GR's Summary:

In the explosive new Hitman novel from the bestselling authors of Last Kiss and Last Hit a jungle mercenary and a female target find love on the run...

Mendoza: I grew up in the slums and lost everything I loved to poverty, illness, and death. I had only one skill to leverage myself out of my circumstances—violence. Being hired out as a mercenary hitman brought me money and built an empire. But all that I've fought for is in jeopardy. My next job: Steal secret information that could bring down world governments. Find my target. Destroy it. But then, I meet her.

Ava: Karma hates me. When my best friend Rose is kidnapped, I have no choice but to take a job as a mule for a pair of criminals intent on selling top-secret information to the highest bidder. I should have known that bad luck tends to cling, because the plane I'm on goes down. That I survived a crash-landing was a miracle. And so was being rescued by Rafe Mendoza—hot, sexy, dangerous. The thing is, he wants the information that I need to free Rose. I can't let him have it, but I need his help. And I need to fight this crazy attraction for this mercenary with hungry eyes. Rose is depending on me, and I won't let her down, no matter how appealing Rafe is.

My Thoughts:

I am a huge fan of the Hitman Series.  Whenever one of these books get released, I begin reading immediately.  Needless to say, I have been looking forward to Mendoza's story. From previous books in this series, we have learned that he is tough, brave, loyal, and a fierce protector of those in need.

Last Hope begins with Rafe Mendoza watching Ava, a beautiful model.  Ava has something that he needs, in order to save one of his men.  Unfortunately, Ava's best friend and only "family," Rose, is being held by a ruthless criminal by the name of Louis Duval.  Ava is being forced to do Duval's bidding, or he will kill Rose.

Rafe is watching Ava closely, so that he can get the information that she carries.  When Ava and Rafe are in a plane, it crashes in the middle of the Amazon Rain forest.  Rafe sticks close to Ava, and vows to protect her.  He knows that she is innocent, and sweet.  Ava and Mendoza quickly become taken with one another.  Unfortunately, they have to battle the rainforest, criminals that are after them, and a sexual conundrum that Rafe has faced his whole life.  Will they survive, and get to keep the passionate love that they have found in one another?

Last Hope was action packed, full of danger, suspense, and intrigue.  It was extremely fast-paced, passionate, and the kind of story you quickly fall in to.  My only critique is that some of the dialogue was a bit on the cheesy side, and some of the situations that Rafe and Ava found themselves in (such as the constant hard-on that Rafe faced while in Ava's presence, and sexual situations, while trying to survive in the jungle,) came across as unrealistic.  While Last Hope was not one of my favorite books in the series, I still enjoyed it, and would recommend it for fans of the series.

My Rating:

I give, Last Hope, by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick, 3.5 Action-Packed, Dangerous, and Temptation Filled Stars!

  1. I thought the whole monster in his pants bit was eye-roll worthy, but there was good stuff to like, too. Nice review!
