*Read My Review Here

Blurb:

When your boyfriend bets YOU in a poker game, you better know when to run...

Bad enough Jade Frost's boyfriend drags her to a boring poker game. Even worse that he actually threw her into the betting pot during an intense round...and lost. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend.

Now she supposedly belongs to the ultra rich, extremely gorgeous Shep Prescott. He could have anything he wants yet he seems to be in hot pursuit of her. No matter how rude, how snarky, how impossible she acts, it doesn't stop him. More like her horrible behavior seems to make him want her more.

When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade's confused. There's more to Shep than the carefree rich charmer he portrays. No way could he want a serious relationship with her...or could he?

Blurb:

Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.

Tristan Chadwick is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.

Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?

My Thoughts:

The Rules Series makes for some sexy and light reading!  It is about cousins Shep, Tristan, best friend Gabe, and the women that tame these bad boys.  These three college guys live a life of wealth and privilege, are gorgeous, and use to women falling at their feet.  There group motto has been "one and done," because they don't want to have any commitments while in college.  However, we saw Shep, the biggest player of the group, fall in love with Jade in the first book in the series, Fair Game.  Now, we get Gabe and Lucy's story with, In the Dark.

Gabe's family runs his life.  They expect him to take over the family business when he graduates from college, and he accepts that he will also have to marry a woman in the same socio-economic class that meets his mother's expectations.  Therefore, he has decided to stay unattached and just play the field while he's in college.

The summer before Gabe returns to college, he is forced to spend with his family on vacation in Santa Barbara.  While he attends boring dinners at the country club with his parents and younger sister Sydney, and is expected to socialize with whom his parents choose, it feels as if Gabe is in a prison of misery.  Then, he see's the beautiful neighbor lying out by the pool and swimming day after day.  He can't take his eyes off of her, and fantasizes about her.  Finally, Gabe gets the courage to introduce himself to Lucy.  They embark on a passionate summer fling, and attempt to keep things light between one another, because they will eventually have to part ways.

Lucy comes from a single parent home.  Her mother got pregnant with her at the tender age of sixteen, and has warned Lucy to focus on her studies so that she will not have to struggle financially, like her mother has.  When she meets Gabe he assumes she's rich, because of the house she is staying in, and she let's him draw his own conclusions.  She is embarrassed by her lack of money, and figures that since they have agreed to a temporary fling, Gabe will never have to find out the truth.  Imagine Lucy's surprise when she transfers to her new college and has a class with Gabe.  Feelings have evolved between Lucy and Gabe, but what will happen when he finds out that Lucy lied to him?

In the Dark was such a fast-paced story.  I enjoyed the attraction, and constant push-pull between Lucy and Gabe, as well as Lucy's friendship with Gabe's sister, Sydney.  These two were very hot together.  I enjoyed the dynamic between Jade (Shep's girlfriend) and Lucy as well.  One of my favorite aspects of the story was watching Gabe's transformation from womanizer to man deeply in love.  I love it when a bad boy meets that one woman that can make him commit.  I am really looking forward to Tristan falling  in love as well.  He is a stubborn playboy who doesn't understand his two lovesick friends.  I can't wait to meet the woman who changes his ways!  I really love this series.  It's fun, sexy, light-hearted, and has a great dynamic of friendship, as well as characters with strong personalities!

My Rating:

I give, In the Dark, by Monica Muphy, 4 Instant Attraction, Secrets, Friendship, Another One Bites the Dust Filled Stars!
