My Thoughts:

The Broken Bonds Books have been climatic, exhilarating, and suspenseful!  These books are my absolute favorite in the thriller/suspense genre.  The puzzles that Ms. Wolfe weaves are nothing short of genius.  She knows how to hook her readers and get them invested in the plot.  I have loved reading every characters viewpoint, from the lead detective, to the forensics specialist, to the profiler, and most of all the killer's.  CSI and Law and Order SVU are two of my favorite television programs, and when I am reading one of Ms. Wolfe's books, I feel like I too am in the middle of an intense, investigation!

As I began, With Ties that Bind, Book 2, I found the beginning of the story to be a lot slower paced than previous books.  However, I knew Ms. Wolfe would not let me down.  She never does!  At the fifty percent mark, the story took completely off, and I was riveted.  Holding my breath, biting my nails, and talking to my kindle; I was beyond hooked!

Book Two picks up right where the last book ended.  These books need to be read in sequential order, or you will be completely lost.  Detective Ethan "Quinn" and his team continue to hunt for the sadistic serial killer known as "The Alpha."  Quinn is in love with Lead Medical Examiner, Avery Johnson, and is determined to keep her safe.  She is a prime target for The Alpha, and has already been captured, victimized, and rescued twice.  Unfortunately, The Alpha is an extremely intelligent sociopath, who always seems to be many steps ahead of Detective Quinn and his team.

We also get Detective Quinn's partner, Agent and Criminal Profiler, Sadie Bonds, and her love interest Colton Reed, who were in the With Visions of Red Series.  This gives the reader a cast of interesting, well-fleshed out characters, that add to the allure and depth to the story.  They were the main characters in the previous series, and it is always like being reunited with good friends, when I get to read about them.

Questions of morality and ethics, add to the appeal of the plot.  Detective Quinn has always lead his life and career by a strict moral code.  He believes in the process of the justice system.  However, with his deep love for Avery, and need to keep her safe and protected; he finds himself questioning his moral code.  He struggles deeply when he learns certain information about his team, and this changes the way he looks at a couple of them.  Plus, he begins to question himself, which causes a great amount of distress and self-loathing.   I felt badly for Detective Quinn, and even began questioning what I would do in his situation.

Lead Medical Examiner Avery Johnson has done some things that she is not proud of.  She suffers from feelings of guilt and shame.  Avery is determined to capture "The Alpha," and rescue the girls he is abducting, torturing, and trafficking, before they end up being added to his list of gruesome murder victims.  Along the way, she finds herself falling more and more in love with Quinn, but doesn't feel worthy of him.  She struggles with coming clean to him about her secrets.

The With Visions of Red and Broken Bonds spin-off books are must reads!  They are phenomenal!  I always recommend them to book lovers that have a passion for suspenseful thrillers, forensics, and criminology!  I can't believe there is only one book left in this series.  I have to see how it all comes to an end.  I'm dying to know who "The Alpha" is, and just know it's going to be a familiar character that I don't suspect!

Book Review

Derision by Trisha Wolfe was a tantalizing read to say the least.  It goes deeply in to the dark desires of the world of S & M, as well as giving us a storyline that takes place in a law firm dealing with the case of an accused rapist.

The main character, Alexis Wilde, is working as an intern in the office of Lark and Gannet.  She is very meek, and others tend to walk all over her.  Alexis is attracted to one of the partners of the law firm, Chase Lark.  Little does she know, but she has captured his attention, and he can't stop the growing obsession that she has sparked in him. 

Chase is a dominant, and when he observes Alexis, he realizes that she is a true submissive; something that is rare and priceless in his world.  His business partners end up putting Chase into a position where he is forced to claim her, or else risk one of them taking the woman he desires.

When Alexis gets pulled into Chase's orbit, she has no idea what she has gotten herself in to.  Chase teaches her about S & M, and is able to give her all that she could ever need.  However, a dark cloud hangs over their shoulders, and neither could have anticipated that danger was right in their path....

Derision hooked me at the beginning when Alexis found herself in peril, and all I could do was wonder how she had gotten in the present position, and who was responsible for her sadistic torture.  This story was quite the page turner, and I was in suspense the whole way through!

At the beginning, Chase's preference for Alexis' humiliation bothered me and took me out of my comfort zone.  I didn't think that I was going to like him very much.  However, as he grew to truly care about and then love Alexis, and changed his tactics; I ended up caring about him.  While Alexis appeared weak at the beginning, Ms. Wolfe, did an excellent job of showing us how she could be submissive and strong, meek and powerful.  

The dynamic in S & M was very informative, entertaining, and interesting.  This story ended in such a way, that it closed some major plot points, while leaving room for a sequel.  I certainly hope that Ms. Wolfe continues Alexis and Chase's story.

My Thoughts:

I have become obsessed with Trisha Wolfe's Broken Bonds books.  These are the very best of the best dark erotic thriller romance stories filled to the brim with climatic suspense.  They leave readers on the edge of their seat, begging for more!  Be prepared, don't start this book unless you have enough time to read it all in one sitting, because if you are anything like me, you will not want to stop until the last page is read.  My life has been hectic with responsibility, therefore, I couldn't achieve this, and found myself obsessing throughout my entire day about Avery and Quinn's story.

The With Visions of Red Serial comes before With Ties that Bind, and needs to be read first to avoid major spoilers.  The Broken Bonds serial focused on Agent Sadie Bonds, Love interest Colton Reed, and a deranged serial killer.  Now, Sadie is a secondary character, and the Broken Bonds series focuses on two different characters.

Medical examiner Avery Johnson feels broken and forever changed after her traumatic capture and torture at the hands of a psychotic serial killer.  She has lost her libido, and is determined to get it back.  Therefore, she is using her skills to develop a solution to her problem.  She also finds herself engaging in perilous and risky behaviors, which is her way of dealing with the after effects of her traumatic experience.

Detective Ethan Quinn is struggling with his morality.  He has always seen things as black and white with no gray area, and done his job by the book.  However, while working his last case, the black and white lines got blurred, and forever changed Quinn's way of thinking about and doing his job.  He is very protective of Avery, and doesn't know how to help her, but is always there when she needs him.  When dead bodies begin turning up, and clues point to the very real possibility that Avery may be in danger again, Detective Quinn makes a promise that he will protect and not fail her again.

With Ties that Bind was a scorching hot read.  The close friendship and attraction shared by Avery and Quinn, along with the anticipation and longing for one another added to the sizzling quality of this story.  I was rooting for these two from the very beginning.  Avery knew that she wanted Quinn, but he kept trying to keep things between them platonic.  I wanted him to give in to his desires and toss out his rule book!

Ms. Wolfe gives us another mystery that will leave readers desperate to piece together and solve.  We get a little glimpse in to the killer's head, but I want to hear from him more.  I'm hoping the sequel will be chock-full of the killer's perspective so I can learn more about him, see what makes him tick, and begin to put the pieces of this puzzle together.  I'm already beginning to work out some theories, but I need more information.

All I can say is that the Broken Bonds Serial and Series are have-to-reads!  They are utterly fantastic!  We get everything that you could possibly want in a phenomenal read.  These stories take you in to the minds and lives of these characters.  Reality disappears, as you eat, breathe, and sleep characters who are so real and tangible.  The mystery, suspense, and thrilling and erotic plot gives you a reader's high, from which you will never want to come down.  Yes, I suffer from a major book hangover after I finish each and every one of these books.  Like a junkie, I am feigning for the sequel of With Ties that Bind.   There is no doubt in my mind that Ms. Wolfe is a master storyteller, and other writers could learn a lot from her.

The windowless room is freezing. Florescent lights hum, echoing off the cinderblock walls and tingeing the too bright, barren room in a sickly green hue. As soon as I was ushered inside, the bag was removed from my head and my lab coat was taken. 
     The thin blouse I’m left with does nothing to shield me from the frigid air. 
     I rub my arms to generate heat, giving myself something to concentrate on besides counting the seconds. I’ve only been locked inside for minutes, but panic threatens to pull me under when I imagine it turning into days. 
     So very different than before, but somehow just as frightening. I’m not shackled. I’m not drugged. I don’t, logically, think these people have the same intentions as my abductor did when he took me…but I can’t say that for certain. 
     As soon as I think I’m going to lose it and start banging on the steel door, I hear a click, and the door grinds open against the floor. 
     The man entering is tall and thickly built. He wears a mask. A Jason mask like on the horror movie. And he’s carrying a semiautomatic gun. My stomach plunges, free-fall. I want the bag back over my head. 
     He jerks his head. “Move. It’s ready.” 
     What’s ready? But I can’t work up the courage to ask. This man is not manhandling me, and somehow my feet move me in that direction. I’ve just simply lost my mind.      I shake my head. “What do you want from me?” I say to the room, hoping this unsettling PA system is two-way. 
     “It’s what we both want,” the voice responds. “I believe neither of us want any more dead girls littering up our beautiful streets. So you should get to work.” 
     I turn around and see the man with the gun standing watch at the only exit. 
     I face forward, lick my lips. “And if I can’t?” 
     The silence stretches out, endlessly taunting. I’m sure the decision to end my life has already been made. Then: “I really don’t think that’s an option for you, Miss Johnson.” A beat. “Best focus on the task at hand. You have one hour.”
