Synopsis:

The Extreme Risk series—Tracy Wolff’s edgy, emotional take on the New Adult genre—continues with the story of a lost soul and the fearless beauty who inspires him to take a flying leap back into life.

Ash Lewis has poured every last ounce of his blood, sweat, and tears into reaching the very top of the professional snowboarding world—until the unthinkable happens. After the biggest competition win of his career, Ash’s mother and father are killed in a tragic accident. Unable to handle the idea of going back out on the snow to pursue the dream his parents shared with him, Ash feels that he has no choice but to walk away from snowboarding forever. Then he meets Tansy Hampton.

Wild, fun, and impulsive, Tansy has a different look and a new passion every week. As a cancer survivor who spent the past several years waiting to die, Tansy has a fresh perspective on life—even if she doesn’t have a clue about what she actually wants to do with it. But she’s determined to find out, and that means making the most of her time while she still can.

From the very beginning, their chemistry is intense. But while Ash can’t stop chasing the ghosts of what can never be, Tansy stays firmly focused on the possibilities the world holds for her—and for them. She’s already picked up the pieces of one shattered life. Now she’s determined to help Ash do the same.

Review

Shattered, by Tracy Wolff was a beautiful and heartwarming reading escape! When I read the first installment in the Extreme Risk Series, which is Ophelia and Z's story, I got to know and love all the characters that Tracy Wolff created. I knew that Ash was going to get his book next, but what I never expected was how heartbroken I was going to be by the end of Shredded. Yes, it was a ''take the virtual dustpan out'' moment. My heart was in a million pieces and I wanted to reach out and give Ash a hug! I knew that Shattered was going to be an emotional ride. Tracy Wolff exceeded all of my expectations for Tansy and Ash's story.

After tragedy strikes and leaves him feeling numb, snowboarder Ash Lewis' life spirals out of control. He puts his dreams on hold to take care of his little brother. When Tansy Hampton walks into his life she's like a soothing balm. Her sweetness, her support and the way she sees life makes him feel again. As the days go by, they start to get closer and neither of them can deny the attraction between them. Will Tansy find a way into Ash's heart? Will Ash be able to let go of the past and move forward with Tansy?

Tracy Wolff's writing style captivated me from the first moment I read Drive Me Crazy (Shaken Dirty Series) The chemistry between the main characters is electrifying, the secondary characters are all involved in the storyline, which brings an extra touch of awesomeness to the story and her writing style is fantastic! I am so happy that I discovered her amazing talent and her awesome books!

My connection with Tansy and Ash was instant. I crave that connection with the characters! For me when you establish that connection from the start you just don't read the story, you feel it! And, that's exactly what happened with Shattered. I not only read the story, I felt it! In many moments my heart was breaking for both these characters who have stolen a piece of my heart. Ash was so broken and lost when Tansy found him. She was like a breath of fresh air to him. Tansy was exactly what Ash needed to come out of that dark place where he was hiding since his world came crashing down.

Tansy was remarkable! Her strength is out of this world! The continuous support she has given Ash since the first moment she met him was inspiring! With everything that has happened to her, she was looking for who the real Tansy was, and by meeting Ash, and helping him out with his struggles she found herself. It was all about fun with Ash, until he literally swept her off her feet and made her feel all kinds of different emotions. It was beautiful, sweet, heartwarming, and might I add that these two have some extremely sexy moments together! Holy Moly! My kindle was on FIRE!

Ash was exactly who I expected him to be. He had such a tender heart! I loved how he took care of his little brother, his friendship with Z, Ophelia, Luc and Cam. The way he slowly, but deeply feel in love with Tansy. He was an incredible character to follow and I loved to see him grow has an individual. He was stubborn at times, but with the support of his friends and Tansy he understood that life has many twists and turns. No matter what it throws your way, you have to stand up strong and fight!

I had so much fun reconnecting with the whole gang from the Extreme Risk Series. They are awesome characters that I would see myself hanging out with! I love how I learned so much about snowboarding! Tracy Wolff makes it fun and interesting! I can't wait to read the next installment in this series! I haven't seen anything about Cam and Luc's story yet, but I'm crossing my fingers we will get a blurb and a release date pretty soon! :)

I give, Shattered, by Tracy Wolff 4.5 exciting, moving, fast-paced, emotional, sexy stars!

About the Author

Tracy Wolff collects books, English degrees and lipsticks and has been known to forget where—and sometimes who—she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story—something with a rainbow and a prince—and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel. By ten she’d read everything in the young adult and classics sections of her local bookstore, so in desperation her mom started her on romance novels. And from the first page of the first book, Tracy knew she’d found her life-long love. Now an English professor at her local community college, she writes romances that run the gamut from contemporary to paranormal to erotic suspense.

And for all of those who want the unedited version: Tracy Wolff lives with four men, teaches writing to local college students and spends as much time as she can manage immersed in worlds of her own creation. Married to the alpha hero of her dreams for twelve years, she is the mother of three young sons who spend most of their time trying to make her as crazy as possible.

Synopsis:

In this intense and exhilarating New Adult series debut, a hotshot snowboarder and a vulnerable rebel with a cause try to let go of the past—and find a future in each other.

Twenty-one-year-old professional snowboarder Z Michaels is the bad boy of Park City, Utah. He’s always had his pick of any girl in town—and on the competition circuit. But underneath his cool exterior is a young man in turmoil, trying to take the edge off tragedy by overindulging in sex and shredding the slopes. In fact, Z’s reckless behavior is a thinly veiled attempt to blunt his emotional suffering with physical pain.

Ophelia Richardson isn’t like any girl Z has ever met. Though she’s from New Orleans high society, she’s no Southern belle—and she’s not shy about being miserable in frozen, godforsaken Park City. But laying low is her only option after her ex, a rich boy who couldn’t take no for an answer, nearly killed her in a jealous rage. Following that terrifying encounter, the last thing Ophelia needs is a boyfriend—especially one as rich and arrogant as Z. But Ophelia soon discovers that he isn’t what he seems. If anything, Z may be even more damaged than she is.

Tormented by their pasts and feeling alone in the world, Z and Ophelia find a connection unlike any they’ve ever known. But with Ophelia hiding the details of her life in Louisiana and Z’s death wish reaching terrifying new heights, their relationship seems to be going downhill before it even begins—unless they can find the strength in each other to trust, grow, and love again.

Review

A few weeks ago I read my first book by author Tracy Wolff, which was Drive Me Crazyand I absolutely loved it! I was anxious to start reading the Extreme Risk Series. I loved the blurbs for both books and did you see those covers?!?!?! Hot!!

Two broken souls. One emotional ride. In Shredded we meet Ophelia and Z. The bad boy of the snowboarding circuit meets his match!

This was such a great read! I really did not know what to expect of this series. A few things happened when I started reading Shredded. I think it's actually the first book that I did not connect with both main characters from the start. Z was a big jerk and Ophelia got on my nerves with her attitude at the beginning. Even if my connection with Ophelia and Z was slow, my connection with Cam, Luc and Ash was instant! I just wanted to jump in the book and hang out with them! With that being said ... I did end up connecting with Z and Ophelia. I know exactly the moment that I did. I don't want to give anything away, but from that moment I really started to see the layers of pain that both characters were hiding.

Ophelia and Z had instant chemistry, but their romance was slow building. I actually liked that. You could actually see them fall for each other. They learned to let go of their past by trusting each other. Even if I did not connect with them at the beginning, I can't deny that their chemistry was HOT! Eeeep!!! The sexual tension at the beginning of the book was CRAZY!!!!

Z, Cam, Luc and Ash's love for snowboarding was contagious! I don't know much about the sport, but my heart was beating fast when I was reading the scenes about it. The only thing I would have to say is that all those snowboarding terms left me confused. I'm totally Team Ophelia and will say that Z ''Spins around a bunch of times.'' LOL!!!

Overall, I really enjoyed reading about Ophelia and Z's journey. The ending of this book is not an actual cliffhanger for this couple, but it leaves you hanging for the next book. My heart broke with the last words of the Epilogue :( I can't wait to start reading Ash's story and off course about Cam and Luc's story as well :)

GR's Summary:

Fans of Monica Murphy and Tammara Webber will savor this New Adult novel—a story about coming of age in the heat of the moment—from Julie Cross, the internationally bestselling author of the Tempest trilogy.

I used to be “Isabel Jenkins, child prodigy.” As lame as that sounds, at least it was an identity. But now I’m not sure what I am. I just failed the most important exam of my life—the emotional readiness test required to get into a medical residency program—and it turns out my parents can’t stand each other. Now I’m trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of my life, and that means re-enrolling as a college freshman, but this time I’m shutting the books and majoring in being eighteen.

But so far, my roommate hates me and I’m not into the party scene. The only good thing about school has been getting to know my insanely hot RA. Marshall Collins makes me wonder about everything I missed while I was growing up too fast. Pretty soon we’re hanging out constantly, but for the first time, I find myself wanting more than a no-strings-attached physical relationship. And the lesson I really need is one Marsh definitely can’t teach me: love. Because I’m going to be alone forever if I don’t learn fast.

Advance praise for Third Degree:

“With quirky characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and a touching romance, Third Degree is a refreshing entry in the New Adult genre. I can’t wait to read what Julie Cross comes up with next!”
—Roni Loren, bestselling author of Need You Tonight

“I fell for quirky, brainy, socially awkward child prodigy Izzy and even more so for her sweet, compassionate, and hot RA, Marshall. I was rooting for their happily-ever-after and was sighing with satisfaction by the end.”
—Christina Lee, author of the Between Breaths series

“Loved! Fans of Huntley Fitzpatrick’s My Life Next Door and Tammara Webber’s Easy will fall hard for this book.”
—Krista Ritchie, co-author of the Addicted to You series

My Thoughts:

Third Degree by Julie Cross was such a great story!  I wouldn't compare it to any other New Adult story that I have read.  It is a completely unique and fresh story in this genre! (Izzy), is a socially inept, 18 year old.  She was in foster care until the age of 5, when she was adopted by her father, a talented and successful surgeon, and her mother, a high school biology teacher.  Izzy was a child prodigy, and at they age of 18, is the youngest resident training to be a surgeon and follow in her father's footsteps.  However, all of Izzy's plans get turned upside down when she fails her emotional readiness examination.  She had planned on attending John Hopkins as a medical resident.  She is told that she can retest in six months, and makes the decision to enroll as a college freshman, so that she can experience the life of a typical student her age.

Izzy's lack of social skills had me blushing and ducking my head in embarrassment from the very beginning of the story.  It also had me laughing hysterically!  She had no verbal filter, completely lacked boundaries, and came off as emotionally stunted.  I felt very sorry for Izzy.  She didn't have any friends, lacked an emotional connection with others, and tended to put her foot in her mouth time and time again, without learning from her mistakes.  Izzy's life changes for the better when she meets her R.A, Marshall (Marsh).  I adored Marsh!  He was such a genuinely sweet, funny, and very nice guy.  Izzy and Marsh share an attraction.  When Marsh see's how Izzy's quirky personality gets her in to trouble, he decides to help her out.  Marsh is the kind of easy going guy that everyone loves and gets along with.  He quickly befriends Izzy, and helps her experience all of the things she missed out on as a prodigy.  In turn, she helps him with his anatomy class.  Feelings between the two of them blossom, and as complications arise, Izzy has to decide what she wants in her life.

I loved the dynamic between Izzy and Marsh.  Izzy went though a large amount of character growth in this story, and the catalyst for her transformation was Marsh.  He was so patient with her, and really loved who she was.  He helped her to adjust in social situations and called her out when she was crossing personal boundaries.  He was a great mediator between Izzy and others, and helped her to get along with others.  These two had a beautiful relationship.  It started off slowly, and developed in to something very real and believable.  Marshall taught Izzy sensitivity, compassion, and how to see her patients as people, and not just a medical chart.  There were certain surprises along the way that made me feel very emotional.  I also loved how each chapter began with medical facts, and how I learned a little bit about various diseases and treatments that were a part of the story.

My Rating:

I give Third Degree, by Julie Cross, 4 Hilarious, Entertaining, Touching, and Very Sweet Stars!  I loved learning new facts, and information from the medical field!  If you are looking for a New Adult Romance with a swoon-worthy, charming, and sexy good guy, and a completely unique plot, lacking the usual cliches, read Third Degree!

My Favorite Quotes:

"Pretty, and smart enough to commit crimes without leaving any forensic evidence--you're like a lethal weapon.  We should warn all the males on this floor."  (eARC, Loc. 292)

~Marshall

"I'm dying to tell him about the man with no one to call and make sure he knows that no matter what, when he's forty and injured in the ER, he can call me.  He can always call me.  Is this what love is?  (eARC, Loc. 4006)
