These violent delights have violent ends

And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which, as they kiss, CONSUME.
 —William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Tristan Coleman has survived the change from Clann magic user to vampire, much to Savannah Colbert's joy—and despair. By changing the Clann's golden boy and newly elected leader, even to save him from death, she has unleashed a fury of hatred and fear that they cannot escape.

As the Clann and the vampire council go to war, Tristan and Sav face a new threat—a fracturing of the all-consuming bond they share. To fight for peace, they must forge a new trust and risk everything to take down their deadliest enemy, even as they must run for their lives. Soon they will learn that some bonds are stronger than love—and some battles cannot be won without sacrifice.

Ms. Darnell's Guest Post

The top 10 authors or books that inspire me are:

1. Nora Roberts:
I grew up reading her books and always loved her straightforward style of writing because it made me believe maybe one day I could learn to write like that. And even now as an adult, when I pick up a Nora Roberts novel, I still feel like she’s silently encouraging me to get off my rear and get to work writing. Some of her characters, especially the heroines from her Daring to Dream series, still remain in my mind as real as long lost friends. Thankfully all I have to do to reconnect with them is pick up my battered paperback copies and start reading!

2. Michael Crichton:
I still love rereading his books and seeing the ways he took new technology and science and wove stories around them that make you believe maybe they really could happen (including a theme park full of real, living dinosaurs here in the modern day world!).

3. Jodi Picoult:
I tend to think of her and Crichton in the same sentence, because while one focused on technology and science and the other on social issues, at the base of it they do the same thing...take a real issue then weave a tale around it that makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of that situation. Jodi also always manages to make me cry, something most books do not do nowadays.

4. Ally Carter’s Gallagher Girls spy girl school series:
I LOVE this series! Ally put so much thought into not only the initial concept of a private school for training spy girls, but she also included a ton of details that make the entire world of her series feel incredibly real. Reading one of these books creates for me the same kind of feeling I used to have in first reading the latest Harry Potter book, just because Ally made her crazy cool world feel so real, from spy gadgets and gear and training, to the many ways the school moves around on its own when in alarm mode! Which leads me to...

5. J.K. Rowling:
The Harry Potter Series. Enough said. My family are total HP fans, and we often have HP trivia quizes during dinner just for fun. Seriously. We also just got to go to Universal Studio’s Amazing World of Harry Potter, and I REALLY want to live there! Maybe someday I can make a billion dollars from sales of my books and convince Universal Studios to create a hidden apartment for me and my family there? Please, Universal Studios? Don’t say no, just think about it first!

6. Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child’s Agent Pendergast Series:
I know I’m cheating by listing two authors here. But it’s specifically this series by them that I adore the most, and here’s why...they are SO GOOD at creating a mystery that really seems paranormal until you learn the truth! I want to be that good someday.

7. Lisa Gardner:
I actually first discovered her from an MP3 recording of one of her ThrillerFest writing workshops, which I bought online. I loved her teaching style and personality so much I went in search of her novels at my library, and found I love her thriller mysteries too. Now I can’t get enough of her novels!

8. Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games Series:
I consider myself fortunate that I did not discover this series until all the books in it were already out. Otherwise I would have hated this author for torturing me by making me wait for each book’s release! Instead I was lucky and got to devour them all in a week. Now I just have to wait in agony in between each movie version’s release!

9. Richelle Mead:
Her Vampire Academy Series had me snapping up every release as soon as it was available like only the Harry Potter Series could previously! WHEN is this going to be made into a movie series?!

10. L.J. Smith:
Love love LOVE the Night World Series!

Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail. For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences.

Dangerous to be together. Painful to be apart.Savannah Colbert knows she broke up with Tristan Coleman for the right reasons. Most of all, to keep from killing him with her new vampire abilities. But try telling her heart. Now, lost in a sea of hostile Clann faces, Sav tries to come to terms with what she's becoming and what that means for her future. And that someone is doing their best to bully her into making a terrible mistake.

Tristan can't believe Sav won't even talk to him. If being apart is her decision, fine. Just don't expect him to honor it. But even as he prepares to fight for the girl he loves, forces beyond their control take them both in directions neither could have foreseen or prepared for.

A reckoning is coming …and not everyone will survive.
