Summary

Relocating to Arctic Norway would put a freeze on anyone's social life. For Leda Lindgren, with her crutches and a chip on her shoulder the size of her former Manhattan home, the frozen tundra is just as boring as it sounds. Until she meets her uncle's gorgeous employee.

Unfortunately, no matter how smoking hot the guy is, Roar comes with secrets as unnerving as his moving tattoos. And Leda doesn't trust him.

Roar shouldn't be drawn to the moody human girl with eyes that leave him weak in the knees. But when Leda gets shot by one of his enemies and survives, Roar finally understands why he's drawn to her: Leda is exactly what he was sent to Earth to find. A weapon of immense power capable of saving his planet.

She just doesn't know it yet.

Family Bonds That Never Existed Can Still Hurt

This synopsis and cover had me wanting to find out what was in store! Unfortunately, that is where the love ended. There was so much story to be told and the premise was unique. The characters were all very different and they had such promise this could have easily been a trilogy or at minimum 300 pages more. Everything felt choppy and somewhat contradicting there were two main characters and a plethora of secondary characters that should have been fleshed out fully and polished to create a cohesive captivating read from beginning to end. Sadly, this did not occur.

The Story,
like I mentioned before was unique there are two races of people vying for dominance of the other. Yet, out of nowhere we find out the good guys have done some bad things themselves. Lena is brutally tortured...she gets away and absolutely nothing comes of the entire event. It felt unnecessary, it felt as though that sympathetic situation was too harsh. Then when nothing came of it that series of events felt empty. I am a fan of insta-love, but this story of love felt a bit lacking. The reader is told how the characters feel for one and other and that was okay, but I wish Roar and Lena had some more time to find out about each other and get to know who they are. It felt long, confusing, and not tied up.

The Characters,
Roar is a super-hot alien but the reader isn’t brought into the workings of who he is and why it has to be him. We get a pretty cool name towards the end explaining a little bit of it but these are the things that make this story unique. It was hard to understand why these topics were not explored deeper. Lena suffers spinal bifida her character is all the stronger for it. The synopsis states she has a major chip on her shoulder and other than the obvious wrongs in her life she really doesn’t. Lena is a very smart gal with a big heart she has experienced a lot of loss but she is moving forward with her life. Until Roar, that’s when things start going haywire. I did enjoy her quite a bit. The several secondary characters of this story were a wonderful addition unfortunately the reader doesn’t get much deeper than a layer or two. Each beautiful character had so many of their own issues it would have been nice to see some resolution for them as well.

The End,
Other than the MAJOR beautiful scene where Lena has her aha moment there wasn’t much there. A promise of a threat. The world still has several unresolved issues. The threat that Lena and Roar still faced…There was some nice setup for a picture it yourself kind of ending. Unfortunately, I don’t care for endings where you insert whatever you want to happen. Ha I want an epilogue…I want all t’s crossed and i’s dotted.

My Rating

2.5 Fun and different premise. Beautiful cover. Insta - Love and I don’t know why…But, fun filled stars, nonetheless.

Book Review: Remember Yesterday (Forget Tomorrow #2) by Pintip Dunn

Remember Yesterday

Summary
Follow-up to the New York Times bestselling novel, Forget Tomorrow!

Would you change the past to protect your future?

Sixteen-year-old Jessa Stone is the most valuable citizen in Eden City. Her psychic abilities could lead to significant scientific discoveries, if only she’d let TechRA study her. But ten years ago, the scientists kidnapped and experimented on her, leading to severe ramifications for her sister, Callie. She’d much rather break into their labs and sabotage their research—starting with Tanner Callahan, budding scientist and the boy she loathes most at school.

The past isn’t what she assumed, though—and neither is Tanner. He’s not the arrogant jerk she thought he was. And his research opens the door to the possibility that Jessa can rectify a fatal mistake made a decade earlier. She’ll do anything to change the past and save her sister—even if it means teaming up with the enemy she swore to defeat.

Remember Yesterday

When I read the first book in this series I knew it would become one of my favorites! It still is and with each passing installment the expectations shoot up and the author meets and exceeds them every time! It has been a while since I have been immersed in this series so I was happy to see there was a novella in Logan’s POV. I scooped it up right away and was thrown into this world I have grown to love. I cannot stress the level of intelligence and imagination that’s required to pull off a story of this magnitude. There are stories that are linear point A to point B. Stories that jump from past to present and vise versa. There are stories that incorporate past present and future. BUT none that are as intricate and involved and so perfectly in sync as the Forget Tomorrow series. Seriously, I was nerding out by the end of this installment I could not believe my four little eyes! Bravo Mrs. Dun Bravo!

The Story,
I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this installment I’ve never read a sequel that takes place 10 years later but the Author really does a marvelous job! The first book in the series follows Callie as the lead Remember Yesterday follows Jessa her little sister that isn’t little anymore. Jessa is determined to make sure her sisters sacrifice was not in vein. After one of Jessa’s missions to stop the scientists doesn’t go as planned she needs intel from Tanner she needs to find out exactly what happened to her and what will happen to her. This means she must befriend the enemy which she is loathe to do but the truth is at the tip of her fingers and she cannot say no. I enjoyed the development of characters and though I missed Callie and Logan terribly I could not put this down. I read through the night for this one, I just had to find out what was next and could not stop myself until there was no more to read.

The Characters,
everyone is back well almost everyone. Jessa is no longer the 6 year old girl that was tortured by people trying to unlock her mind she has become a determined and steadfast gal. She and her best friend have been getting into trouble since she can remember. Tanner my goodness he was perfect the was the right amount of everything to make him sooooooo swoon worthy! Logan, boy oh boy his presence is a gentle reminder of what happened ten years ago. Though none of the characters are perfect they all provide pivotal help where needed most. I cannot get into details without revealing the tendrils of awesome that make up this story just know that each is placed perfectly. Also know the execution is magnificent.

The End,
Mind BLOWN. I pretty much want to leave it at that but give me a second to gush without giving anything away. Our suspicions about a certain character in the last book turn out to be true and the result is nothing short of perfect. The memories and events are tied together in perfect synchronicity I could not have asked for a more delicious nerd meal than what the ending turned out to be. To say I’m excited about the next book would be a gross understatement. I am waiting on baited breath for the next and EVERYONE who enjoys great reads needs to pick this up!

My Rating
5.0 HOLY LIMBO!!  I need more!! Stat! October cannot come soon enough ! This was such a fun read I couldn’t sleep epic filled stars!!!

Summary
Imagine a world where your destiny has already been decided...by your future self.

It's Callie’s seventeenth birthday and, like everyone else, she's eagerly awaiting her vision―a memory sent back in time to sculpt each citizen into the person they're meant to be. A world-class swimmer. A renowned scientist.

Or in Callie's case, a criminal.

In her vision, she sees herself murdering her gifted younger sister. Before she can process what it means, Callie is arrested and placed in Limbo―a hellish prison for those destined to break the law. With the help of her childhood crush, Logan, a boy she hasn’t spoken to in five years, she escapes.

But on the run from her future, as well as the government, Callie sets in motion a chain of events that she hopes will change her fate. If not, she must figure out how to protect her sister from the biggest threat of all—Callie, herself.

Ripples and Anchors Secrets and Conspiracy

Oooh la la! Secrets, secrets, secrets the theme is secrets. When I first read the synopsis I was immediately attracted to this story. I wasn’t sure how it would pan out because yikes…That’s pretty severe BUT!! I really enjoyed this read. The author did a marvelous job of world building and I really enjoyed so many concepts of this futuristic sci-fi world. I have to admit there were times when I was like what the what? Just when I thought I had it all figured out something crazy would happen. I recommend this for anyone who likes sci-fi or interesting little mind mystery’s.

The Story,
as we know from the synopsis people receive a memory from their future selves. Callie receives one that will make her entire existence shift. This is the beginning of many discoveries coming her way…Callie doesn’t understand why she was given the memory of killing her sister. Running seems to be her only option and she does but it seems fate has a strong hold on Callie. Trying to find answers about what is really going on with people and their memories seems impossible. With the help of people she has taken refuge with she will discover the agencies in power are being forced to break civil rights. All through this process Callie has reunited with her childhood love. With Logan’s help Callie discovers love is what drives her motives. Knowing what she and Logan share is only temporary Callie will focus on communicating and rescuing her sister. Determined to change the future Callie faces an ultimate sacrifice she is will to make.

The Characters,
Callie doesn’t understand love her life has been spent in the shadow of a father who abandoned her. Growing up Callie looked forward to receiving her memory of the future but once she does Callie realizes she has missed out on many things. I enjoyed her character because of the way she loves, fully and without measure. Callie is an average girl with an ability few know about. There is a deep connection between her and her sister but the reader doesn’t find out just how deep that connection is until well into the book. I hope in the next installment we see major growth. I want Callie to develop more confidence in herself and her abilities. I also hope we find out more about what is really going on in this wonderfully crafted sci-fi world. Logan, though he is strong physically and has a wonderful heart he is plagued by the mistakes of his past. Losing his brother has been very hard but their connection is strong and he will do what it takes to make him proud. Knowing that their time is short Logan pursues Callie because losing her friendship is just another great regret he harbors. I hope these two find a way to be together. Their friendship and love is very endearing.

The End,
wow talk about looming danger. Through the help of an unlikely source Callie figures out the truth. She knows she has to stop fate somehow so she sets off to stop the cycle and close the loop. The ending was really cliffy because…well I can’t say, just know I’m highly anticipating the next release. Many answers are revealed but there are a slew of additional questions I hope get answered in the next installment. I can’t wait to find out just exactly how future memories work. As I mentioned before I do recommend this book for YA and Sci-fi fans a like this is one that will have the reader engaged and trying to guess the out come at every turn.

My Rating

Five things I need in order to write

1. My iPhone. I have long-standing fibromyalgia/RSI, which means I can’t type on a keyboard without debilitating pain. Before smart phones, I coped by having a typist, taking exams orally (even the bar exam!), and using a voice-activation program such as Dragon Naturally Speaking. I made it work for about ten years, but I hated every minute of it. For whatever reason, I just don't enjoy dictating my words. And then, I got my first iPhone, and my life changed. I discovered I could type on the screen's keyboard with minimal pain, so long as it was locked in "portrait" position. (Even the keys in "landscape" position are too far apart for me.) I was so happy to be “typing” or at least “tapping out” my words again. Forget Tomorrow was the first novel I wrote on my iPhone. Since then I have written (almost) three more.

2. Recliner or high-backed chair. For the same reason as above, I need to support my neck and shoulders while I write. This is especially true during a flare-up. During one such period, I wrote my second book while I was lying flat on my back under a glass coffee table. My laptop was face down on top of the glass, and I dictated into a microphone. My pain is not usually that intense, so most of the time, a recliner or high-backed chair where I can rest my head will suffice.

3. Perrier. Regular, lime-flavored, or grapefruit-flavored. I have tried, on several occasions, to quit drinking soda. It was always so difficult – and then, I realized that it was the carbonation I liked, not the caffeine or sugar or flavor. So, I started drinking sparkling water, and I didn't miss soda at all! I've been soda-free for a couple years now, and I am addicted to Perrier. I probably go through half a dozen cans a day, and I can't write a single word unless I have a can by my side.

4. Blankets. Socks. Sweatshirts. Fingerless gloves. What can I say? I am SO COLD all the time -- bad circulation, I guess -- and I need to be nice and cozy in order to write. I have been known to show up at a writing friend's house for the afternoon with blankets, pillow, and slippers. I haven’t gone beyond the socks, sweatshirt, and gloves for the library yet, but you never know…

5. Okay, this one is bad. I kinda don't want to admit it, but here goes... Before I can start writing, I go to my phone's settings and turn on airplane mode, so that my text and internet is disabled. If I DON'T, then I will write two words, check my email, write another sentence, scroll through FB, look up some synonyms for an overused word, write a paragraph, and then hop over to Twitter or instagram... You get the idea. I get distracted SO EASILY and the only way for me to rack up a significant word count is to shut off my access.

There you have it! The five things I need in order to write. What am I missing? What do you need in order to write/read/study/work?

Wow!! Wasn't that inspiring?!! Thank you for stopping by and I can't wait for the next installment!
eeeee!
(((hugs)))

Time is running out for Stel Alaster. The Corridor, the only portal between First and Second Earth, is failing and the barriers between all twelve worlds are thinning. Using her unique ability to travel through the multiverse, Stel sets out to save the Corridor . . . and ends up discovering a mysterious new world.

In the sequel to The Corridor, will the thirteenth world hold the key to the Corridor’s secrets? Or will the portal implode and take every last universe down with it?

Who Said Anything About Another Universe

The Thirteenth World is the sequel to The Corridor. Although the first installment was a fun read my expectations for this one were high…I thought the last had a few holes and things that weren’t explained in layman’s terms for me were a little confusing or hard to grasp. The author did a great job in filling those holes and making everything flow nicely. I loved the concept of parallel universes and this idea really flourished under Willis’ careful planning. The cliffhanger from the first was pretty shocking and brutal but it was corrected in a plausible way. Everyone involved was involved again but this time actions were rectified and everything was believable and explained well enough. Through and through if this is the end of the series I can honestly say I will miss this world and these characters. If Mrs. Willis decides to give us more from Estele and her motley crew I would lap up the story like a thirsty puppy! Is this my favorite ever? No. It is however something I recommend for those looking for a quick and enjoyable sci-fi read.

The Story,  Gah! I despise giving away plot points so forgive me if I’m vague. Estele is now in the hands of the enemy and she knows she has to do something to save the multi-verse. Through this knowledge and the help of those that believe along the same lines as she. Estele will embark on an adventure through multiple universes searching for clues that will help her set the corridor right. Along the way feeling incredibly lonely she will find where her true home is and who she wants to spend the future with. There are plenty of surprises some endearing and some horrifying but through it all and overcoming all the odds Estele finds herself. Even though the cost means everything for her, Estele’s steadfast commitment to those she loves will push her to do what is right.

The Characters, Estele is just as wonderful as before but we see a definite growth. She learns what her heart truly wants without it being selfish if anything her actions are more selfless than before. Those around her that made several mistakes atone for their misbehavior. The reader was able to see changes in key players that added to the depth of this story. Our main guy was just as wonderful if not more than before. It was his love and unwavering trust in Estele that gave her the confidence to pursue the right albeit extremely dangerous path. I was beyond ecstatic to know all the characters had made proper amends for their misdeeds.

The End, although it was sad it was necessary. I really appreciated the authors commitment to the story line and to see it through. I like that most of the readers questions are answered but a lot was left pretty open. I’m pretty big when it comes to books that have nice little bows tying everything up so I don’t really care for endings that are like “go ahead give it your own spin” but all and all I’d say this was a job well done. Could I see another book in the future…Yes absolutely. Would I be okay if this is the last…sure why not. I can say with the utmost sincerity that I enjoyed this read and feel that those who are sci-fi fans would too.

My Rating
4.0 Darnit the corridor is acting up and everyone in multiple universes may surely die. I think I love you but this whole relationship thing sure is going to be hard…Hey look there, I’m going to college. A love from 2 planets is way more powerful than a love from 1 planet filled stars.

Everyone Knows There Must Be a Great Sacrifice For Peace

Bucket of tears. Buckets and buckets of tears. What an epic read that was!! The Author has weaved pure magic into the pages of this book! Darken the Stars is my favorite of this series. I honestly hope it isn’t the last. If you are reading this review YOU MUST add the first two and if you have read them and are on the fence regarding this one…I say what are you waiting for? DO it! Bartol takes the reader through several ups and downs. I really really really hope there is another book in the making because this was just to perfect of a read to not have complete resolution of all story lines. I will be stalking watching for a possible next book.

The Story
, GAH!!! This one was so good! It picks up right after Sea of Stars and is so full of amazing detail and knowledge of Ethar. Kyon has been searching for Kricket for years he was sent with a very calculated mission, but upon meeting Kricket he knew they were destined to be together. Through an exchange Kricket finds out exactly who her family really is. Sadly they aren’t what they should be and Kricket finds herself more alone than ever. Being near Kyon should make her sick but there is something about him she comes to know him better than anyone else. Piercing his fierce heart there isn’t anything he would not do for her and the reader can feel the passion and love within every caress. While Kricket is with Kyon war rages on and the house of Rafe is near complete demise. The brotherhood continues their deprive plans and at the helm Kyon’s father. He is Kricket’s number one threat but Kyon will stand by her defending her from the world. Secretly another group of outcasts plan to fulfill the prophecy on their terms using Kricket for their own elevation in power and then discarding of her as though she were nothing more than a useful tool turned to trash. Kricket has always been a powerful survivor and she fights for those she loves. We watch her willingly make sacrifices and difficult decisions because she knows that is the right path.

The Characters
, Kricket is more powerful than before. Drawing strength from her heart she will continue to show everyone she will not be caged or controlled. We get to see major development as she begins to maneuver through this world with confidence. Her intelligence and forthwith all are key in the days to come and situations she has to outwit. She proves herself time and time again as a fighter and my heart broke for her paper heart more times than I can count. She is truly everything and more in what a beautiful of heart and mind character should be. Kyon, his involvement with Kricket was like a dream to me. I’ve never disliked him, I’ve actually always liked him for Kricket and in this installment we really get to see how much they are meant to be together. Though Kyon is a bit unhinged I’ve always felt like there is more to him than he’s shown. I can happily say we see a different side of him. The side that is born of the love and connection he has with Kricket. I truly hope we get to see more of Kyon with Kricket and dare I say end up with her by his side. Trey, sigh this is a hard one for me…Kricket has always loved Trey from the very beginning but things have changed so much and there has been so much betrayal that I don’t want to see these two together. Where Kyon has relentlessly pursued Kricket and did everything for her and gave her everything just to know her. Trey just sits back to see what will happen instead of fighting for her until the very end. There was a point in book two where Trey openly states things may not work out for them, while Kyon promises they will always be together, that no one will ever come between them. I’m usually wrong in these situations but I think Kricket is perfect for Kyon and there is no one else, and I could easily see Trey falling in love with someone else…GAH! I know I’m going to be so wrong and so crushed!!! I’ll stop now cause I could go on all day! We get to meet the leaders of the war and a slew of key characters. I honestly hope we get another book because I feel like there is so much more that needs to happen.

The Ending
, just what I’ve come to expect from Bartol…Perfection with a dash of ominous energy. From the very beginning of this series everyone who meets Kricket wants something from her. Trey took her heart and there were times when I felt he used her for information. Kyon took her and all I saw was him trying to win her eternal love. If you don’t like love triangles then watch out because this one is a doozy. I on the other hand quite enjoy them even though I tend to pick the wrong guy, fingers crossed I get it right this time! The groups of people who underestimate and try to control Kricket are shown how much of a free spirit she truly is. As I mentioned before everyone wants something and in turn she gives everyone what they want. I can’t believe how she does it, but she lets her heart lead the way and the rest is history. Though a major plot point is resolved there are a few open story lines. So much sacrifice happens at the end that it is heart breaking. It had me in ugly tears. I’m hoping and wishing with all of my might that we get another book. Hopefully these characters I’ve come to love all find their way esp Kricket and Kyon*together* winky face.

My Rating
5.0 I read it TWICE because it was so FREAKING AWESOME I just had too, Sea Shells, Swim Lessons, Dreams, Betrayal, Abandoning, Mothers Best Friends, Shower, Love, Spix Memories, Date, Shadow World, Crowns, Broadcast, Torture, Consort, Annexed Area, Water, Goodbye, A New Chapter in A New World, New Beginnings, Hope Filled Stars!!!

About the Author
I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I'm writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they're real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I'll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter...and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my "writing uniform" consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. And they smile at my nerdy bookishness whenever I try to explain urban fantasy to them. In short, they get me, so they are perfect and I am blessed.
