Synopsis:

From the New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Wedding comes a novel about a man and a woman whose summer is about to get very, very steamy…

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn't mean she's opposed to casual dating—just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister's case, she's as determined to win as ever—even if that means teaming up with Ford…

Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He's willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. He might not be looking to settle down, but there's no denying the scorching attraction between them. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for…

Review:

Suddenly One Summer, by Julie James, was such a fun, sexy and page-turning reading escape! I have been wanting to read one of her books for the longest time!!! I have the first four books of her FBI/US Attorney series on my bookshelf. I picked up these beauties at one of my many trips to the bookstore. I did not have a chance to read them before I read Suddenly One Summer, but that will be changing now! I fell in love with Victoria and Ford and if the other characters for the previous books are anything like them, I know I will have a blast reading that series.

In Suddenly One Summer we follow divorce lawyer Victoria Slade and investigative journalist Ford Dixon. Victoria and Ford's are far from being the ''Can I borrow some sugar'' kind of neighbours. They can't stand each other ... Or so they think. When Victoria decides to help Ford sister, Nicole, the last thing she expected was to work so closely with her neighbour. As days go by, she sees Ford for who he really is. He's charming and irresistible. Victoria is skeptical when it comes to HEA's, but working closely with Ford is making her wish for more.

This was such a fantastic book! Julie James writing style is fantastic! I loved how she wrote Victoria and Ford's love story. They felt the attraction between them from the moment they met, but their slow building romance is what captured my heart. I got all the feels and my heart was ready to burst with happiness for these two incredibly addictive characters! I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed the banter between these two! OMG!! They are simply irresistible!!!!

Victoria and Ford were strong, confident and determined characters. I really appreciated that the author added many details from their pasts into the story. I felt like this made me connect with them even more! It has happened to me in the past that I have read a book and, by the end of it, I felt no connection whatsoever with the main characters. This was not the case with Suddenly One Summer. I really understood were their insecurities came from and what was causing them to act a certain way. I also loved reading about their work. They both have fascinating jobs and I had a blast learning about their careers.

The chemistry between Victoria and Ford was instant. Their little neighbourly fights got me all excited. I was cheering for both Victoria aka #TeamPressAndCrane and Ford aka #TeamCalvalcadeOfUnit4F. They knew exactly how to get under each other's skin. They had romantic, intense, steamy and unforgettable moments together. Both these characters opened up to each other about their insecurities. Their relationship felt real and it was easy to relate to them.

What I also loved about this book is the sublime cast of supporting characters. Victoria and Ford's friend and family added their own personal touch to this story! My favorite was Ford's best friend, Brooke. I can't wait to read her book! She was such a fantastic friend to Ford. I highly recommend Suddenly One Summer if Julie James is a new author for you. Even if you have not read her previous books, in the FBI/US Attorney series, you can enjoy this one as a standalone.

Rating:

I give Suddenly One Summer, by Julie James, 4.5 entertaining, romantic, flirty, engaging, please take note that unit 4F is closed for business stars!

  1. I think those ones where the attraction is immediate and then the rest builds slowly are far more believable. I have this one to read too - soon I hope not that I've read your review.
