Synopsis:

He’s the player of all players…

Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.

Tristan Prescott is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.

Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?

My Thoughts:

I have really enjoyed The Rules series.  I've loved all of these main characters, and watching their journey to finding true love.  Shep, Gabe, and Tristan, were all sexy leading men, and I loved watching their transformations from manwhore to man in love, when they met their soul mates, Jade, Lucy, and Alex.

Tristan Prescott is the ultimate bad boy.  He never sleeps with the same woman twice, is arrogant, has the worst pick-up lines, and is use to getting whatever and whoever he wants; with absolutely no effort on his part.  That all changes, when he meets the beautiful, closed off, and confident, Alexandria "Alex" Asher.  When Tristan see's her, he is determined to have her for the night.  However, Alex, has no problems with turning down this bad boy, and the more she continues to resist him, the more he wants her.

Pretty soon Alex and Tristan are circling around each other.  Flirting, and fighting, these two take two steps forward and one step back.  Tristan isn't fond of labels, but Alex wants to know that he is serious about her.  Another conundrum, is the fact that Alex hasn't shared her shameful family skeletons.  Unfortunately, there is a connection there that neither Alex or Tristan are aware of.

From the moment I met Alex, I adored her.  She was strong, independent, down to earth, and an all around good person.  She knew how to put Tristan in his place, and demand the respect that she deserved.  Alex was a very special lady, and the only one that had the ability to bring out the best in Tristan.

Initially, Tristan was hard for me to warm up to.  His arrogance, the way he spoke, and thought about women, made me angry.  He was the poster child of a "bad boy."  However, realistically, and little by little, he transformed.  We got to see a new side of Tristan.  Alex brought out a more caring, romantic, and sweet side in him, which had me swooning.  The ending of Slow Play was perfect!  I was left with a smile on my face, and pure joy for Tristan and Alex.

My Rating:

I give, Slow Play, by Monica Murphy, 4 Slow & Sensual, Sizzling, Sultry, Stars!  By the way, there are a lot of references to the television show, Sex in the City, in this story.  This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I loved how Ms. Murphy incorporated it in to the story!  Slow Play was another great story by one of my favorite authors, and I recommend The Rules series to fans of New Adult Romance.

Ah, that's the kind of girl I like to read about. I think I grabbed the first book when I saw the price drop, so yay for that.
