Synopsis:

Wealth, fame and a real-life romance she never expected—seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett lands it all when she agrees to become a pop star's fake girlfriend in this smart, utterly addictive novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt

Under ordinary circumstances, Oakley Ford and Vaughn Bennett would never even cross paths.

There's nothing ordinary about Oakley. This bad-boy pop star's got Grammy Awards, millions of fangirls and a reputation as a restless, too-charming troublemaker. But with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley needs to show the world he's settling down—and who better to help him than Vaughn, a part-time waitress trying to help her family get by? The very definition of ordinary.

Posing as his girlfriend, Vaughn will overhaul Oakley's image from troublemaker to serious artist. In return for enough money to put her brothers through college, she can endure outlandish Hollywood parties and carefully orchestrated Twitter exchanges. She'll fool the paparazzi and the groupies. She might even start fooling herself a little.

Because when ordinary rules no longer apply, there's no telling what your heart will do…

Review:

I absolutely fell in love with Erin Watt's writing style when I read The Royals Series. That was such a fascinating, intense and addictive series to follow. I was happy to find out that their next project was going to be a YA romance featuring a teen rock star. Fans of YA contemporary romance novels will be happy to know that there is a new book boyfriend in town! Oakley Ford is a teen phenomenon that will melt your heart!

I really enjoyed When It's Real. YA is not really a genre I read often so I was nervous about starting this reading journey. Vaughn Bennett and Oakley Ford need to play pretend to save Oakley's reputation and bring his music inspiration back on track. Vaughn needs the money so she agrees to play Oakley's fake girlfriend. What she did not expect was to develop real feelings for her fake rock star boyfriend. Things get complicated when Vaughn's real life gets tangled up with her fake life. People get jealous and the paparazzi are hungry to get the full scoop on the new girl that stole the heart of the most popular teen on the music scene. Playing pretend can get you burned, but falling unexpectedly in love makes it all so worth it.

I had so much fun on my reading journey! Vaughn and Oakley's chemistry was great and I loved their banter. It did take me a bit of time to connect with the story at the beginning. It only started to hold my attention around the 30% mark. Even if I did have trouble at the beginning, I really enjoyed the rest of the story and how Vaughn and Oakley opened up about their personal struggles.

The supporting cast of characters was AMAZING! I loved the scenes between Vaughn and her siblings. Vaughn and her sister are fantastic role models for their brothers. They have a beautiful and strong bond. My heart broke for Oakley's family situation. I wanted to jump in the book so bad and give him a hug. Erin Watt did a fantastic job with this book! It can be read as a standalone so this is the perfect way to discover Erin Watt's writing style.

Rating:

I give, When It's Real, by Erin Watt, 4 fun, fantastic, falling for your fake rock star boyfriend stars!
