GR's Summary:

Torn between duty and survival, nothing can be the same.

Everything Ivy Morgan thought she knew has been turned on its head. After being betrayed and then nearly killed by the Prince of the Fae, she’s left bruised and devastated—and with an earth-shattering secret that she must keep at all costs. And if the Order finds out her secret, they’ll kill her.

Then there’s Ren Owens, the sexy, tattooed Elite member of the Order who has been sharing Ivy’s bed and claiming her heart. Their chemistry is smoking hot, but Ivy knows that Ren has always valued his duty to the Order above all else—he could never touch her if he knew the truth. That is, if he let her live at all. Yet how can she live with herself if she lies to him?

But as the Fae Prince begins to close in on Ivy, intent on permanently opening the gates to the Otherworld, Ivy is running out of options. If she doesn’t figure out who she can trust—and fast—it’s not only her heart that will be torn apart, but civilization itself.

My Thoughts:

Torn was the ultimate reading escape!  As I jumped in to the sequel of Wicked, I was carried away by the yumminess of Ren.  Jennifer Armentrout creates the most drool-worthy and dreamy male leads.  He captivated me with his sex-appeal, and the way he treated Ivy!  Tink continued to entertain with his ability to frustrate Ren, as well as his obsession with Amazon, The Walking Dead and getting a new kitten.  Tink is just all kinds of fabulousness with his ability to make me laugh, and let me tell you, he surprises readers in this installment, in a moment that you will never see coming!

Ivy grows tremendously as a character, in the sequel.  She becomes so much stronger, resilient, and courageous.  She is willing to sacrifice for the one she loves, and I admired her grit, stamina, and the constant fight in her!  She is truly a warrior!

The suspense escalates in this sequel of the Wicked Trilogy.  Secrets of the Order's history are revealed that were pretty shocking.  Also, we get some ominous new members to the New Orleans division in The Order, one of which Ren despises with good reason!  The prince is determined to woo Ivy, and remove Ren from the picture.  However, we see just how cold, manipulative, powerful, and unscrupulous he is in this sequel.  There was a ton of action, allies in the most unlikely of places, and plot twists that kept me glued to my kindle.

My Rating:

I give, Torn, by Jennifer L. Armentrout 5 Swoon-Worthy, Secrets Revealed, Danger, Trauma, and Suspense Filled Stars!!!

Book Excerpt:

I lifted my right hand, reaching for my iron stake out of instinct, even though I knew it would do no good against the prince.

“You shouldn’t do that.” His voice was deep with what reminded me of an English accent. “I know you want to, but it would be very, very unwise of you, Ivy.”

My hand twitched.

Creepy Prince smiled slightly. “Your friend has been very helpful.”

That got my hackles up. I slid my sunglasses onto my forehead and forced my tone to stay calm and level. “I’m sure she has. Speaking of Val, happen to know where I can find her?”

His lips curled in a semblance of a smile as he stepped closer. The prince was tall, taller than Ren, who was pushing six foot two. My entire back stiffened as I forced myself to hold my ground, even though every instinct demanded that I run and run super fast, because he had almost killed me once before. Correction. He would have definitely killed me if he hadn’t realized what I was and had, I guessed, healed me.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” he said, instead of answering my question, his pale blue eyes fixed on mine.

My hand curled into a useless fist. “That is extremely creepy to hear.”

That cold smile returned. “Why don’t we talk? There are seats across the way.”

“Yeah, that’s not going to happen.”

The slow smile increased but never reached his eyes. “Oh, I know it is.”

Fine hairs rose on my arms.

“What exactly can you do right now?” he said in the same coldly polite voice. “Refuse me?” Creepy Prince laughed, and it wasn’t a bad sound. Again, it was something that was just cold, as if he were mimicking what a human would do. “You can’t.”

“I can.” My palm itched to grab the thorn stake secured under my pant leg, but I held still. I might be reckless, but I wasn’t stupid.

“Really? I will have to beg to differ on that. You see, humans surround us. So many of them, and I have an extraordinary appetite.” His eyes appeared to glimmer as his gaze slithered from the top of my curly head down to my toes. “A rather impressive appetite for many, many things.”

“Okay. First off, ew.” My lip curled. “Secondly, I don’t want to hear about any of your appetites.”

One dark eyebrow rose. “Oh, but you should know that I could kill twenty of these humans in less than five seconds and feed on the rest, leaving them to believe that it was this little red-headed girl who murdered these innocent people.” His voice dropped even lower as he leaned in and icy air brushed my cheek. “You deny me this, those lives will be on your hands, little bird.”

Anger flushed hotly as my eyes met his. There wasn’t a single part of me that doubted anything he said. He had me. God, I hated to admit it, but he had me.

Excerpt Reveal: Torn by Jennifer L. Armentrout

TORN - cover

Excerpt

My fingers tightened around the slender remote. “I was thinking that if the prince can sense me, why hasn’t he showed up here?”

“I don’t know.” Tink came down to the coffee table and started marching across it. I’m not the prince, but if I was the prince, I’d be buying time.”

“Buying time?” I scooted to the edge of the couch.

“Yeah, because he’s got to win you over.” Tink swiped up the straw he’d had in his Coke. It was nearly the size of him. “That’s basically what he has to do if he wants to impregnate you.”

I cringed, like a full body cringe. “Please do not use the word impregnate ever again.”

“Why? That’s what he wants to do.” He started dancing with the straw, the kind of dancing you see in the clubs. Hips gyrating all over the place. “He knows coercing or tricking you isn’t going to get the deed done, so he’s probably trying to learn how not to be a sexed up dickhead.”

“Sexed up dickhead?” I repeated.

“Uh-huh.” Tink dipped the straw as one would a dancer. “Remember when I was telling you how I saw the prince getting it on with three females once? He’s totes sexed up. And he’s a dickhead. In other words, he has no empathy or compassion. No humanity.”

“Most fae don’t.”

Tink twirled the straw. “Yeah, but the ancients are worse. They’re as far away from human as you can get. He’s going to have to work on wooing you.”

I slowly shook my head. “That’s…” There were no words.

“That’s what I’d do.” Tink dropped the straw and whipped around toward me. “Or he’s plotting something major and any moment he’s going to knock down the front door and storm the place.”

“Wow.” A fine shiver curled down my spine. “That’s really a relaxing thought.”

He zipped over to the couch and sat on the arm. He tipped his head back and stared up at me. “Don’t worry. I’m here to protect you.”

I just looked at him, because other than ordering shit off of Amazon, the only strength he had was the unique ability to annoy the crap out of me while somehow still managing to be endearing.

Tink grinned. “Trust me, Ivy. The Prince is not going to want to mess with me.”

My Thoughts:

Monica Murphy is one of my go to authors when I want a really steamy, fast-past read.  She is in my Top 10 Favorite Authors/Auto-Buy List, and when I see her name on a book, I have come to expect a great book!  I'm starting to learn that while the Drew and Fable series is multi-layerd, full of angst, and has really involved story lines, The Billionaire Bachelors Club Series is light, fast paced reading, simpler, and the story lines aren't as complex.  Yet, what both of these series contain, are that special something that Ms. Murphy's name has come to mean to me.  Her books hold major swoon worthiness, hot sex, intensity, and drool-worthy male characters.

The first book in the Billionaire Bachelors Club Series was Crave, and focused on the love Story of Archer and Ivy.  Archer was a Billionaire playboy, and his close circle of friends included other Billionaire playboys, Gage and Matt.  These men made a a million dollar bet that they would be the last one to fall in love and settle down with a woman.  Each of the books in the Billionaire Bachelors Series focuses on a different Billionaire's love story.  Torn focuses on Gage, who is Archer's best friend, and Ivy's older brother.  At the age of 28, Gage is a successful and wealthy business man that deals in real estate.  He has set his sights on purchasing struggling businesses in Napa Valley, and his business savvy ensures that he will turn a profit.

Marina Knight has grown up in comfort and wealth from her family's successful real estate empire in Napa Valley.  Her larger passion stems from the little family owned bakery that has been in her family for many years.  Her father has entrusted her to run the bakery, along with her aunt, although she knows that her family expects her to fail.  Ever sense the downward spiral of the economy, Marina's father has been forced to sell off the family real estate one piece at a time.  Marina finds out that Gage is after hear family's property, and decides to confront him at an event.  However, Gage doesn't know who Marina is.  He just thinks that she's a beautiful woman, and wants to get to know her.  Gage flirts with her, and doesn't understand why she seems to dislike him.  These two end up being very attracted to one another, yet dislike each other at the same time.

There was a lot of push-pull in this story.  I enjoyed watching the transformation that Gage went through after he met Marina.  He had always been a workaholic, and didn't do relationships.  Gage was used to getting whatever he wanted.  Yet, Marina presented a challenge.  She didn't fall all over his feet like every other woman.  She was snarky, and kept him on his toes.  At times, I thought she was even a little hard on him.  I enjoyed watching Gage earn her trust, and come to the realization that work wasn't the most important thing in life.  He learned to loosen up, have fun, and care about someone else's needs more than his own.  Marina was an independent, witty, feisty, and fun character.  I loved how she stood up for herself, both to Gage, and her meddlesome mother.  Gage and Marina had an intense sexual chemistry, and I enjoyed how Ms. Murphy had these two characters play off of one another.

My Rating:

I give Torn 4 Fun, Fast-paced, Steamy, and Entertaining Stars.  If you enjoy enemies to lovers stories, with a push pull factor, non angst, and simple with detailed and steamy love scenes, read Torn.  I can't wait to read the next book in the series, which should be about Matt (Archer and Gage's good friend.)  Ms. Murphy, keep bringing on the Swoon!  I just can't get enough!!!!

My Favorite Quotes:

"I feel like I'm drowning.  In his taste, his hands, his scent, his overwhelming presence.  It's so confusing, what I'm feeling while in his arms.  I don't like him.  I don't want to want him.  But I do."  (eARC, Loc. 802)

~Marina

"Being with him makes me feel free.  It's exhilarating in the most scary, forbidden way.  He's temptation personified and for once in my life, I want to completely give in to sin and not worry about the consequences."  (eARC, Loc. 857)

~Marina

"I know we've gone through our ups and downs.  We've both made some dumb choices.  But I don't ever, ever regret meeting you.  Arguing with you.  Having angry sex with you.  My voice lowers.  Falling in love with you."  (eARC, Loc. 2473)

~Gage
