Review:

Last year I discovered The Best Mistake Series by Lauren Layne. I knew from the moment  I read the first book that it would not be my last time reading a book from this author. She writes beautifully and her stories are always a page-turning reading escape! I was excited to find out that she had a new series, which would be featuring a family of cops.

Luc Moretti is trying to get away from all the publicity he's been getting since he saved a little girl. There is only one problem ... Ava Sims. Working with a reporter is the last thing that Luc wants. He has secrets that needs to stay in the past, but the more time he spends with Ava, the closer she gets to finding the real story. Ava is determined to succeed in life and working close with America's new hero is just her ticket to get her to her ultimate career goal. What she never expected was to fall hard for Luc. As days go by, Ava gets closer to finding out what Luc is hiding from his past. Will she be able to keep his secrets or will her career get in the way?

This story was great! It kept me glued to my seat and I had a huge smile on my face when I finished reading it. What I love the most about this book is the banter between Ava and Luc. It's simply amazing!!! It's entertaining, sweet, flirty and completely addictive! These two have an awesome chemistry and the more they got to know each other, the more that chemistry grew more intense.

Ava was a great heroine, but I have to admit that she made me lose it a couple of times. I loved how persistent she was. She knew exactly what she wanted in life. She always felt pressure from her family when it came to her career and to see her take a step towards the future that she deserved was simply amazing. I loved how she drove Luc nuts ... lol!! What I liked less about her is how she handled the whole situation about Luc's past. I know she's a reporter and that was her job to find the real story, but it still got to me. I absolutely loved Luc! My heart broke for him when his secrets were revealed. Luc knew that falling for Ava was dangerous. He wanted to keep her far away from his past. The only problem was that falling for her was inevitable. She got under his skin and each moment with her was making him feel alive again.

Ava and Luc were such amazing characters to fall in love with! Their chemistry pulls you in and never lets you go! You will be cheering for them just like I did. I loved how easy it was for Ava to talk to Luc. She always had something to say that would make him take a step out of his shell. It was beautiful to see them slowly falling in love.

It was fascinating to learn about Luc and the Moretti family. The author did an amazing job of describing each member of the family. It gives me a good idea of what to expect in the next books in this series. My favorite character was Luc's Nonna. She was a blast!!! She always had something to say and many times it would leave you speechless ... lol!!! I'm really happy about this new series and I can't wait to read more about New York's finest cops! ;)

Rating:

I give Frisk Me, by Lauren Layne, 4 flirty, chemistry-filled, romantic, page-turning, keep the parking ticket stars!

Excerpt:

She grinned as she caught the full impact of Luc Moretti in uniform. "It is you. Oh my gosh, can I get a picture with you? My uncle's a cop, and he says you've done wonders to restore the department's prestige."

"Um," Luc looked pained, and Ava was surprised to feel a surge of sympathy. She still had her suspicions that he secretly relished the attention, but it was clear he embarrassed at the moment.

It was exactly the moment she needed to shake off the sexual tension.

Ava reached forward and plucked the cute brunette's phone out of her hand. "Here, I'll take it."

"Thanks," the girl said, her eyes never leaving Luc's profile as he turned with a grimace towards the camera.

"Okay, I'll count to three," Ava said pointedly to the girl whose hand rested on Luc's abs as she moved in close, apparently oblivious to the camera and Ava.

But the girl knew what she was doing. As Ava got to three, the girl turned her head towards the camera with a well-timed hair flip, and the result was a picture-perfect moment between a stoic cop and adorable groupie.

Ava handed the phone back to the girl, who took it back reluctantly, likely because the motion meant letting go of Luc.

"So, Officer ..." The girl's eyelashes fluttered. As in actually fluttered.

Ava stuck her tongue in her cheek to hide her smirk. This should be good.

"Can I buy you a drink?"

"I'm on duty," he says, gesturing down at his gun.

The girl all but salivated and pressed on. "Oh I know. I was thinking whenever you got off. Or another day, if that would be better."

Luc's smile never wavered, but Ava was surprised to see that the polite grin seemed almost pasted on his face, as though he'd rather be anywhere else. Which didn't make sense. The guy was gorgeous.

"Actually, I'm sort of seeing someone."

He was?

Luc's announcement caused more of a tug than it should, but when she looked at him more closely, she noticed the way he wouldn't meet the girl's eye.

Officer Moretti was lying. And from the guilty look on his face, he didn't lie easily.

Ava all but shook her head. As far as excuses went, it was merely okay. Not a good enough explanation for a girl who looked like a lingerie model and had confidence radiating off her in waves. Girls like this one would I'm seeing someone as more as a challenge than a rejection.

"Lucky lady," the brunette said, wiggling closer to Luc. "But look, it doesn't work out between you two, I can give you my--"

"Hear that sweetie? At least someone thinks you're a lucky lady."

It took Ava several seconds to realize that Luc was talking to her.

Oh no. No freaking way ...

But he merely grinned, reaching out a hand and pulled her closer. She opened her mouth to tell him off, but there was something in his gaze -- desperation, maybe?--that had her hesitating. Ava let herself be pulled to his side, even sliding her arm around his waist, but the pinch she delivered to his side said he'd pay for the lie later. At least she tried to pinch. The man had like zero body fat.

The way their bodies pressed together caused a shiver of awareness over Ava. A shiver she ignored.

At least until he slid his hand over the small of her back, down over her waist until his fingers splayed over her hip as though they belonged there. And damn it, it felt like they did belong there.

Like she belonged here. With him

Oh, this was so not good.

"Oh my god," the girl said, her hand flattening against her chest. To her credit, she looked genuinely dismayed. "I'm so sorry. When I saw you guys standing here I thought you arguing--"

"We were," Ava said.

"Foreplay," Luc interrupted huskily, as his gaze raked down Ava's body. "It really revs her motors."

"Revs my motors?" Ava asked, pushing against him in annoyance. Because annoyance was safer than arousal. "Are you kidding me right now with the woman-as-car metaphors."

"You like it," he said, looping his arm casually around her neck while giving the girl a boyish grin.

"You know what else I'd like?" Ava hissed. "If you took your police baton, or whatever it's called, and shoved it up you--"

His mouth was on her before she could finish the sentence.

It was a quick kiss.

Just a hard stamp of shut-the-hell-up. There was no tongue, just the press of his mouth against hers, lingering only slight, but the kiss rocked Ava all the same.

Luc, on the other hand, seemed completely unaffected, and as soon as his mouth left hers, his eyes sought his admirer who was already walking away.

With a look of relief, he released Ava, who was still feeling a little unready from the feel of his lips on hers, however meaningless and quick it had been.

"What the hell was that?" she asked to his retreating back since he was already walking away.

He stopped and turned back. "What was that."

He turned around, but didn't stop moving as he walked backwards. "That, Sims, was a test."

She started after him. "Yeah? What did it prove?"

"That I like your mouth a hell of a lot better when it's not yapping. Now you coming, or what?"

Ava glared at his retreating back.

Yup, it was official. America's Hero was a total ass.

But the man could kiss.

Summary
Three years ago, Brynn Dalton made a rare error in judgment and had a one-night stand with the one man she swore would never get into her designer panties. Will Thatcher was exactly the type of sexy playboy that good girls like Brynn stayed away from. And when Will moved across the country just days after their fling, Brynn vowed to put him behind her, even as the memories haunt her.

Now Will Thatcher is back, and just in time to see Brynn's perfectly structured life begin to crumble. Her job is dull, her social life is tedious, and Brynn's perfect cardiologist boyfriend doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get to Tiffany & Co. More than ever, Brynn needs her childhood nemesis to keep his distance.
But Will isn't content to be Brynn's dirty little secret any longer. This time, he's out to show Brynn Dalton that the imperfect man might just be the best mistake of her life.

One Step Closer to The One
Lauren Layne is quickly rising to the top of my fav authors. Made for You is the 2nd book in The Best Mistakes Series and she delivers another hit. This was a great read! The first book in the Series was about Sophie and Grayson in which all of the same characters are in. This time around the main focus was on Brynn(Sophie’s sister) and Will(Sophie’s best friend) for as long as anyone can remember Will and Brynn have been at each others throats. There was a hugely epic scene between Brynn and Will in the first book that had me jumping up and down! I really wanted to see these two together so I instantly became their cheerleader!! Though there isn’t anything dark or haunting this dazzling little read is jam packed with emotion. I definitely recommend this series for those that are looking for a great fun banter filled read.

M-apped, Brynn has always had a plan but even with all of her accomplishments she feels as though something is missing.
A-ccustomed, James and Brynn are perfect for each other on paper but even with all of their similarities they are too dry together and seem to be drifting further and further apart.
D-etermination, Will has a strong resolve moving away three years ago may have seemed rash but he has a plan and Brynn doesn’t know whats about to hit her.
E-xcuses, Sophie and Will have been best friends for a very long time its this bond that cuts through all of the crap. Knowing Sophie has seen straight through him Will confesses his feelings.

F-ormulate, without a doubt there is an uncanny attraction between Brynn and Will but knowing her all too well Will meticulously plots a way to make her realize whats always been in front of her.
O-rdeal, blindsided with a breakup Brynn doesn’t know if she’s upset because it happened or upset because she feels a sense of relief at no longer being attached to James.
R-ebellion, throwing caution to the wind Brynn ditches all of her lists and careful planning. Taking a break from herself and making some drastic changes is just what she needs to really find herself.

Y-earning, being with Will is so natural but knowing things do not have a chance of becoming more Brynn refuses to let him see her heart. Passion unlike anything she’s ever known is not enough the fear of letting her heart go to Will is absolutely crippling Brynn.
O-bstacle, admissions of the heart are made freezing Brynn to the core shock steals her tongue and the price to pay is her happiness. A failed attempt to move on only cements her true feelings. Not willing to give up on what she knows is right Brynn makes the most difficult of sacrifices proving that her love is true and their happiness is what matters most.
U-nresolved, fifteen years ago Will saw something that was labeled “the one” ever since he has worked incredibly hard towards not only acquiring that dream but also the heart of the girl who has always held his.

Sigh** There are about 500 happy butterflies fluttering about in my heart and tummy right now! If your looking for a smart, sexy, sweet, full of fun moments and tons of sass read... then look no further this is the one for you. Layne delivers another hit! I can’t wait to see whats next in this wonderfully adorable series. Gray’s sister? I’m looking forward to seeing more of these wonderfully quirky characters that have captivated my heart! I most absolutely recommend this read!

My Fav’s

Will
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeep! Who knew this guy had it in him?! There were several times throughout the book that I felt he was a bit too harsh on Brynn but his love for her was incredible. Knowing the tension filled banter they’ve always shared Will felt comfortable pushing Brynn’s buttons. I was hoping these two would find a way to be happy and once it happened I could not stop smiling. Will does things pretty extremely and loving Brynn is not an exception. Knowing he is going to have a huge challenge ahead of him doesn’t stop him in the slightest. Rising to the occasion and exceeding all expectations Will takes what has always belonged to him.

Brynn
Very level headed. determined, motivated, and calculated. Thats Brynn’s exterior in a nut shell. Being with Will wakes something up in Brynn that calls to her soul. Strong willed she fights what her heart is telling her with every fiber. Realizing the truth was only part of Brynn’s dilemma. Trusting her heart in someone else's hands was what kept Brynn at bey. The pain of never knowing becomes too much shedding her persona is just what she needed to pursue the thing that matters most. Watching these two was a great deal of fun! I can’t wait to see more of them!! Fingers crossed.

My Rating
4.5 31, Birthday, Boston, Earrings, Headache, Neighbor, Cookies, Flat, Wine, Furniture, Hiatus, Mismatch, Fling, Tattoo, Hair, Ocean, Dinner, Dessert, Confession, Chicago, Lists, BBQ, High school Prom, The One, A love years in the making filled stars!! Eeeeep these two were absolutely to die for!

Review:

I have been waiting for the release of Made for You, by Lauren Layne, since the moment I finished reading Only with You, which is the first installment in The Best Mistake series. In Only with You we met Sophie and Gray. I was absolutely swept away when I read their fun and romantic journey together. In their book we also get a glimpse of the cats-and-dogs relationship that Brynn (Sophie's sister) had with Will (Sophie's best friend and a royal pain in her butt)

With the few scenes that Lauren Layne included of Brynn and Will in Only with You I knew that their book was totally going to make me laugh and swoon. These two can't stand each other. When Brynn decides that it's time to let go, she gives in to that sexual tension that has been building up for years with Will. Will is everything she does not want in a man. Yet again, she can't stay away. He knows exactly how to get under her skin and make her lose control. Will Brynn go back to her boring follow-the-list kind of life or will she give in to temptation and allow Will to make her feel things she has never felt before?

Eeeeeeep! This was such a fun reading escape!!! I absolutely adore Brynn and Will. I have to admit that even if I love them to pieces I wanted to shake some sense into these two a couple of times while reading their sweet, sexy, romantic journey. Will was kind of a douche nugget sometimes. I was like ... Oh no you didn't just say that!!!! Will!!!! He got a few virtual slaps in the face from me ... LOL!! Besides his douche moves and comments, I really fell for him. He's extremely charming and sexy. I don't blame my girl Brynn for falling for him. He's really a special kind of guy when you really take the time to get to know him. And, that is exactly what Brynn forgot to do these past years. Get to know him. She was so stuck in ''Brynn world'' that she did not see who the real Will was.

What happened between Brynn and Will in Only with You made me want to read their story and I was cheering for them to finally find their HEA together. Their chemistry was AMAZING and the banter between these two is out-of-this-world hilarious!!! I LOL so many times that my husband actually interrupted my reading (he knows that's a big no no when I read) and asked me who was making me laugh so much. These two characters gave me all kinds of different emotions while I read their journey. I really liked them both and what I liked the most is that they are characters that we can easily relate to.

Brynn was obsessed with all the LISTS in her life and I can see a bit of me in what she did. I think everybody at one point of their life make some kinds of list of what they want to accomplish by a certain age. It does not always happen the way we want it, but sometimes something better comes along. This is exactly what Brynn learned. I loved how the author wrote her ''Wild Brynn'' moments. It's scary when you try to let go of something. And, Brynn had to let go of her old personality to finally start living. Will was the perfect person to teach her how to feel alive again. He was a real pain in her butt sometimes, but you could really see that he wanted her to come out of her comfort zone and try something different.

I was happy to see that Sophie and Gray, as well as Sophie and Brynn's parents had a few scenes in this book. These characters are all charming and the moments that they all shared together are really special. Sophie and Will's friendship is heartwarming! They are a great example that a guy and a girl can totally be best friends.

The Best Mistake series is extremely addictive! I highly recommend it! After reading Only with You, I had high expectations for Made for You. Lauren Layne completely exceeded all of my expectations for this book! I absolutely see a reread of this series pretty soon. This series is the kind of series you hold on to when life gets chaotic and you need something that is going to put an instant smile on your face and make your heart happy.

Rating:

I give, Made for You, by Lauren Layne 4.5 sweet, sexy, fun, enemies-turn-to-lovers stars!

Excerpt
Brynn huffed. “I don’t know why I bother.”

“Bother with what?”

“Talking to you!” she said, shaking her keys in his face. “Just when I think you’re going to be nice, you get me all . . .”

Will took a small step closer. “Get you all what?”

Brynn swallowed dryly and resisted the urge to take a step backward. He was just inches away, and if she’d been slightly sweaty before she felt downright hot and bothered now.

“Please step away. Your man-stench is making my hair frizz.”

He didn’t move. “You didn’t finish your sentence. I get you all what? Riled? Panting? Hot?”

“I was going to say nauseated,” she snapped, starting to move around him.

He moved his body and blocked her way. “I don’t think so, Brynny.”

Brynn glanced at her watch and winced. Even with Will’s help, she was probably going to be late. In the time she’d spent arguing with him, she might as well have waited for AAA. At least then she wouldn’t be so . . . oh, damn, he was right. She was riled and hot. And possibly on the verge of panting.

Good Reads Summary

As their late nights at the office turn into hot morning-afters, they realize their Vegas misunderstanding may lead to the real thing . . .

The Way Ria See's It

Eeeeeep!!! What a super cute read! I highly, highly, recommend Only With You its my new favorite "office romance" centered book! The characters are so complex and lost but they manage to work out their issues. Ms Layne writes it flawlessly. There isn’t some dark horrible secret that knocks everyone on their but but their issues do come to ahead and I was absolutely crushed! Thats some stellar writing, my feelings were 100% invested in Sophie & Grayson. I loved the side characters as well down to the overbearing mother who only “wants whats best” for Sophie. I’ll definitely be following this series closely as its a new FAV of mine!!!

O-bligation, Sophie feels so completely out of her element. She has no choice but to apease the request that all the brides maids don trashy wear.
N-ightmare, the only thing more embarrassing than the ridiculous outfit she is wearing is being insulted by the very steamy very obtuse man with a glacier glare.
L-esson, being mistaken for a prostitute has brought a new prospective on Sophie’s life. Quitting her job at the local pub seemed like a logical if not haste step.
Y-anked, from her safe cocoon Sophie is ripped back into the elevator mishap that will change her life.

W-aiver, Grayson was expecting to never see that girl again. Seeing her in old jeans and a comfortable shirt surrounded by her family is a bit unnerving.
I-ndignation, perhaps confronting Sophie wasn’t so great of an idea but she unbalanced Grayson and set him on edge.
T-rust, offering Sophie a job will be his undoing but she has a way with him that actually makes him smile.
H-elp, meeting his siblings and his siblings taking a liking to Sophie warms his heart in a way he didn’t think was possible.

Y-earning, denying his feelings is no longer an option Sophie makes Grayson feel again its time he take a chance.
O-blivion, the gentle relationship between Gray and Sophie is now dust in the wind. Sophie is tired of living for everyone else its time to buckle down and find what makes her truly happy.
U-nchained, reserved and closed off was the way Gray expected to live his life until a little tornado of energy whirled about him and changed everything. Gray has made mistakes and knows he will again but he refuses to ever lose her.

Soooooo cereal super sweet! There was a weird moment where Brynn, Sophie’s sister dated Gray but luckily it ended up being just fine. This book is a great way to spend an afternoon. Like I stated earlier there wasn’t a deep and shocking earth shattering revelation, but one wasn't needed. I loved the story just the same. Sometimes its fun to read a well written entertaining book that pulls the reader into the pages. I loved the story line and the characters, combine that with Layne’s lovely writing and you’ve got yourself one heck of a read. So awesome we even got some great foreshadowing towards the next novel and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Ms Layne has a hit on her hands I’m looking forward to the direction of this series and the wonderful writing.

My Favs

Grayson

He was kind of a grumpy bear most of the time but its not without reason. We find out about his past and through a series of painful events we now have the man he is today. Its not easy but its understandable. Aside from being a bit abrasive and awkward with the social cues he was absolutely huggable. ;) Hey that’s what Sophie was there for right? Yep the chemistry between these two felt genuine. I really enjoyed the way they fell in love it was all very sweet. Let me tell you when Gray messes with their shaky at best relationship my stomach hit the floor. I could feel Sophie’s pain, even though it sucked it really helped her grow. Grayson has always worked hard towards his goals and he was not intending on letting Sophie go for one second. He made great strides towards becoming a better man I absolutely fell in love with him right away. He was exactly what Sophie needed.

Sophie

A peach, a plum, a pear, a flipping ball of sunshine, this girl can charm the rattler off a snake. Something about Grayson brings out a different side of Sophie. At first her goal was to get under his skin(which made me lol a lot) but somewhere along the line she found her self absolutely comfortable and open around him. Much like he was towards her. Their relationship was refreshing. Sophie’s past was not nearly as painful as Gray’s but always pretending to be perfect finally took its toll on her. Deciding what to do with her life always seemed like a looming punishment but with Gray’s help she will discover that and so much more.

My Rating

4.5 Bachelorette Party, Hooker Boots, Elevator Malfunction, Family Dinner, Bathroom Argument, New Hire, Animal Heads, Jeff, Coffee & Cream, Law School, Twins, Friends, Company Party, Maui, No regrets, Gentle Discovering New Love filled stars!!!!

Mikki's Review:

Only with You, by Lauren Layne, was an entertaining, romantic, fun and addictive novel! This was my first time reading a book by Lauren Layne, and let me tell you that it won't be my last! I really did not know what to expect. It took me less than two chapters and I was hanging to every word! Her writing style is captivating and her characters are fascinating! From the moment they met in that elevator in Vegas to the ending of their journey, which left me with a heart bursting with happiness, Sophie and Gray's love story was a breath of fresh air!

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Sophie Dalton wants to forget about that embarrassing night in Vegas. The night when a sexy stranger mistakes her for a prostitute. After that night, Sophie needs a new beginning. When her new boss turns out to be the stranger she met in the elevator, and her sister's new boyfriend, Sophie is left speechless. Working close to Mr. Icicle won't be easy, but Sophie is determined to make her boss come out of his shell.

This was an amazing reading escape! Sophie and Gray were awesome characters to follow. I loved their story from beginning to end! I loved Sophie! It was so easy to relate to her and I loved her sense of humor and how lovable she was. She was a ray of sunshine in Gray's cold world. I have to be honest and admit that it took me a few chapters to get used to Gray's behavior. He was more quiet than the usual alpha males that I love to read about, but he nonetheless stole my heart just as much! I absolutely fell for him just like Sophie did. It was slow, but intense all at once!

The banter between them was amazing!! Gray is a man of few words, but nobody got him fired up like Sophie. She suffered from a chronic case of verbal diarrhea whenever she was around him. LOL!!! I love this girl! She was funny and she knew exactly how to get under his skin. Holy Hot sexual tension!!! OMG!!! These two have some serious chemistry going on!

Only with You had an amazing cast of supporting characters that I loved as well. We got a glimpse into what we can expect in the next installment of The Best Mistake Series, which will be Made for You. I'm super excited for this next installment and I can't wait to see what's going to happen! Trust me when I say that you don't want to miss this series! I highly recommend it!

Overall, this is exactly the book that I needed to start my vacation, and I had the best time reading about Sophie and Gray's love story filled with swoony, steamy, fun and heartwarming moments! <3
