Summary
The world of ghosts and spirits is nothing new to Anora Benson; she’s spent her whole life trying to ignore them, trying to be normal. But when the Pricolici, a group of ancient bounty hunters, are sent after her, Anora realizes she is more than just a medium.

As a witch she has power, power she doesn’t know how to use, power that makes her vulnerable to the demons that desire her gifts. Anora is alone and scared, forced to face the darkness on her own.

Then she meets Ethan, a handsome and mysterious stranger who shows up in her life right along with the magic, and he seems to know quite a bit about her and the Coven she hails from. Will she risk everything by trusting him or risk fighting alone?

Everyone Needs Their Own Guardian

Alright guys this one was tricky because I liked it. However I felt it was flawed. Not the characters but the story. There were several instances where the plot was heading towards a magical place then…it sadly fell short. I liked the cover and that summary! So fun right? So why did I like it if it fell short?…because it has potential, I zoomed through this read because I wanted to find out more. I will say Ms Goodwin is not very forthcoming with the deets and by the end I still had so many questions…from the beginning not newer ones from the end. Hey who knows maybe the next in the series is so spectacular because of all of the mystery. Who knows I may have to bee on the look out for the next, but i’m not clamoring to the bookstore for it.

The Story, Anora is a young witch who finds out she has a lot of powers and being a medium is only a portion of the truth. She has always felt different and a bit of an outcast but with the help of her animals, twin brother, and best friends things are pretty normal. It isn’t until a change within the family that things really start to go crazy. Anora is left with maneuvering through life and trying to figure out more about who she is. Cue the super sexy demon hunter that meshes with her perfectly. The ease of their love was a wonderful addition to the story. Anora is in serious danger and it becomes a race against time to save those she loves. All of that sounds great right? It was, it was…BUT we DONT FIND OUT?!! Okay okay we find out who she is but no why. Someone promises Anora some answers in a letter, but they never come. There is a guardian involved which was great but all of these major plot points just appeared out of thin air and aren’t explained. I don’t want to ruin this for someone who hasn’t read the novel so I can’t be specific w/o spoiling anything but…So many lovely threads had plenty of opportunities and I felt as though they should have been explored deeper. Thats why I’m torn…I liked it but gosh I felt pretty let down lots of times.

The Characters, Anora. Well I really liked her she was driven, loyal and smart. Not sensible though, I’d like to point that out. There so many parts of the story that she foolishly places herself in danger. I found myself saying…oh I bet she’s about to go outside into the woods…Then BAM!! Something would happen. So yeah not very sensible this one. Hey not that big of a deal though, and I did enjoy her relationship with her brother they seemed great with each other. Ethan! Wow this guy was awesome! He was always dashing of into danger but not tiptoeing and second guessing himself the way Anora did all of the time. He was a go getter from demons to hearts he knows what he wants and will do whatever is in his power to get it. Meeting Anora is everything he could ever want and more his fierce love for her pushes him to keep her safe. Secondary characters were typical high school personas. From jock to cheer every clic was represented well. I felt as though several characters acted out of character and it was never explained so maybe they were a-clowns i’m not sure.

The End, good news there isn’t a cliffhanger so that was good. Anora had grow and accept her fears in order to embrace her strength. I believe she does that adequately but by the end I felt like we still need more answers regarding her family. So many things I thought were left too open. I will say its those things that are pulling me towards the next in the series…I guess I’m going to have to wait out to see if I cave and just go for it…What the heck right yolo and I’m really wanting to know more about Anora’s family. Stay tuned hopefully the reader gets more deets by the end of the next.

  1. Well, this looks interesting. Still, I don't like it when I'm left feeling conflicted with a story. So many questions need answering! I'll have to see how the next book goes for you before I consider this. Great review!

  2. Witch stories are usually hit or miss with me. I'm concerned about being conflicted too. Think I'll pass.
