GR's Summary:

With a famous NHL player for a step-brother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation many hockey stars come with. She’s smart enough to steer clear of those hot, well-built boys with unparalleled stamina. That is until she meets the legendary team captain—Alex Waters.

Violet isn’t interested in his pretty, beat-up face, or his rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s previous misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes more than just a hot body with a face to match.

In what can only be considered a complete lapse in judgment, Violet finds out just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. But what starts out as a one-night stand, quickly turns into something more. Post-night of orgasmic magic, Alex starts to call, and text, and e-mail and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts, making him difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to like.

The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.

Lindy's Thoughts:

Pucked is the first story that I've read by Helena Hunting.  I've heard great things about her previous books, from readers whose opinions I trust.  So, I was giddy with excitement when I heard about this book.  I love sports romance, and with that sexy book cover, in addition to the summary, Pucked went to the very top of my TBR.

In this story, we learn about Violet Hall and Alex Waters. Violet's step-brother, Buck, is part of the NHL.  He is a huge womanizer, and when he get's caught with the coach's daughter, he gets traded to a new team.  Violet doesn't date hockey players.  After seeing the way Buck is with women, and having a bad experience with a player six months ago, she hasn't dated anyone else.  When her mother and stepfather take her to a hockey game to see Buck play on his new team, Violet notices the gorgeous Team Captain, Alex Waters.

Alex has quite a reputation with the ladies.  However, most of it is exaggerated by the media, and he hasn't corrected these false assumptions, due to the advice of his agent.  When he meets Violet, he thinks she's gorgeous and has a nice rack.  They make out, and later have the best sex of both of their lives.

However, Violet doesn't trust Alex, or any Hockey Player for that matter.  Buck doesn't help the situation, and instead warns his step-sister away from Alex.   Yet, Alex makes it impossible to forget about him.  He sends her thoughtful gifts, flowers, sweet text messages, emails, and is very endearing.  Will Alex's bad boy reputation ruin his chances with Violet?  Or, will he prove to her that not all hockey players want no-strings attached sexcapades?

Pucked was a fun, adventurous, and a very wild read!  I loved this story!  It was fast-paced, full of fun and laughs, steamy love scenes, and humor.  Pucked is a story that romance readers are either going to love or hate.  I don't think there will be very much in between.  Let me tell you why.  Violet's character has a quirky personality, and off beat sense of humor.  She has a crude and bawdy way of speaking.  Some readers will not enjoy, and may even be offended by Violet's manner.  It did not bother me in the least!  I found it added to the entertainment of the story, made me laugh out loud, and devour the book in record time.

Alex was a sweetheart.  He was so kind, considerate,  thoughtful, and shared Violet's quirky sense of humor.  Not to mention, that he was intellectual and well-read.  Violet's mom was a hoot!  She was fun, liked to over share her sexual adventures, had limited boundaries, and treated Violet like a friend.  Pucked had a few fun plot twists, an abundance of passion, romance, and off color humor!
My Rating:

I give, Pucked, by Helena Hunting, 4.5 Magic Monster Stick, Waters' Beaver, Laugh Out Loud, Up Beat, Pulsating Passion Filled Stars!

Mikki's Review:

Oh my, Squeeeeee!!!!

Pucked, by Helena Hunting, was FANTASTIC!!! I can't remember the last time that I laughed this much while reading a book! It was my first time reading a book by this author. I heard many amazing things about her books and I wanted to start my "Helena Hunting reading marathon" with Pucked. I will be meeting her for the first time in September, at a book signing, here in Montreal :)

The things that caught my attention were the cover and the blurb. Helloooooooo!!!! That cover ... Alex Waters and his Magic Monster Stick (Not shown on the cover ... lol) but please feel free to visualize it! This hockey player is talented on and off the ice. This book is exactly what I needed during the playoffs. Hockey romance novels are some of my favorites since I'm such a big hockey fan.

Violet Hall does not date hockey players. After a bad experience with a hockey player, she knows that she won't find the kind of relationship she is looking for with one of them. Her step-brother, Buck, has just been traded to a new team. When Violet goes to show her support at one of his games, the last thing she expected was to have her panties melt on the spot by no other than the team captain. Mr. Alex Waters has a reputation with the ladies. She's familiar with all his seduction techniques, but how can she resist a man who just scored a hat-trick with her body in their first meeting?

Panty-melting smile ... He shoots, he scores!
Lips that do wicked things ... He shoots, he scores!
Super Magic Stick that will make your toes curl ... He shoots, he scores!

Violet knows that this is only a one-night stand, but when Alex comes around showering her with gifts, emails and heart-melting texts she simply can't resists him. Will Alex's reputation with the ladies get him stuck into the penalty box or will he be able to score and win Violet's heart?

I absolutely loved Violet and Alex!!!! They were amazing characters to follow. You will fall in love with them!!! I did! From the moment I met Violet I wanted to become her friend. I know she's a fictional character, but I love her to pieces!! She's such a fun, loving person to be around. She has no filter when it comes to saying what she thinks! LOL!!! Her mouth has gotten her in plenty of trouble! Teehee!

Don't even get me started on Mr. Magic Monster Stick ... Oh.my.God *Swoon* He definitely gets a star and a top spot in my Masters of Swoon Club. He was so sweet with Violet. He knew the way she felt about hockey players and he made it his mission to show her that his feelings for her were sincere. He has never felt this way. He is completely and irrevocably in love with Violet. Her personality is what made him fall hard and fast. She's like a breath of fresh air in ''Puck bunny'' world. There were a few moments in the book where I wish that Violet would have taken that Magic Monster Stick and slapped some sense into Alex.  <---- I'm sorry I had to go there ... lol!!! He made some bad decisions, but he was persistent. That's what I loved about him. He would do anything to have his girl back!

Violet and Alex's chemistry was wickedly hot! Prepare your fan or some ice for cool down time ... You are going to need it! This book was extra steamy, but it was funny as well. The banter between these while they are doing some sexy overtime is HILARIOUS!!! When the Magic Monter Stick visits Beaver Town it's a guaranteed panty-melting journey with a few laughs on the side ;)

The supporting characters in this book were AMAZING!! They all played an important role in this story and I enjoyed it that much more because of them. I highly recommend Pucked. It left me with a big smile on my face and I was cheering Olé, Olé, Olé, Olééééé for Violet and Alex's HEA! This is one hockey romance you don't want to miss!

My Rating:

I give Pucked, by Helena Hunting, 4.5 steamy, exciting, swoony, hilarious, get-ready-to-be-pucked stars!

  2. Interesting. I love sports related romance. Most of the time the playboy image is true but he decides he only wants this girl. Sounds like in this one he may not really be such a playboy. A gift giving considerate kinda playboy? Might like that kind. Great reviews.
