This Game Is Getting All Too Real

He said: I like to keep under the radar and mostly hang out with my friends from the rez. But when I saved Riley Berenger from falling off a mountain, that rich suburban princess decided to try to save me.

She said: If I can help Sam Tracy win the heart of the girl he can't get over, I'll pay him back for helping me. I promised him I would, no matter what it takes.

Games Can Be Fun But Also Dangerous For The Heart

Okay lets start with the cover…It looks like a football field and the book is titled Played. I thought there were going to be sports involved but not at all. Sadly I was a little disappointed at that. Now on to the good stuff, this is the second book in the Hooked Series. In the first book we met Fred and Ryan in the second the focus is on Riley(Ryan’s sister) and Sam(a rez kid in love with Fred). The book was a fun read I enjoyed Riley’s antics and the fact she wanted to help those around her. Sam and Riley meet in an unconventional way and share a life altering experience. Sam has a lot of anger about his life and his circumstances but he has a beautiful soul. Riley feels indebted to him so she will try to help him as best as she can. Through a lot of mistakes and losing herself Riley realizes there is more to Sam than she’s ever admitted. Through a haze of turning into someone he doesn’t want to be Sam realizes the things he thought about Fred and Riley were completely wrong.

Both Sam and Riley are fundamentally unhappy for different reasons. Through mishap after mishap these two finally find their way. I enjoyed the way their relationship formed because it wasn’t a whirlwind the love these two shared developed just beneath the surface. From their first encounter there was something there and as the story developed their true feelings started surfacing. There were a few things these two did that I didn’t agree with but I’m glad they didn’t cause irreparable damage. The side characters were great I just ate up Sam’s family dynamic. From front to end this was an entertaining read that I recommend for anyone looking for a fun light veg on the couch YA read.

My Rating

4.0 Leadership, Nickname, Hill, Rain, Helicopter, Phone, Brother, Crush, Party, Photos, Scholarship, Counselor, Prom, Dream Basket Promise of Love filled stars.

  1. I like what you said about the romance and how it developed under the surface. Nice review, Ria!

  2. Yay to cute contemporary novels <3 I would expect sports to be involved as well seeing the cover, it's a bit disappointing they're not but it's okay. The romance sounds really cute though, the development sounds different than most love stories. Great review <3 Benish | Feminist Reflections

  3. I'm still trying to understand that there's no football in this book. Really? Why are they sitting on a football field then? At least the story was good.
