Summary
I may be a Prince, but there are things that trouble me about my father's royal rule—the forced abduction, experimentation, and torture of alien creatures. The king has a new prisoner who's a carefully kept secret...

There's a young female who belongs to a little-known civilization I have been studying extensively. They are human, belonging to a small, undeveloped planet called Earth. She is pretty in a way I find unusual and compelling. Sometimes I sneak into the adjoining cell and we talk about everything and nothing, even as I find myself yearning to touch her strange, soft skin.

Skin that is being subjected to invasive tests and experiments. A body that's scheduled for a live dissection in fifteen days. And a life that will be terminated unless I risk my future and life to help her escape...

Love is Love No Matter the Outward Differences

ERMERGERSH…I just realized the symbolism within the title of the book! Bravo, I love it when there is symbolism! Okay, though this was an interesting read it just wasn’t my cup of tea…I don’t know whether I will be reading the next books in this series or if there even will be any more. The ending was very thoughtful and perhaps my favorite part of the book. The author did an exceptional job of world building and held nothing back with regards to the story. Maybe this was too sci-fi for me? Honestly if the ending took place in the middle and more stuff happened I probably would have enjoyed it more. It wasn’t a bad read by any means but everything that took place just wasn’t really my thing.

The Story
, so there is a prince and an earthling captive. The author did a great job of world building every image played out in my head. My heart went out to America(the earthling captive) and I kept hoping she would find a way to survive. Garren(the alien prince) is destined to be king soon and once he is he will change the way things are done. The current king is a tyrant that uses force and fear to rule the millenniums, Garren wants to change that. Meeting America wasn’t a choice it was a pulling need. After the first time they met he knew action had to be taken much quicker. With the help of those closest to him Garren will do the unthinkable, discover the impossible, and defy his father. Love was never part of the plan but just because these two are different doesn’t mean they cannot share this complex emotion. Regardless of discrimination and persecution these two will unite their bodies and hearts.

The Characters
, everyone in this book had an integral part in making the story come together. America had a lovely voice even when faced with all consuming pain and despair she had the strength to mentally pull herself out of giving up. The fact she was able to open up and connect with Garren was lovely to see. Despite all the outward differences America saw Garren’s soul and she found safety in both his arms and his words. On the other side of the same token, Garren was able to embrace and accept America as the intelligent and beautiful creature she truly is. Garren’s dedication to do what is right was admirable though a prince by title he acts like the king his world needs. As I mentioned before falling in love wasn’t part of the plan, but these two shared a lot, ideals, desires, and passions. There were quite a few things I hoped would happen and they did so I’m happy to report that! The side characters were entertaining and really added depth even though they frustrated me at times…by the end I felt things were right and they were accepting.

The End
, aka my favorite part! Not because it was over but because our characters fought to be together against the cosmos and there is a bit of an hea if you know what I mean. I’m curious as to whether there will be a follow up to this first installment. There are a lot of things that have not been resolved but no further questions have been presented. It’s almost as though the author set this book up for more but at the same time left to where this could be a comfortable “you fill in the blanks” kind of ending. I hate those by the way…I always want to know the ultimate “what happens” you know the one I’m talking about like fade out 15 years later what became of the family dog and all that. However, with Gamma Rift I enjoyed the ending well enough that I wouldn’t feel cheated if there wasn’t more I will have to wait and see.

My Rating
3.0 Camping, Hum, Studies, Lab, Language, Blocks, Mist, Reverence, Sister, Protector, Shells, Atmosphere, Lion, Infection, Layers, Love, Defying the odds filled stars.

  2. I like these types and have a hard time picking through sci-fi rom so I appreciate your thoughtful review. I'll have to give it a go. Thanks for the warning that stuff is left a bit open and that the romance isn't the main event.

  3. Sometimes, the ending will make or break a book for me. But, I can also live with an ending that leaves room for more, but the author doesn't follow through. Those books for me that have that sudden ending without resolution, have to be full of wonderful aspects and characters that I don't care either way. Eleanor & Park was that for me. I'm quite happy with that abrupt ending. Still, it's nice that you at least liked this somewhat.
