For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

The Way I see it

Okay as you know I don’t really get a change to read books…Not true what i should say is…Books that I just “happened to stumble on” BUT with this Challenge I’m kind of FORCED into paying attention to those lonely books that were added to my tbr solely because I was attracted to them. The Selection is one that was like a shiny new toy sitting on the shelf of my FAV Barnes & Noble. Well LET ME TELL YOU!!! GAHHHHH!!!!! Why do I always fall in love with the WRONG guy!!! Im in a glass cage of emotion here! I feel so torn and its so early… You know what?!! EFF IT!! TEAM MAXON All the fa-lipping way!! Its all good if she doesn’t pick him its not like it’ll be the first time I want to beat up a fictional character! Well, the fact that this pulled all of these emotions out of me should tell you how much I loved this! Sure I may not agree with everything all the time but the story was good and the writing was great! So I definitely recommend this gem.

T-ime, stolen and secret America cherishes the moments she spends with her loved ones.
H-orizon, though things look especially hard for America she is hopeful, she will see to it that her dreams come true.
E-nemy, never expecting that her heart would be wounded so deeply by the one she loved to fiercely she must face a new life.

S-ure, nothing is certain now but America welcomes a new friend. When you least expect it a person receives what is needed most.
E-nvy, large numbers of girls were not created to get along its just fact. The girls selected are starting to realize this.
L-onging, America is pushed to the brink. Meeting Maxon the way that she does was unplanned and a pleasant surprise for the both of them.
E-licit, reaching an agreement Maxon has a great need for America and he will use their friendship as an ends to a means.
C-harm, America doesn’t understand the emotions she feels whenever she is around Maxon. Their friendship blossoms nicely.
T-ough, the competition never seizes and even though America knows exactly who is who around her, she is taken back by some of the proceedings.
I-nnocent, a soldier standing his post will bring all of America’s doubts to surface.
O-bject, the way that Maxon feels for America is something almost any one can grasp. America will begin to realize what her heart has been pushing her towards.
N-otorious, the rebels have come and Maxon has but one choice. The number dwindles again but who will stay and who will go?

Something I would have changed is her MUSIC when we meet America we get a sense that she loves her music and is good at singing. That is one of the few things brightening her day. I was a bit sad that we only got to hear about one instance when she played the violin. I want her to sing and blow everyone away!! Mainly I just think I want her to be happy whatever that means or brings I want it for her. This was a fun and angsty read that I recommend to anyone that enjoys dystopians and a bit of drama.

My Rating

4.0 Five, Six, One, Thirty Five, Thirteen, Six, Elite, Gardens, First Kiss, Awesome fun filled stars!! If you enjoy YA and Dystopian then this is one for you!!

  6. Great review! I never got around to reading this one, and now I just feel so far behind that I don't know if I'll ever get there. I think I'll wait and see what people think of the series as a whole before I make my final decision. Glad you enjoyed!
