Summary

The time of the Aesir gods is over. Now they live amongst the humans in their bustling modern cities. Their brutal dominion over the gods and humans may have ended, but their actions have not been forgotten.

Korvain is feared like no other. His ruthlessness and cold heart are legendary, but when he is given the task of killing one of the most fabled goddesses of all time, he is left with an undeniable desire to make her his own. Failure in his task means only one thing: death. Will he follow his orders, or will he follow his heart?

Bryn’s whole world crumbled when she left Odin’s service to protect the other Valkyries. Now living with the humans, she is the only thing standing between them and total destruction. But her beliefs are about to be shaken to the core when she meets Korvain—a volatile, completely irresistible Mare who threatens to take away more than just her innocence.

Aint no party like an Aesir party cause an Aesir party don’t stop!

This was such a great read! At first I was a little overwhelmed with all of the characters introduced but as the story progressed it was a piece of cake keeping up with everyone. The story followed key characters and intermingled the secondary characters nicely. Being a huge Mythology fan this was a great fit for me! Urban Fantasy anyone? Yep I’m a fan right here! The main characters were Norse Gods Odin, Loki, Frigg, Odin’s Valkeries, one super yummy Dark Elf, Shadow Walkers and those are just the main characters! Dark Deceit was the perfect pull you out of a funk read! This story has it all! Love, Romance, Passion, Betrayal, Deception, Redemption, Unbreakable Bonds, Centuries and Centuries of rich history between these band of characters. Who can ask for more? I fell in love with Bryn right away and the love just grew. Loyal to a fault this girl seriously kicks butt!! Korvain the super sexy dark elf I mentioned earlier? Yea, that’s him…Sigh! I can’t wait to continue this series because as it stands the first was a total knock out!

D-arrion, being a guild master is a huge pleasure especially when he finally has the tools to destroy the All Father.
A-ssignment, Korvain is much closer to his freedom all he has to do is get rid of the people who persecuted his kind to extinction.
R-isk, meeting and possibly becoming close to his mark is a terrible idea. However, the results could prove more beneficial than any other decision ever made.
K-indred, living with his best mate could be a bad decision but neither involved would know the drastic results.

D-epth, Loki’s hate has been building for a millennia the drive to have his vengeance is all consuming.
E-ncounter, knowing her options are limited Bryn will do what it takes and face whomever to keep her sisters safe.
C-ruel, the deaths, the pain, and the horrific actions of those those destroying Bryn’s loved ones will soon come to a stop.
E-verlasting, the love and connection Bryn has with her girls is unmatched. No one and nothing would ever keep her from protecting them.
I-ntriguing, Bryn never knew she would fall in love. Time and loyalty has never paid off for her but something about Korvain will push her to believe in him.
T-rust, love is the most powerful emotion of all time. What Bryn and Korvain share is undeniable. Lives change and these two prove why they are so perfect for each other.

That ending was chalk full of everything!! Gah I can’t wait to continue this series! It has skyrocketed to my favorites fo sho. There are some things I would like to see happen but I’m not sure if they are going to. As a reader we want all characters to be accountable but even though thats the case I have a feeling some of the major wrong doers are going to get away with murder. Ps thats not a spoiler its just what I think will happen. From the first page all the way through the end Dawes will take you on a rollercoaster of thrills with this one. A definite hit that I highly recommend!

My Rating

4.5 Couldn’t put it dow, OMG Aesir Gods are Sexy, Not as Sexy as Korvain, Holy Cow Bryn is a Bad Queen Bee, There is some splaying to do! Passionate, intense, edge of your seat, raw, lust, revenge, and love filled stars!!

About the Author

Born in South Africa and raised in Sydney, Lauren Dawes is an urban fantasy/paranormal romance writer and the author of the Dark Series.

In 2009, she quit her full-time job teaching English as a Second Language to finally begin writing “that book”, letting her over-active imagination pour out onto the digital pages, much to everyone’s horror. The catch phrase “I didn’t know you had such a dark imagination” only fueled her to write more, where her love for Norse mythology and gods finally got the spotlight.

She currently lives with her husband and daughter in whatever city they happen to be posted to, and her cat, Oscar, who has inspired more than one character quirk or scene in her books.
