Summary
Imagine a world where your destiny has already been decided...by your future self.

It's Callie’s seventeenth birthday and, like everyone else, she's eagerly awaiting her vision―a memory sent back in time to sculpt each citizen into the person they're meant to be. A world-class swimmer. A renowned scientist.

Or in Callie's case, a criminal.

In her vision, she sees herself murdering her gifted younger sister. Before she can process what it means, Callie is arrested and placed in Limbo―a hellish prison for those destined to break the law. With the help of her childhood crush, Logan, a boy she hasn’t spoken to in five years, she escapes.

But on the run from her future, as well as the government, Callie sets in motion a chain of events that she hopes will change her fate. If not, she must figure out how to protect her sister from the biggest threat of all—Callie, herself.

Ripples and Anchors Secrets and Conspiracy

Oooh la la! Secrets, secrets, secrets the theme is secrets. When I first read the synopsis I was immediately attracted to this story. I wasn’t sure how it would pan out because yikes…That’s pretty severe BUT!! I really enjoyed this read. The author did a marvelous job of world building and I really enjoyed so many concepts of this futuristic sci-fi world. I have to admit there were times when I was like what the what? Just when I thought I had it all figured out something crazy would happen. I recommend this for anyone who likes sci-fi or interesting little mind mystery’s.

The Story,
as we know from the synopsis people receive a memory from their future selves. Callie receives one that will make her entire existence shift. This is the beginning of many discoveries coming her way…Callie doesn’t understand why she was given the memory of killing her sister. Running seems to be her only option and she does but it seems fate has a strong hold on Callie. Trying to find answers about what is really going on with people and their memories seems impossible. With the help of people she has taken refuge with she will discover the agencies in power are being forced to break civil rights. All through this process Callie has reunited with her childhood love. With Logan’s help Callie discovers love is what drives her motives. Knowing what she and Logan share is only temporary Callie will focus on communicating and rescuing her sister. Determined to change the future Callie faces an ultimate sacrifice she is will to make.

The Characters,
Callie doesn’t understand love her life has been spent in the shadow of a father who abandoned her. Growing up Callie looked forward to receiving her memory of the future but once she does Callie realizes she has missed out on many things. I enjoyed her character because of the way she loves, fully and without measure. Callie is an average girl with an ability few know about. There is a deep connection between her and her sister but the reader doesn’t find out just how deep that connection is until well into the book. I hope in the next installment we see major growth. I want Callie to develop more confidence in herself and her abilities. I also hope we find out more about what is really going on in this wonderfully crafted sci-fi world. Logan, though he is strong physically and has a wonderful heart he is plagued by the mistakes of his past. Losing his brother has been very hard but their connection is strong and he will do what it takes to make him proud. Knowing that their time is short Logan pursues Callie because losing her friendship is just another great regret he harbors. I hope these two find a way to be together. Their friendship and love is very endearing.

The End,
wow talk about looming danger. Through the help of an unlikely source Callie figures out the truth. She knows she has to stop fate somehow so she sets off to stop the cycle and close the loop. The ending was really cliffy because…well I can’t say, just know I’m highly anticipating the next release. Many answers are revealed but there are a slew of additional questions I hope get answered in the next installment. I can’t wait to find out just exactly how future memories work. As I mentioned before I do recommend this book for YA and Sci-fi fans a like this is one that will have the reader engaged and trying to guess the out come at every turn.

My Rating
4.0 Birthday, Leaves, Memory, Limbo, Chanting, River, Woods, Jerky, Harmony, Friends, Log, Incident, Key, Extensions, Olivia, Mediocre, Syringe, Love, Park, Images of Memories Love filled stars!

Five things I need in order to write

1. My iPhone. I have long-standing fibromyalgia/RSI, which means I can’t type on a keyboard without debilitating pain. Before smart phones, I coped by having a typist, taking exams orally (even the bar exam!), and using a voice-activation program such as Dragon Naturally Speaking. I made it work for about ten years, but I hated every minute of it. For whatever reason, I just don't enjoy dictating my words. And then, I got my first iPhone, and my life changed. I discovered I could type on the screen's keyboard with minimal pain, so long as it was locked in "portrait" position. (Even the keys in "landscape" position are too far apart for me.) I was so happy to be “typing” or at least “tapping out” my words again. Forget Tomorrow was the first novel I wrote on my iPhone. Since then I have written (almost) three more.

2. Recliner or high-backed chair. For the same reason as above, I need to support my neck and shoulders while I write. This is especially true during a flare-up. During one such period, I wrote my second book while I was lying flat on my back under a glass coffee table. My laptop was face down on top of the glass, and I dictated into a microphone. My pain is not usually that intense, so most of the time, a recliner or high-backed chair where I can rest my head will suffice.

3. Perrier. Regular, lime-flavored, or grapefruit-flavored. I have tried, on several occasions, to quit drinking soda. It was always so difficult – and then, I realized that it was the carbonation I liked, not the caffeine or sugar or flavor. So, I started drinking sparkling water, and I didn't miss soda at all! I've been soda-free for a couple years now, and I am addicted to Perrier. I probably go through half a dozen cans a day, and I can't write a single word unless I have a can by my side.

4. Blankets. Socks. Sweatshirts. Fingerless gloves. What can I say? I am SO COLD all the time -- bad circulation, I guess -- and I need to be nice and cozy in order to write. I have been known to show up at a writing friend's house for the afternoon with blankets, pillow, and slippers. I haven’t gone beyond the socks, sweatshirt, and gloves for the library yet, but you never know…

5. Okay, this one is bad. I kinda don't want to admit it, but here goes... Before I can start writing, I go to my phone's settings and turn on airplane mode, so that my text and internet is disabled. If I DON'T, then I will write two words, check my email, write another sentence, scroll through FB, look up some synonyms for an overused word, write a paragraph, and then hop over to Twitter or instagram... You get the idea. I get distracted SO EASILY and the only way for me to rack up a significant word count is to shut off my access.

There you have it! The five things I need in order to write. What am I missing? What do you need in order to write/read/study/work?

Wow!! Wasn't that inspiring?!! Thank you for stopping by and I can't wait for the next installment!
eeeee!
(((hugs)))

Top Five Reasons to Bring a SEAL to the Beach

Hello all you Bookish Escapists!

Julie Ann Walker here, talking about my new romantic suspense series, Deep Six! The series revolves around six newly retired Navy SEALs who just can't seem to shake their past and the Navy SEAL motto that "the only easy day was yesterday." Set in the Florida Keys, the series is filled to the brim with all the good things: sun, sand, danger, action, and adventure. But the best thing about these books? The Navy SEALs! And in honor of those hunkalicious alpha hotties, I've compiled a top five list of reasons to bring a SEAL to the beach with you this summer. Without further ado...

REASON #5 - A man whose life is filled with weapons and warfare really knows how to enjoy the little things. Like a good beachy sunset! *sigh*

REASON #4 - He's an excellent swimmer. You never have to worry about being carried away by the tide when you have a Navy SEAL by your side. But you might get carried away by lust!

REASON #3 - His training means he's always prepared. Forgot your sunscreen? No worries. A Navy SEAL has you covered.

REASON #2 - He's good with his hands. There's nothing like a massage on the beach. And a Navy SEAL's strong, dexterous hands are sure to please.

REASON #1 - He looks ah-mah-ZING with his shirt off. I mean, you could just sit and look at him all day -- while sipping an umbrella drink, natch.

Don't have your very own Navy SEAL handy for your trip to the beach? Then get the next best thing: a copy of HELL OR HIGH WATER!

Sinful Rewards 12 –
Saying Goodbye to Bee, Hawke And Nicolas
Cynthia Sax

One of the most common questions reading buddies ask me is “What is the toughest part of writing?” For me, the toughest part is the last chapter or, in the case of Sinful Rewards, my sizzling hot 12 novella contemporary erotic romance series, the last novella.

I know, while writing this part of the story, that I’ll be saying good-bye to beloved characters. Yes, I’ll be able to reread the story and visit them but I’ll no longer be living in their world, listening to their every thought, experiencing every emotion.

What will I miss most about the characters in Sinful Rewards?

Bee/Belinda Bee, of all of the characters in Sinful Rewards, has grown the most. Our exhibitionist-in-training heroine started the serial with a fairly shallow view of others, herself, love, life. She’s endured quite a bit. These experiences have changed her.

I suspect she’ll continue to change, continue to make the transition from twenty-something new grad to mature, confident woman. She’s surrounded by strong female role models—her mom, Ellen, Lona. I can see them all influencing her. I’ll miss seeing that change.

Hawke
Hawke is a man of surprises. That’s what I’ll miss about our tattooed bad boy biker. He loves new experiences and sharing these new experiences with the people he loves. I doubt that he will ever have a ‘normal’ day. His job is constantly changing and he enjoys this aspect of it. I couldn’t guess what he’ll be doing a day, month, year after Sinful Rewards ends. I know he’ll have his loved ones, his team around him. He’s as loyal as Bee is, as committed to his friends, family, woman. But I don’t know what his day will entail.

Nicolas
Nicolas is the character I wish I had spent more time with. Our jellybean eating billionaire has emotional depths we haven’t even started to explore. I’ll miss his self-depreciating sarcasm and his feigned arrogance, the vulnerability he hides under his business bastard personae.

I’ll miss the characters from Sinful Rewards but I feel fortunate to have known them. They’ve changed me as much as, I suspect, I’ve changed them.

Are there characters from romance novels that you miss?

Excerpt:

Nicolas stands in the hallway, a sheepish smile on his beautiful face, and my small burst of joy dissipates, replaced by the dreaded malaise. He’s handsome, the lights shining on his black wavy hair, tanned skin, dark eyes. He’s immaculately dressed in a gray suit, white shirt, pink tie. He’s carrying ice cream, a small tub of Heavenly Hash cradled in his perfectly manicured fingers.

But he’s not Hawke. He’s not the man I love, the only person I want to see.

“Don’t look at me like that, Bee.” Nicolas pushes his way into the condo. “I had that situation with the New York build last night. There will be fancy events in the future.” He holds up the tub. “I brought ice cream.”

I summon a smile. “You forgot about me.” I take the ice cream from the dashing billionaire. “What do those articles I sent you say about forgetting friends?”

Nicolas grimaces. “You knew I was a bad friend.” He walks with me to the kitchen, smelling of expensive cologne and wealth.

“You’re not a bad friend.” I set two bowls and two spoons on the counter. “You’re a terrible friend.” I open the tub of ice cream.

The real estate developer settles his long lean body on a bar stool and dips a spoon in the container. “You’re not giving up on me, are you?” The lines carved between his perfect eyebrows belie his casual tone.

“I’d never give up on you.” I knock his sucked-clean spoon away and huddle over the tub, protecting the ice cream from impatient-billionaire-induced contamination. “Hawke doesn’t love me,” I blurt, needing to voice this, to share this with someone.

“He said that?” Nicolas steals a spoonful of ice cream from the bowl I’m filling.

“No.” I frown, scooping as fast as I can. “But he’s never said he loves me, either.” I push Nicolas’s bowl toward him.

His eyes sparkle. “I’ve never said I love ice cream.” He shovels the sweet treat into his mouth with a boyish glee. “But I do. Very much.” His lips curl upward. “The name of this flavor is perfect. It is heavenly.”

“Hawke doesn’t love me,” I repeat stubbornly, dishing out a smaller portion for myself.

“A good friend would agree with you.” Nicolas’s head is bent over his ice cream.

“You’re not a good friend.” I place the tub in the freezer compartment of the fridge. “What would you do?”

“I’d tell you that neither of you are acting rationally, that if craziness is a sign of love, Hawke has it much worse than you.” Nicolas licks his spoon. “He guards you like you’re the last piece of prime real estate on the planet. I’m taking my life into my hands by simply eating ice cream with you.”

I climb onto the bar stool beside him, his observations about Hawke’s protectiveness appeasing me, banishing some of my melancholy. “He cares about me.”

“No, he cares about his team.” The billionaire’s lips flatten grimly. “Disregarding all of my advice about maintaining his distance.” Nicolas believes remaining aloof from his employees makes painful staffing decisions less traumatic. “What Hawke feels for you is in an entirely different category.”

“It isn’t love.” Or is it?

Book Review: Ripped (Real, #5) by Katy Evans

Ripped
Real, #5
by Katy Evans

Released:
December 9th, 2014

Publisher:
Simon & Schuster

Source:
Publisher via NetGalley

Synopsis:

The fifth story in the new adult series that began with the New York Times bestseller REAL.

Every woman wants me--except the one I sing for.

Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about my band being in town.

But when you love a girl, you don't leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise. Any man with half a brain should know.

So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?

Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.

When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like I'm a god--but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl's not happy to see me.

Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that's her -- Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she's out for my blood.

That's alright. Let her come at me.

Because I'm out for her heart and, this time, there's no way she can stop me.

WRITING RIPPED By Katy Evans

RIPPED – I’m so excited to be sharing with everyone RIPPED, Real series book #5! :)

RIPPED began with Pandora, Brooke (Real, Mine and Remy) and Melanie’s (Rogue) goth friend. She’s such a wounded warrior and so bitter that I was completely hooked wanting to know—what happened? What made her like this? Why does she hate men so much?

And that’s how I met her man, Mackenna Jones.

He’s back in Seattle for the concert of the year, and Pandora hates him so much, she is still so stuck in the past for having loved (and lost) him when she was young, she’s determined to go pay him a visit and give him a little something to remember her by. Nothing nice, I assure you.

And that’s where RIPPED totally exploded for me. It’s one of those books where I couldn’t stop writing even for a second. It seemed like I just opened Pandora’s box of secrets and they came spilling out, one after the other. Memories, what truly happened in her eyes, in his eyes, their first kiss (sigh) and so much more. Their past is tumultuous and passionate and their present, when they reunite again, is just as passionate and rocky. They have a long way to go to their HEA but, though Pandora doesn’t feel she deserves it and has never let herself want it, Mackenna has another plan to conquer back his girl.

What I love about this couple in particular is how equal they seem—the push and the pull always kept me guessing as to who had control of the situation, sometimes Pandora had Mackenna by the pants, and plenty of others it was Mackenna who kept getting the upper hand, knowing each and every one of Pandora’s weaknesses (including that he is the main one.)

He is the boy she could never forget.

She is the girl no other girl has ever compared.

Things are about to get RIPPED during Mackenna’s concert tour when his manager thinks it brilliant to force Pandora to tag along. :)

Opening Pandora's Box is Finding A Pure and Innocent Heart
Woo Hoo! Everyone let me introduce you to the best rockstar love story I’ve ever read! Ms. Evans delivers another astounding read! Ripped was full of heart throbbing emotions and tummy dropping discoveries. This is Pan’s story and let me tell you its like a box full of surprises just like our girl pan.

glee animated GIF

I’ve been dying to read this for a really long time after finishing it I can say with utmost certainty there will not be a book written by Ms. Evans that I don’t read. Regardless of topic she has never disappointed and made all of her stories so different. Pan and McKenna are perfect for each other and their story completely blew me away.
love animated GIF

R-eserved, something about Pandora has always been kept away from everyone. Life has forced her to keep her heart hidden.
I-gnorant, Pan’s single most painful memory has come to town for a tour. Plan in toe Pan will see too it that McKenna does not leave Seattle without feeling at least a portion of the sting and humiliation she felt so many years ago.
P-lans, Pan was promised so many things but as it turned out those promises became fallacies. The pain in Pan’s heart wouldn’t let her see the full picture or realize some things didn’t quite add up. Now she is determined to fulfill her contract but McKenna is making this anything but easy.
P-an, McKenna has held a secret that he isn’t proud of but he would do anything for those he loves. He was bullied once but is determined to regain Pan’s trust. The anger he felt towards Pan was really his hearts way of fighting with him to win her back. McKenna means business he won’t let the past affect the future he wants with Pan. Even if it means tricking her McKenna plans on fulfilling all of the promises he once made.
E-nsure, Pan is so tired of all the secrets and half truths she will not continue living like this especially if she and McKenna actually have a chance. Facing him and opening up about everything will turn his world upside down. She knows how she feels so Pan will go into this with all of her cards facing up on the table.
D-estined, though young when it happened McKenna has known all along who belongs to him and now so does the world. Both made many mistakes but together they will work on building a future full of happiness and devotion.

Gah!!! That ending!! Wow.

This book gave me all of the feels. I knew Pan was a firecracker and getting into her head was absolutely everything I thought it would be. McKenna and Pan are made for each other its evident throughout the book. The connection the passion and the genuine real feelings these two share are too pure to hide. Bravo another hit in what has become one of my FAVORITE series EVER!! Every aspect of this story is off the charts good and all of my beloved characters make appearances. I can’t wait to see what’s next all I know is its guaranteed to be amazing!!!!
