Synopsis:

Marcus Borden has always been used to power and control. After a crime-filled upbringing in a very harsh neighbourhood, Borden leaves his hometown, returning four years later mysteriously rich and unrecognizable, with one woman on his mind. A woman he'll never have. Pained by his devastating loss and filled with rage and guilt, Borden's world turns dark.

As a fiercely independent woman, Emma Warne knows all about hard living. Having kept to herself most of her life, the last thing she expects is to be thrust into the world of infamous criminal Marcus Borden, the dangerous man the entire city fears and loathes. But the more she pushes him away, the more he comes back, taking over her life and stripping her of her control she desperately clings to. Once Borden has his sights on her, Emma is going nowhere anytime soon, and what she doesn't expect least of all... is that she may not want to either.

Book 1 of 2.

******* WARNING: This is NOT a love triangle. This book contains sexual situations - of a very rough nature - violence, and strong language that may be offensive to some.*******

Review:

I am on a mission.

In less than 30 days I will be attending my first ever author signing. I'm so excited that I even dream about it! I wanted to make sure I got a chance to read at least one book for every author attending. I'm not quite there yet, but hopefully I'll accomplish my mission before the event :) I put the names of every authors I did not read in a bowl and picked one up. My first pick was author R.J. Lewis.

R.J. Lewis is a new to me author. I have a few of her books on my reading device, but never got the chance to read them. When I was trying to make up my mind on what book I should read, I decided to read her newest release. OMG!! I don't think I could have chosen a better book to start with! This book delivered from beginning to end! This is one reading escape I will not forget!

This story is divided in two parts. The first part is about Kate and Borden. The second part is about Emma and Borden. If you think this is a book with a love triangle, think again! This is simply the story of a man that has loved and lost. A man that is consumed by a darkness that only an explosion of colors could calm down. At the beginning of this book I was really not sure where the story was heading. I was a bit confused with the characters and I even though I read the blurb wrong. The more I read, the more I understood that this story was a mix of Borden's past with his future. One night will change his whole future and he does not even know it.

If I could resume in one word Emma and Borden's relationship it would be, INTOXICATING! Sweet baby Jesus!!! The chemistry and sexual tension between this two was out of this world! From the beginning, they have this love and hate relationship. Borden is a criminal you don't want to mess with but our feisty heroine, Emma, does not give a crap about that. From the moment Emma is caught at one of his clubs, witnessing something horrible, Borden makes her life miserable. He will push every single one of her buttons, until she gives him what he wants. As days go by, Emma and Borden develop a bond that is stronger than anything they ever expected. Borden knows that he should keep Emma far away, but he simply can't resist the calming effect she has on his life. Borden's past is catching up with him putting Emma in grave danger. Will Borden be able to protect Emma from the people that have marked his past?

This book was phenomenal! The beginning was a slow start for me. The more I read, the more I wanted to know about Borden. He's simply fascinating! I wanted to know every detail about his life and what made him into the man he is today. I have to admit that in more than one occasion I wished I could jump into the book and deliver some well-deserved slaps on that face! Borden was an irresistible a** most of the time. Getting under Emma's skin was his number one mission and he did a fantastic job at it. I did not agree with everything he did to her, but he's a pretty dark individual so I understood his need to control everything in his life. This was a dark romance after all and it's not all hearts and flowers in these stories.

I loved everything about Emma. She was a heroine that knew what she wanted. She knows how to play her cards, but she definitely did not expect to play the card of love in her battle against this powerful criminal. Her feelings towards him are unexpected and she can't understand why she's attracted to his dark personality. The more I read for Emma's POV, the more I connected with her. She had a difficult past as well and I think that is why they connected so well together. She understands where his pain comes from.

The feelings between these characters slowly grew as I turned the pages, but their chemistry was instant from the moment they met! If you are looking for a dark romance that will keep you at the edge of your seat and that is steamy and provocative, this book is it! When I read the blurb it mentioned that this was book 1 of 2. I was expecting the cliffhanger at the end and I kind of figured out how it was going to end. I'm anxiously waiting to read the next book in this series!

Rating:

I give Borden, by R.J. Lewis, 4.5 seductive, dark, intense, thrilling, explosive stars!

  3. I'm glad it's not a love triangle. I think I've had enough of those for a great while. But what is that boy wearing on the cover???
