the same reaction when I read this book out of order. I loved that there were two vets.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the secondary characters, I find that seems to happen a lot in romance series - especially in the later books, when there are so many previous main characters and their kids etc to keep track of! Owen sounds like a sweet hero, who doesn't love a loyal man?! Lovely review Lindy :)
