Suddenly she's rushing into the surf, getting up close and personal with the hottest guy she's ever laid hands on.

Charter boat captain Cole Donovan has no problem with a gorgeous woman throwing her arms around his neck in an effort to "save" him. In fact, he'd like to spend a lot more time skin-to-skin with Olivia. He's just not expecting that real trouble is about to come her way. Will it bring her deeper into Cole's heart, or will it be the end of Olivia's days in little Lucky Harbor?

Top 5 Couple's Costumes by Jill Shalvis

Nothing shouts “We are a couple!” more than wearing matching Halloween costumes. In He’s So Fine, my heroine Olivia isn’t sure about being in a couple with Cole. She is even more unsure about meeting his family…while wearing a costume. But she decides that if she is going to do it, she might as well go all in. Knowing that Cole is dressing as Captain Jack Sparrow, Olivia surprises him with a very sexy Ariel costume—because sitting down is an overrated skill when you can make a man drool.

In honor of this very sexy pirate and his mermaid I have gathered a list of the top 5 couples costumes.

#1 Mario and Princess Peach

#2 Lady and the Tramp (you can go either as dogs, or as a grand lady and ragged tramp)

#3 Dr. Who and his Tardis

#4 A deer and the famous “John” of your choice (you can say you are either “Dear John” or John Deere)

#5 Bird and a Bee

Excerpt from LUCKY IN LOVE

“Mallory.” There was a warning in that low, sexy tone of his, a very serious warning. She’d wanted a kiss, but hearing him say her name like that was almost as good. And now she wanted more. She wanted things she didn’t even have names for. So she wriggled some more, hoping like hell she was getting her message across because she wasn’t all that practiced in the bad girl department. Amy had been right; she needed lessons. She made a mental note to address this as well at the next chocoholics meeting. For now, she’d wing it.

“Yeah?”

“Are you coming on to me?”

“Well, technically, you’re on top of me,” she pointed out. “So I think that means that you’re coming on to me.”

With a groan, he pressed his forehead to hers and swore beneath his breath, and not the good kind of swear either. And though she should have seen this coming, she hadn’t.

He didn’t want her.

It was perfect, really. Perfect for the way the rest of the night had gone. Horrified, humiliated, she pushed at him. “Sorry. I got caught up in the moment. I’m not very good at this, obviously.”

He didn’t budge so she shoved him again. “Excuse me.”

He merely tightened his grip. “Not good at what, exactly?” he asked.

“Really? You need me to say it?”

When he just waited, she sighed. “Attracting men. I’m not good at attracting men. Now if you could please get off.”

He lifted his head and cupped the back of hers in one big hand, his eyes glinting with heat. “You first,” he said rough and gravelly, leaving no mistake to his meaning.

She gasped, and he took advantage of that to kiss her, his lips moving against hers until she gasped again, in sheer pleasure this time.

Things went a little crazy then. Ty’s mouth was firm and hungry, his tongue sliding against hers, and God, she’d almost forgotten what it was like to be kissed like this, like there was nothing on earth more important than her. That long-forgotten thrill of feeling soft and feminine rushed over her. Then Ty lifted his head, and she realized she was touching his face, the stubble on his jaw scraping against the pads of her fingers.

“To be clear,” he said, “I’m very attracted to you.” And she believed him because the proof of that statement was hard against her hip.

“I think it’s your eyes,” he said.

She was a little startled by the unexpected romance of that. And then she was drowning in his eyes, which were smoldering. But then they were kissing again, and she couldn’t think because he happened to be the world’s most amazing kisser. Ever. She lost herself in it for long moments, loving the fact that he didn’t seem to be in a hurry at all, or using the kiss as a means to an end. Kissing her was an act all unto itself, and she was panting for air when he finally broke from it. He shifted to pull away and she reflexively clutched at him. “Wait—We’re stopping?”

Dropping his head, he rubbed his jaw to hers. “Yeah.”

“But . . . why?”

He let out a low, innately male groan. “Because you’re not the fuck-a-stranger-in-a-storage-room-with-her-boss-waiting type of woman.”

Well, when he put it like that . . . Damn. Her inner bad girl retreated a little. More than a little. You don’t think you deserve to be happy.

Amy’s words floated in her head. No, she’d never been the type to let a stranger into her heart, much less her body.

But this wasn’t about her heart.

And Ty was no longer a complete stranger. He was the man who’d good-naturedly stepped in tonight when she’d needed him. Multiple times. He was the man who’d just given her the most amazing kiss of her life.

She wanted him to also be the man to vanquish her restlessness and loneliness. “I am for tonight,” she said, and wrapped herself around him.

Excerpt from AT LAST

“You were married?” She was surprised, though she shouldn’t have been. Matthew Bowers was a catch.

“For about twenty minutes,” he said. “Just after I got out of the military.”

“When you were a cop,” she said.

“Yeah.”

“Is that why she thought you weren’t family material?” she asked. “Because of your job?”

“Partly. And partly because I failed her. But mostly because she was pissed off at me.”

Amy wanted to ask how he’d failed, but that felt too intimate, especially given that she was lying in his arms with his ice pack on her ass. But his ex’s words didn’t make sense. He wasn’t the sort of guy to fail a stranger, much less someone he cared about. What he’d done for her today proved that. His job might have brought him here to check on her, but it hadn’t been his job or responsibility to stay the night with her and keep her safe.

And yet he’d stuck.

She’d had people in her life who had been responsible for her and hadn’t stuck. “Matt?”

His wordless response vibrated through his chest to hers, and he turned his head so that his face was in her hair, inhaling as he rubbed her back.

“I think you’re pretty good with people,” she said softly.

She could feel him smile against her. “Thanks,” he murmured. “Now tell me about you.”

“Nothing as interesting as you.”

“Try me,” he said.

That was the last thing she intended to do. “Well, I don’t have an ex-husband . . .”

“How about a mom? Dad? Siblings?”

“A mom. We’re not close.” An understatement, of course. Her mom had gotten pregnant as a teen and hadn’t been mom material. “I was raised by my grandma, but she’s gone now. She died when I was twelve.”

“Any other family?”

No one she wanted to talk about. “No.”

He tightened his arms around her, a small, protective, even slightly possessive gesture. It should have made her claustrophobic.

It didn’t.

They fell quiet after that, and Amy wouldn’t have imagined it possible since she was snuggled up against a very solid, very sexy man, but she actually fell asleep.

She woke up what must have been hours later, as dawn crept in, poking at the backs of her eyelids. For a moment, she stayed utterly still, struck by several things. One, she was no longer cold. In fact, she was quite warm, and the reason for that was because she’d wrapped herself like a pretzel around her heat source.

Matt.

She cracked open an eye and found him watching her from his own heavy-lidded gaze. He was looking pretty amused at the both of them. “Hey,” he said, and to go along with that bedroom gaze he also had a raspy early morning voice. Both were extremely distracting. He wasn’t looking like a forest ranger right now. He was looking sleepy, rumpled, and sexy as hell.

“Are you taking this anywhere?” he asked.

Not exactly a morning person, it took her brain a moment to process what he meant. And then she realized that by “this,” he was referring to the fact that her hand had drifted disturbingly low on his abs. If she moved her fingers even a fraction of an inch south . . . “Sorry!” Face hot, she pulled back and closed her eyes. “This is all Mallory’s fault.”

“Actually,” he said, looking down at his obvious erection. “It’s not.”

“No, I mean—” She broke off at his low, teasing laugh and felt her face flame again. “She sent you out here because she thinks something’s going on with us.”

“Is there something going on with us?”

She didn’t want to touch that with a ten-foot pole. Or an eight inch one. “It has nothing to do with us. It’s payback for how I set her up with Ty at the auction a few weeks back.”

“What if it’s not?”

She met his warm gaze. “Not what?”

“Payback,” he said.

Their legs were entwined. At some point in the night, the sleeping bag had fallen away so that there was no barrier between them. He was warm and hard.

Everywhere.

She felt herself soften as the heat of arousal built within her. Worse, her fingers itched with the need to touch him.

“Amy.” Matt’s voice was pure sin, not a warning so much as a statement, and her hands reacted without permission, migrating to his chest.

“Mm,” rumbled from his chest as he slid a hand into her hair, tilting her head up to his. He searched her gaze. “You’re all the way awake, right?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“Just making sure,” he said, then rolled her beneath him.

Excerpt from FOREVER AND A DAY

“There’s one last thing,” he said.

She wondered if he looked as good without his clothes. “What?”

“That ship sailed?” he asked, repeating her earlier words to Anna.

Again she tilted her head up. “I just meant we’ve been there, done that. We already kissed, remember?”

His gaze heated. Yeah, he remembered.

“And it was . . . fine.”

He’d probably shaved that morning but he had a shadow coming in. And his eyes. Fathomless dark pools, as always, giving nothing away of himself or his secrets. “The kiss was . . . fine,” he repeated, eyes narrowed.

“Well, yeah.” Fine plus amazing times infinity.

He just looked at her.

“Okay,” she admitted, sagging back against the door. “So it was a little better than fine. But I’m not looking for this. For a guy like you.”

“Like me,” he said slowly, as if the words didn’t quite compute any more easily than “fine” had. And probably they didn’t. Look at him. He could have chemistry with a brick wall. “It’s just that I’m not going to be in Lucky Harbor much longer, so while I’m here, I’m aiming for . . . fun.”

“Fun.”

“Yeah. It’s a new thing I’m trying.”

“And you think I’m not,” he said with a hint of disbelief, “fun.”

“It’s nothing personal.”

“Hmm.” He took a step toward her, and since there was already no place to go, she found herself once again sandwiched between the door and his deliciously hard body. His hands went to her hips, where they squeezed lightly and then slid up her sides, past her ribs, to her arms and her shoulders. By the time he got to her throat and cupped her face, her bones had gone AWOL.

“What are you doing?” she managed.

“Showing you how much fun I can be.”

Oh boy. Just his husky whisper sent a shiver down her spine, the sort of shiver a woman wasn’t supposed to get for a man she didn’t want to be attracted to. And then her body strained a little closer to him.

Bad body!

Josh’s eyes met hers and held. He was purposely building the anticipation, along with the heat working her from the inside out.

“Still think I’m not fun?” he asked softly.

“You’re not.” She swallowed hard. “You’re . . .”

He quirked a brow.

Hot and sexy, and damn. Fun. Which meant that she was in big trouble here, going-down-for-the-count kind of trouble. Time to wave the white flag, she decided. And she would. In just a minute . . .

“Say it, Grace.”

“Okay, so maybe you’re a little fun,” she admitted. “But—”

He nibbled her lower lip, soothing it with his tongue, then stroked and teased her with his mouth until she let out a helpless murmur of arousal and fisted her hands in his shirt. His eyes were heavy-lidded and sexy when he pulled back. “Bullshit, a little fun.” His mouth curved as he looked down.

Following his gaze, she realized she was still gripping his shirt. She forced herself to smooth her fingers over the wrinkles she’d left. “Fine. You’re a barrel of fun. Happy now?”

“Getting there.” His eyes were dark with lust and focused on hers, his hands on her back, fingers stroking her through the thin material of her dress. When he lowered his head, he did it slowly, giving her plenty of time to turn away.

She didn’t.

Their eyes held until his lips touched hers, and then her lashes swept down involuntarily. She couldn’t help it; his lips were warm, firm, and oh how just right . . .

With a deep, masculine groan, he threaded his hands through her hair and tilted her head to better suit him, parting her lips with his, kissing her lightly at first, then not so lightly. And then everything felt insistent and urgent, and all her bones melted.

By the time he broke the kiss, Grace was unsteady on her feet, and her breathing was more in line with a marathon run. “I’m not sure what that proved exactly,” she managed. Except he was the best kisser on the planet . . .

Can this unlikely couple defy the odds and win over the little town of Lucky

Harbor?

My Thoughts:

I was lucky to be given the opportunity to read, Always on My Mind (Lucky Harbor #8), recently, by Jill Shalvis.  This had been my first foray into Ms. Shalvis' writing, and I could instantly see why this author was such a popular, and stunning success!  The great news about the Lucky Harbor Series is that even though it has several installments, these books can be read as stand alones, or in any order, because they are companion novels.  In Always on My Mind, I got to know the main characters, Jack and Leah, and was introduced to certain secondary characters that really stuck out to me.  I met Luke and Ally, whose story was before the one I read, and Ben and Aubrey.  When I got offered to read Ben and Aubrey's story, I was thrilled!  Ben came off as a very mysterious, quiet, and loyal man, and I instantly wanted to know more about him.  Aubrey came off as a snotty, piece of work, and I didn't like her character.  It was obvious that these two were attracted to one another, but I never would have guessed how passionate their love affair would become.

In Once in a Lifetime, we finally get Ben and Aubrey's story, and what an amazing story it was!  Ben lost his high school sweetheart, Hannah, five years ago, and never got over her accidental death.  For the five years after her death, he traveled to third world countries, ravaged by poverty and war, to put in water systems, and help the people make a living.  He ends up coming home, because he cheated death and it opened his eyes to the fact that he wanted to live and didn't want to put himself in danger anymore.  Lucky Harbor has always  been his home.  His Aunt Dee, cousin Jack, and their best friend Luke, are his family and he has missed them dearly.  Little by little, I fell in love with Ben.  He was the epitome of kindness, loyalty, and love.  Ben's character made me swoon; not for his sexual prowess, (though he was amazing in that respect too) but for the kind acts he did for others with no thought of anything in return.

Aubrey was a fascinating and very misunderstood character.  I realized that even though she liked to project an image of nonchalance, it was all just a facade, that she used to protect her heart.  No one could get past her tall and thick walls of protection, until Ben entered the picture!  These two had an all consuming passion.  When ever they were near, Aubrey got goosebumps and the sexual tension was off of the charts!!!  I loved the banter between Aubrey and Ben.  It was their form of foreplay.  Once in a Lifetime, was filled with realistic and well-constructed characters that were like ordinary people.  Sweet, Aunt Dee, who was a caring and nurturing mother figure for Ben, Lucille, the old and humorous well-meaning town gossip, and of course Jack, Luke, Leah, and Ally, were all my favorite characters.  This novel contained an array of subplots, each distinct in it's own special way, as Aubrey worked her way down a list of people, that she felt she needed to make amends to.  Ms. Shalvis has put her heart into this phenomenal novel and it is apparent that her talents are multi-faceted as she draws all these lives together in one spectacular connected township.  There was so much comedic relief flowing from these pages, as well as one spectacular and endearing love story!  I give, Once in a Lifetime, by Jill Shalvis, 4.5 Gritty, Sobering, Second Chances, Outrageously Hilarious, Romantic, Raging Inferno Filled Stars!!!

My Favorite Quote:

" 'I loved watching you work.  It might've been the pretty dresses that promised a softer side to you, a side I only got to see, but I loved watching you run this world-- your world.  I loved watching you find your place.  I loved watching you take me on and calling me on all my s***.'  He ran a finger along her temple and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.'  I love your spirit, your passion.  I love everything about you.  I love you Aubrey."

Book Excerpt:

“You’re incredible, Ben, you know that? You’re an insensitive, first-class jerk, and–”
He leaned in. “And what?” he asked, voice dangerously low.
“And…” Stymied at her ridiculous and constant reaction to him, Aubrey put her hands to his chest to give him another shove, but somehow got her wires crossed and she fisted his shirt instead.
“Dare me,” he said softly.

Oh, how she hated how well he knew her. “I dare you to kiss me,” she whispered, and then to make sure he did, she put her mouth on his first…

GR's Summary:

THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING

After dropping out of pastry school and messing up her big break on a reality cooking show, Leah Sullivan needs to accomplish something in her life. But when she returns home to Lucky Harbor, she finds herself distracted by her best friend, Jack Harper. In an effort to cheer up Jack's ailing mother, Dee, Leah tells a little fib - that she and Jack are more than just friends. Soon pretending to be hot-and-heavy with this hunky firefighter feels too real to handle . . .

No-strings attachments suit Jack just fine - perfect for keeping the risk of heartbreak away. But as Jack and Leah break every one of their "just friends" rules, he longs to turn their pretend relationship into something permanent. Do best friends know too much about each other to risk falling in love? Or will Jack and Leah discover something new about each other in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

 My Thoughts:

Always on My Mind by Jill Shalvis is the eighth story in the Lucky Harbor Series.  Yet, it is the first book that I have read by Jill Shalvis.  Each of these books can be read as a stand alone, because they are about different main characters, but some of the secondary characters get their own story in the series.  Always on My Mind is about Jack Harper, a hot, sexy and heroic firefighter, and Leah Sullivan, a talented baker.  These two were next door neighbors growing up, and best friends.  They formed a special bond at a young age when Leah leaned on Jack as she grew up being verbally abused and put down by her father, as her mother stood by and never defended her.  Then, when Jack's firefighter father died at a young age, the only person he could talk to was his cousin Ben, and Leah.  Jack and Leah have always been attracted to one another, and had unspoken feelings between one another that they never acted on.

Then, Leah returns to Lucky Harbor to help her grandmother, Elsie, run her bakery because her health is failing her.  She has also always been close to Jack's mother, Dee, who is falling into a deep depression over her Cancer, and the fact that her son is getting older, but still not in a relationship, Leah fibs, and tells Dee that she is in a relationship with Jack.  Pretty soon, the whole town thinks that Jack and Leah are a couple, and what starts out as pretend leads to the most real relationship that both Jack, and Leah have ever had in their lives.

I loved Jack and Leah's story!  I enjoyed how well developed both characters were.  Jack was a firefighter, and Ms. Shalvis helps us see what the life of a firefighter is like through her character, as he worked through exhaustion when he was putting out fires, worked with the fire commissioner to capture a serial arsonist, and educated the community about fire safety.  I found all of this fascinating, and thought of my good friend whose husband is a firefighter, and the stress, anxiety, and traumatic vigil she goes through worrying about her husband being endangered by his career.  Leah was such a fun character that I could relate to.  I have a passion for baking, and I was intrigued as she created, and baked pastries for her grandmother's Bakery.  Plus, she was a lead participant in the current season of "Sweet Wars, " which was described like the reality show "Cupcake Wars," my favorite reality show. The community of Lucky Harbor consistently watched Leah in "Sweet Wars, " and she was treated like a celebrity in her town.

The secondary characters within the story were a lot of fun, and added a layer of depth, and authenticity to the story.  I enjoyed getting to know Jack's cousin Ben, and his best friend Luke.  I also enjoyed Leah's two good friends Ali, and Aubrey.  I can't wait to read these characters stories in the series!  The town gossip, Lucille, was hilarious!  She was a little old lady who would pay people for pictures, and she would post them, along with her gossip report on Facebook!  I loved getting to know Leah's grandmother Elsie, and Jack's mother, Dee.  Elsie was such a sweet and wise grandmother, and reminded me a lot of my Nana.  She was one of my favorite characters in this story.  Dee was a good mother, who thought the world of her son, and just wanted him to be happy.  She knew that Leah was the right woman for him, and held heavy burdens and guilt upon her shoulders.  I am excited to continue this series, and already cannot wait to be reunited with the fun cast of characters in Lucky Harbor, Washington.

My Rating:

I give Always on My Mind by Jill Shalvis 4 Stars filled with Sweetness, Swooning, Family, Friendships, and A Forever Kind of Love!  This story was an adorable and entertaining read within the beautiful, cozy and quaint town of Lucky Harbor.  There was humor, a sexy and heroic firefighter, an unforgettable cast of colorful characters, and an interesting sub plot full of mystery, and suspense.  This is my first story by Jill Shalvis, and I'm ready to get to know more about the characters that reside in the town of Lucky Harbor.  If you enjoy a romance with a slow burn, a solid foundation of friendship, and sexy and romantic scenes, you will enjoy Always on My Mind!

My Favorite Quotes:

"Serious trouble.  He was in serious trouble.  Because he had a taste of her now, a damn good taste, and it was better than he could have imagined, making him want the rest of her.  With his fingers still in her hair, he pulled her in tighter, slanting his mouth across hers for more.  She moved with him, into him, making the connection all the sweeter.  No.  Sweet wasn't the right word.  Hot.  She was so hot she was turning him inside out."  (Pg. 90)

~Jack

"Do you think I care what words you use to show me how you feel?  I don't need words.  I have the actions.  You watch out for me.  You watch out for my mom.  And my oversized drool-manufacturing dog.  You care so much about everyone else and their life, but when it comes to yours, you give up. "  (Pg. 253)

~Jack to Leah

"All my life, you've been my Almost.  He softened slightly, his gaze touching over the features of her face as if memorizing her.  I want you, Leah.  I've always wanted you.  But wanting isn't enough.  You have to fight for it too, and you're not going to."  (Pg. 255)

Q&A With Jill Shalvis

1. With all the food being described in the book did you find yourself eating more sweets than usual- or craving Ecclairs? (Leah’s specialty?)

I definitely ate a lot of cookies in the writing of this book, but that might have been the stress of having four teenage girls in the house at the same time…

2. In ALWAYS ON MY MIND, Leah has quite the shoe collection—do you share her love of shoes? How many pairs are in your closet?

I have too many to add up. Is that bad? That’s bad. BUT mine aren’t heels or anything fancy. They’re hiking boots, sneakers, ski boots, and flip flops. :-)

3. Leah had a horrible experience on a reality show. Do you watch reality TV? Do you have a favorite show?

I'm a bit of a reality tv show 'ho, to be honest. I watch a lot of cooking shows (even though I don't cook), I love Survivor (even though you'd have to put me on that show at gunpoint because I insist on having a fridge and toilet paper). I guess I imagined if I was on a reality show, it would go bad. So it was fun to do the same to Leah. :)
